Acts of the Apostles 1

CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINSAGRADA BIBLIA
Certainly, O Theophilus, I composed the first discourse about everything that Jesus began to do and to teach,1 Em minha primeira narração, ó Teófilo, contei toda a seqüência das ações e dos ensinamentos de Jesus,
instructing the Apostles, whom he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, even until the day on which he was taken up.2 desde o princípio até o dia em que, depois de ter dado pelo Espírito Santo suas instruções aos apóstolos que escolhera, foi arrebatado {ao céu}.
He also presented himself alive to them, after his Passion, appearing to them throughout forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God with many elucidations.3 E a eles se manifestou vivo depois de sua Paixão, com muitas provas, aparecendo-lhes durante quarenta dias e falando das coisas do Reino de Deus.
And dining with them, he instructed them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but that they should wait for the Promise of the Father, “about which you have heard,” he said, “from my own mouth.4 E comendo com eles, ordenou-lhes que não se afastassem de Jerusalém, mas que esperassem o cumprimento da promessa de seu Pai, que ouvistes, disse ele, da minha boca;
For John, indeed, baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit, not many days from now.”5 porque João batizou na água, mas vós sereis batizados no Espírito Santo daqui há poucos dias.
Therefore, those who had assembled together questioned him, saying, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom of Israel?”6 Assim reunidos, eles o interrogavam: Senhor, é porventura agora que ides instaurar o reino de Israel?
But he said to them: “It is not yours to know the times or the moments, which the Father has set by his own authority.7 Respondeu-lhes ele: Não vos pertence a vós saber os tempos nem os momentos que o Pai fixou em seu poder,
But you shall receive the power of the Holy Spirit, passing over you, and you shall be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.”8 mas descerá sobre vós o Espírito Santo e vos dará força; e sereis minhas testemunhas em Jerusalém, em toda a Judéia e Samaria e até os confins do mundo.
And when he had said these things, while they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.9 Dizendo isso elevou-se da {terra} à vista deles e uma nuvem o ocultou aos seus olhos..
And while they were watching him going up to heaven, behold, two men stood near them in white vestments.10 Enquanto o acompanhavam com seus olhares, vendo-o afastar-se para o céu, eis que lhes apareceram dois homens vestidos de branco, que lhes disseram:
And they said: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, shall return in just the same way that you have seen him going up to heaven.”11 Homens da Galiléia, por que ficais aí a olhar para o céu? Esse Jesus que acaba de vos ser arrebatado para o céu voltará do mesmo modo que o vistes subir para o céu.
Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain, which is called Olivet, which is next to Jerusalem, within a Sabbath day’s journey.12 Voltaram eles então para Jerusalém do monte chamado das Oliveiras, que fica perto de Jerusalém, distante uma jornada de sábado.
And when they had entered into the cenacle, they ascended to the place where Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Jude of James, were staying.13 Tendo entrado no cenáculo, subiram ao quarto de cima, onde costumavam permanecer. Eram eles: Pedro e João, Tiago, André, Filipe, Tomé, Bartolomeu, Mateus, Tiago, filho de Alfeu, Simão, o Zelador, e Judas, irmão de Tiago.
All these were persevering with one accord in prayer with the women, and with Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.14 Todos eles perseveravam unanimemente na oração, juntamente com as mulheres, entre elas Maria, mãe de Jesus, e os irmãos dele.
In those days, Peter, rising up in the midst of the brothers, said (now the crowd of men altogether was about one hundred and twenty):15 Num daqueles dias, levantou-se Pedro no meio de seus irmãos, na assembléia reunida que constava de umas cento e vinte pessoas, e disse:
“Noble brothers, the Scripture must be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit predicted by the mouth of David about Judas, who was the leader of those who apprehended Jesus.16 Irmãos, convinha que se cumprisse o que o Espírito Santo predisse na escritura pela boca de Davi, acerca de Judas, que foi o guia daqueles que prenderam Jesus.
He had been numbered among us, and he was chosen by lot for this ministry.17 Ele era um dos nossos e teve parte no nosso ministério.
And this man certainly possessed an estate from the wages of iniquity, and so, having been hanged, he burst open in the middle and all his internal organs poured out.18 Este homem adquirira um campo com o salário de seu crime. Depois, tombando para a frente, arrebentou-se pelo meio, e todas as suas entranhas se derramaram.
And this became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that this field was called in their language, Akeldama, that is, ‘Field of Blood.’19 {Tornou-se este fato conhecido dos habitantes de Jerusalém, de modo que aquele campo foi chamado na língua deles Hacéldama, isto é, Campo de Sangue.}
For it has been written in the book of Psalms: ‘Let their dwelling place be desolate and may there be no one who dwells within it,’ and ‘Let another take his episcopate.’20 Pois está escrito no livro dos Salmos: Fique deserta a sua habitação, e não haja quem nela habite; e ainda mais: Que outro receba o seu cargo {Sl 68,26; 108,8}.
Therefore, it is necessary that, out of these men who have been assembling with us throughout the entire time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,21 Convém que destes homens que têm estado em nossa companhia todo o tempo em que o Senhor Jesus viveu entre nós,
beginning from the baptism of John, until the day when he was taken up from us, one of these be made a witness with us of his Resurrection.”22 a começar do batismo de João até o dia em que do nosso meio foi arrebatado, um deles se torne conosco testemunha de sua Ressurreição.
And they appointed two: Joseph, who was called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.23 Propuseram dois: José, chamado Barsabás, que tinha por sobrenome Justo, e Matias.
And praying, they said: “May you, O Lord, who knows the heart of everyone, reveal which one of these two you have chosen,24 E oraram nestes termos: Ó Senhor, que conheces os corações de todos, mostra-nos qual destes dois escolheste
to take a place in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas prevaricated, so that he might go to his own place.”25 para tomar neste ministério e apostolado o lugar de Judas que se transviou, para ir para o seu próprio lugar.
And they cast lots concerning them, and the lot fell upon Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven Apostles.26 Deitaram sorte e caiu a sorte em Matias, que foi incorporado aos onze apóstolos.
