Livro dos Provérbios 9

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 A Sabedoria edificou sua casa, talhou sete colunas.	1 Wisdom has built herself a house, she has hewn her seven pil ars,
2 Matou seus animais, preparou seu vinho e dispôs a mesa.	2 she has slaughtered her beasts, drawn her wine, she has laid her table.
3 Enviou servas, para que anunciassem nos pontos mais elevados da cidade:	3 She has despatched her maidservants and proclaimed from the heights above the city,
4 Quem for simples apresente-se! Aos insensatos ela disse:	4 'Who is simple? Let him come this way.' To the fool she says,
5 Vinde comer o meu pão e beber o vinho que preparei.	5 'Come and eat my bread, drink the wine which I have drawn!
6 Deixai a insensatez e vivereis; andai direito no caminho da inteligência!	6 Leave foolishness behind and you wil live, go forwards in the ways of perception.'
7 Quem censura um mofador, atrai sobre si a zombaria; o que repreende o ímpio, arrisca-se a uma afronta.	7 Reprove a mocker and you attract contempt, rebuke the wicked and you attract dishonour.
8 Não repreendas o mofador, pois ele te odiará. Repreende o sábio e ele te amará.	8 Do not rebuke the mocker, he wil hate you. Rebuke the wise and he wil love you for it.
9 Dá ao sábio: tornar-se-á ele mais sábio ainda, ensina ao justo e seu saber aumentará.	9 Be open with the wise, he grows wiser stil , teach the upright, he wil gain yet more.
10 O temor do Senhor é o princípio da Sabedoria, e o conhecimento do Santo é a inteligência,	10 The first principle of wisdom is the fear of Yahweh, What God's holy ones know -- this isunderstanding.
11 porque por mim se multiplicarão teus dias e ser-te-ão acrescentados anos de vida.	11 For by me your days wil be multiplied, and your years of life increased.
12 Se tu és sábio, é para teu bem que o és, mas se tu és um mofador, só tu sofrerás as conseqüências.	12 Are you wise? You are wise to your own good. A mocker? The burden is yours alone.
13 A senhora Loucura é irrequieta, uma tola que não sabe nada.	13 A silly woman acts on impulse, is foolish and knows nothing.
14 Ela se assenta à porta de sua casa, numa cadeira, nos pontos mais altos da cidade,	14 She sits at the door of her house, on a throne high up in the city,
15 para convidar os viandantes que seguem direito seu caminho.	15 cal ing to the passers-by, who are walking straight past on their way,
16 Quem for simples venha para cá! Aos insensatos, ela diz:	16 'Who is simple? Turn aside, come over here.' To the fool she says,
17 As águas furtivas são mais doces e o pão tomado às escondidas é mais delicioso.	17 'Stolen waters are sweet, and bread tastes better when eaten in secret.'
18 Ignora ele que ali há sombras e que os convidados {da senhora Loucura} jazem nas profundezas da região dos mortos.	18 But the fool does not know that this is where the Shades are and that her guests are already in thevales of Sheol.
