Livro da Sabedoria 3

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Mas as almas dos justos estão na mão de Deus, e nenhum tormento os tocará.	1 But the souls of the upright are in the hands of God, and no torment can touch them.
2 Aparentemente estão mortos aos olhos dos insensatos: seu desenlace é julgado como uma desgraça.	2 To the unenlightened, they appeared to die, their departure was regarded as disaster,
3 E sua morte como uma destruição, quando na verdade estão na paz!	3 their leaving us like annihilation; but they are at peace.
4 Se aos olhos dos homens suportaram uma correção, a esperança deles era portadora de imortalidade, 5. e por terem sofrido um pouco, receberão grandes bens, porque Deus, que os provou, achou-os dignos de si.	4 If, as it seemed to us, they suffered punishment, their hope was rich with immortality;
	5 slight was their correction, great wil their blessings be. God was putting them to the test and has provedthem worthy to be with him;
6 Ele os provou como ouro na fornalha, e os acolheu como holocausto.	6 he has tested them like gold in a furnace, and accepted them as a perfect burnt offering.
7 No dia de sua visita, eles se reanimarão, e correrão como centelhas na palha.	7 At their time of visitation, they wil shine out; as sparks run through the stubble, so will they.
8 Eles julgarão as nações e dominarão os povos, e o Senhor reinará sobre eles para sempre.	8 They wil judge nations, rule over peoples, and the Lord wil be their king for ever.
9 Os que põem sua confiança nele compreenderão a verdade, e os que são fiéis habitarão com ele no amor: porque seus eleitos são dignos de favor e misericórdia.	9 Those who trust in him wil understand the truth, those who are faithful wil live with him in love; forgrace and mercy await his holy ones, and he intervenes on behalf of his chosen.
10 Mas os ímpios terão o castigo que merecem seus pensamentos, uma vez que desprezaram o justo e se separaram do Senhor: e desgraçado é aquele que rejeita a sabedoria e a disciplina!	10 But the godless wil be duly punished for their reasoning, for having neglected the upright and desertedthe Lord.
11 A esperança deles é vã, seus sofrimentos sem proveito, e as obras deles inúteis.	11 Yes, wretched are they who scorn wisdom and discipline: their hope is void, their toil unavailing, theirachievements unprofitable;
12 Suas mulheres são insensatas e seus filhos malvados; a raça deles é maldita.	12 their wives are reckless, their children depraved, their descendants accursed.
13 Feliz a mulher estéril, mas pura de toda a mancha, a que não manchou seu tálamo: ela carregará seu fruto no dia da retribuição das almas.	13 Blessed the sterile woman if she be blameless, and has not known an unlawful bed, for she wil havefruit at the visitation of souls.
14 Feliz o eunuco cuja mão não cometeu o mal, que não concebeu iniqüidade contra o Senhor, porque ele receberá pela sua fidelidade uma graça de escol, e no templo do Senhor uma parte muito honrosa,	14 Blessed, too, the eunuch whose hand commits no crime, and who harbours no resentment against theLord: a special favour will be granted to him for his loyalty, a most desirable portion in the temple of the Lord.
15 porque é esplêndido o fruto de bons trabalhos, e a raiz da sabedoria é sempre fértil.	15 For the fruit of honest labours is glorious, and the root of understanding does not decay.
16 Quanto aos filhos dos adúlteros, a nada chegarão, e a raça que descende do pecado será aniqüilada.	16 But the children of adulterers wil not reach maturity, the offspring of an unlawful bed wil disappear.
17 Ainda que vivam muito tempo, serão tidos por nada e, finalmente, sua velhice será sem honra.	17 Even if they live long, they wil count for nothing, their old age wil go unhonoured at the last;
18 Caso morram cedo, não terão esperança alguma, e no dia do julgamento não encontrarão nenhuma piedade:	18 while if they die early, they have neither hope nor comfort on the day of judgement,
19 porque é lamentável o fim de uma raça injusta.	19 for the end of a race of evil-doers is harsh.
