Matthew 6

1 “Pay attention, lest you perform your justice before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you shall not have a reward with your Father, who is in heaven.	1 "Gardez-vous de pratiquer votre justice devant les hommes, pour vous faire remarquer d'eux;sinon, vous n'aurez pas de récompense auprès de votre Père qui est dans les cieux.
2 Therefore, when you give alms, do not choose to sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the towns, so that they may be honored by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.	2 Quand donc tu fais l'aumône, ne va pas le claironner devant toi; ainsi font les hypocrites, dans lessynagogues et les rues, afin d'être glorifiés par les hommes; en vérité je vous le dis, ils tiennent déjà leurrécompense.
3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,	3 Pour toi, quand tu fais l'aumône, que ta main gauche ignore ce que fait ta main droite,
4 so that your almsgiving may be in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.	4 afin que ton aumône soit secrète; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.
5 And when you pray, you should not be like the hypocrites, who love standing in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets to pray, so that they may be seen by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.	5 "Et quand vous priez, ne soyez pas comme les hypocrites: ils aiment, pour faire leurs prières, à secamper dans les synagogues et les carrefours, afin qu'on les voie. En vérité je vous le dis, ils tiennent déjà leurrécompense.
6 But you, when you pray, enter into your room, and having shut the door, pray to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.	6 Pour toi, quand tu pries, retire-toi dans ta chambre, ferme sur toi la porte, et prie ton Père qui est là,dans le secret; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.
7 And when praying, do not choose many words, as the pagans do. For they think that by their excess of words they might be heeded.	7 "Dans vos prières, ne rabâchez pas comme les païens: ils s'imaginent qu'en parlant beaucoup ils seferont mieux écouter.
8 Therefore, do not choose to imitate them. For your Father knows what your needs may be, even before you ask him.	8 N'allez pas faire comme eux; car votre Père sait bien ce qu'il vous faut, avant que vous le luidemandiez.
9 Therefore, you shall pray in this way: Our Father, who is in heaven: May your name be kept holy.	9 "Vous donc, priez ainsi: Notre Père qui es dans les cieux, que ton Nom soit sanctifié,
10 May your kingdom come. May your will be done, as in heaven, so also on earth.	10 que ton Règne vienne, que ta Volonté soit faite sur la terre comme au ciel.
11 Give us this day our life-sustaining bread.	11 Donne-nous aujourd'hui notre pain quotidien.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.	12 Remets-nous nos dettes comme nous-mêmes avons remis à nos débiteurs.
13 And lead us not into temptation. But free us from evil. Amen.	13 Et ne nous soumets pas à la tentation; mais délivre-nous du Mauvais.
14 For if you will forgive men their sins, your heavenly Father also will forgive you your offenses.	14 "Oui, si vous remettez aux hommes leurs manquements, votre Père céleste vous remettra aussi;
15 But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your sins.	15 mais si vous ne remettez pas aux hommes, votre Père non plus ne vous remettra pas vosmanquements.
16 And when you fast, do not choose to become gloomy, like the hypocrites. For they alter their faces, so that their fasting may be apparent to men. Amen I say to you, that they have received their reward.	16 "Quand vous jeûnez, ne vous donnez pas un air sombre comme font les hypocrites: ils prennentune mine défaite, pour que les hommes voient bien qu'ils jeûnent. En vérité je vous le dis, ils tiennent déjà leurrécompense.
17 But as for you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,	17 Pour toi, quand tu jeûnes, parfume ta tête et lave ton visage,
18 so that your fasting will not be apparent to men, but to your Father, who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.	18 pour que ton jeûne soit connu, non des hommes, mais de ton Père qui est là, dans le secret; et tonPère, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.
19 Do not choose to store up for yourselves treasures on earth: where rust and moth consume, and where thieves break in and steal.	19 "Ne vous amassez point de trésors sur la terre, où la mite et le ver consument, où les voleurspercent et cambriolent.
20 Instead, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven: where neither rust nor moth consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal.	20 Mais amassez-vous des trésors dans le ciel: là, point de mite ni de ver qui consument, point devoleurs qui perforent et cambriolent.
21 For where your treasure is, there also is your heart.	21 Car où est ton trésor, là sera aussi ton coeur.
22 The lamp of your body is your eye. If your eye is wholesome, your entire body will be filled with light.	22 "La lampe du corps, c'est l'oeil. Si donc ton oeil est sain, ton corps tout entier sera lumineux.
23 But if your eye has been corrupted, your entire body will be darkened. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great will that darkness be!	23 Mais si ton oeil est malade, ton corps tout entier sera ténébreux. Si donc la lumière qui est en toiest ténèbres, quelles ténèbres!
24 No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will have hatred for the one, and love the other, or he will persevere with the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.	24 "Nul ne peut servir deux maîtres: ou il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre, ou il s'attachera à l'un etméprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et l'Argent.
25 And so I say to you, do not be anxious about your life, as to what you will eat, nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?	25 "Voilà pourquoi je vous dis: Ne vous inquiétez pas pour votre vie de ce que vous mangerez, nipour votre corps de quoi vous le vêtirez. La vie n'est-elle pas plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que levêtement?
26 Consider the birds of the air, how they neither sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much greater value than they are?	26 Regardez les oiseaux du ciel: ils ne sèment ni ne moissonnent ni ne recueillent en des greniers, etvotre Père céleste les nourrit! Ne valez-vous pas plus qu'eux?
27 And which of you, by thinking, is able to add one cubit to his stature?	27 Qui d'entre vous d'ailleurs peut, en s'en inquiétant, ajouter une seule coudée à la longueur de savie?
28 And as for clothing, why are you anxious? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither work nor weave.	28 Et du vêtement, pourquoi vous inquiéter? Observez les lis des champs, comme ils poussent: ils nepeinent ni ne filent.
29 But I say to you, that not even Solomon, in all his glory, was arrayed like one of these.	29 Or je vous dis que Salomon lui-même, dans toute sa gloire, n'a pas été vêtu comme l'un d'eux.
30 So if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and cast into the oven tomorrow, how much more will he care for you, O little in faith?	30 Que si Dieu habille de la sorte l'herbe des champs, qui est aujourd'hui et demain sera jetée aufour, ne fera-t-il pas bien plus pour vous, gens de peu de foi!
31 Therefore, do not choose to be anxious, saying: ‘What shall we eat, and what shall we drink, and with what shall we be clothed?’	31 Ne vous inquiétez donc pas en disant: Qu'allons-nous manger? Qu'allons-nous boire? De quoiallons-nous nous vêtir?
32 For the Gentiles seek all these things. Yet your Father knows that you need all these things.	32 Ce sont là toutes choses dont les païens sont en quête. Or votre Père céleste sait que vous avezbesoin de tout cela.
33 Therefore, seek first the kingdom of God and his justice, and all these things shall be added to you as well.	33 Cherchez d'abord son Royaume et sa justice, et tout cela vous sera donné par surcroît.
34 Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow; for the future day will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its evil.”	34 Ne vous inquiétez donc pas du lendemain: demain s'inquiétera de lui-même. A chaque jour suffitsa peine.
