1 And the people set out from Hazeroth, and they pitched their tents in the desert of Paran.	1 Il Signore disse a Mosè:
2 And there, the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:	2 "Manda uomini a esplorare la terra di Canaan, che io voglio dare ai figli d'Israele; ne invierete uno per ogni tribù dei loro padri, tutti dei loro capi".
3 “Send men, who may examine the land of Canaan, which I will give to the sons of Israel, one from the rulers of each tribe.”	3 Mosè li inviò dal deserto di Paran, secondo le parole del Signore: erano tutti capi dei figli d'Israele.
4 Moses did what the Lord had commanded, sending, from the desert of Paran, leading men, whose names are these:	4 Questi sono i loro nomi: per la tribù di Ruben Sammua, figlio di Zaccur;
5 from the tribe of Ruben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;	5 per la tribù di Simeone Safat, figlio di Cori;
6 from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;	6 per la tribù di Giuda Caleb, figlio di Iefunne;
7 from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;	7 per la tribù di Issacar Igheal, figlio di Giuseppe;
8 from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;	8 per la tribù di Efraim Osea, figlio di Nun;
9 from the tribe of Ephraim, Hosea the son of Nun;	9 per la tribù di Beniamino Palti, figlio di Rafu;
10 from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;	10 per la tribù di Zàbulon Gaddiel, figlio di Sodi;
11 from the tribe of Zebulon, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;	11 per la tribù di Giuseppe, cioè per la tribù di Manasse, Gaddi, figlio di Susi;
12 from the tribe of Joseph, of the scepter of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;	12 per la tribù di Dan Ammiel, figlio di Ghemalli;
13 from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;	13 per la tribù di Aser Setur, figlio di Michele;
14 from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;	14 per la tribù di Neftali Nacbi, figlio di Vofsi;
15 from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;	15 per la tribù di Gad Gheuel, figlio di Machi.
16 from the tribe of Gad, Guel the son of Machi.	16 Questi sono i nomi degli uomini che Mosè inviò a esplorare la terra. Mosè diede ad Osea, figlio di Nun, il nome di Giosuè.
17 These are the names of the men, whom Moses sent to examine the land. And he called Hosea, the son of Nun, Joshua.	17 Mosè li inviò ad esplorare la terra di Canaan e disse loro: "Salite per il Negheb, e salite sulla montagna,
18 And so, Moses sent them to examine the land of Canaan, and he said to them: “Ascend by the south side. And when you arrive at the mountains,	18 per vedere la terra com'è e il popolo che vi abita, se forte o debole, poco o molto;
19 consider the land, as to what kind it may be, and the people, who are its inhabitants, whether they may be strong or weak, whether they may be few in number or many,	19 com'è la terra che abita, se buona o cattiva, come sono le città in cui abita, se siano accampamenti o fortificazioni;
20 and the land itself, whether it is good or bad, what kind of cities, walled or without walls,	20 com'è la terra grassa o magra, se ci sono alberi o no. Siate forti e portate dei frutti della terra". Quei giorni erano i giorni delle prime uve.
21 the soil, rich or barren, forested or without trees. Be strong, and bring us some of the fruits of the land.” Now it was the time when the first ripe grapes were ready to be eaten.	21 Quelli salirono ad esplorare la terra dal deserto del Zin fino a Recob, sulla via di Camat.
22 And when they had ascended, they explored the land from the desert of Sin, all the way to Rehob, as one enters into Hamath.	22 Salirono nel Negheb e arrivarono fino ad Ebron: là c'era Achiman, Sesai e Talmai, figli di Anak. Ebron era stata costruita sette anni prima di Tanis in Egitto.
23 And they ascended by the south side. And they arrived at Hebron, where there were Ahiman and Shishai and Talmai, the sons of Anak. For Hebron was founded seven years before Tanis, the city of Egypt.	23 Poi vennero fino alla valle di Escol e vi tagliarono un tralcio con un grappolo d'uva, che portarono con una stanga in due, con melagrane e fichi.
24 And continuing on as far as the Torrent of the Cluster of Grapes, they cut off a vine with its grapes, which two men carried on a board. Likewise, they took from the pomegranates and the figs of that place,	24 Quel luogo si chiamò torrente Escol, a causa del grappolo che i figli d'Israele vi avevano tagliato.
25 which was called Nehel Eshcol, that is, the Torrent of the Cluster of Grapes, because the sons of Israel had carried a cluster of grapes from there.	25 Tornarono dall'esplorazione della terra alla fine di quaranta giorni.
26 And those exploring the land returned after forty days, having circulated through the entire region.	26 Si presentarono a Mosè, Aronne e a tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele, nel deserto di Paran, a Kades: riferirono l'accaduto a loro e a tutta la comunità e mostrarono il frutto della terra.
27 And they went to Moses and Aaron, and to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel in the desert of Paran, which is in Kadesh. And speaking to them, and to the entire multitude, they showed them the fruits of the land.	27 Raccontarono: "Siamo arrivati nella terra dove ci avevi inviato ed effettivamente vi scorre latte e miele; questi sono i frutti.
28 And they explained, saying: “We went into the land, to which you sent us, which, it is true, flows with milk and honey, as one can know by these fruits.	28 Solo che il popolo che abita nella terra è forte e le città sono fortezze grandissime: vi vedemmo anche gli Anakiti.
29 But it has very strong occupants, and the cities are great and also walled. We saw the race of Anak there.	29 Gli Amaleciti abitano nella terra del Negheb, gli Hittiti, i Gebusei e gli Amorrei abitano sulla montagna, i Cananei abitano lungo il mare e lungo le rive del Giordano".
30 Amalek lives in the south. The Hethite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite live in the mountains. And truly, the Canaanite stays near the sea and around the streams of the Jordan.”	30 Solo Caleb fece tacere il popolo che mormorava contro Mosè e disse: "Saliamo e conquistiamola, perché lo possiamo".
31 During these events, Caleb, to restrain the murmuring of the people who rose up against Moses, said, “Let us ascend and possess the land, for we will be able to obtain it.”	31 Ma gli uomini che erano saliti con lui dissero: "Non possiamo salire contro quel popolo, perché è più forte di noi".
32 Yet truly, the others, who had been with him, were saying, “By no means are we able to ascend to this people, because they are stronger than we are.”	32 E screditarono davanti agl'Israeliti la terra che avevano esplorato dicendo: "La terra dove siamo passati per esplorarla è una terra che divora chi la abita, e tutto il popolo che vi abbiamo visto è di uomini di taglia.
33 And before the sons of Israel they disparaged the land, which they had inspected, saying: “The land, which we viewed, devours its inhabitants. The people, upon whom we gazed, were of lofty stature.	33 Là abbiamo visto i giganti, figli di Anak, della razza dei giganti, e ai nostri occhi eravamo come delle cavallette, così come lo eravamo ai loro occhi".
34 There, we saw some monsters among the sons of Anak, of the race of giants; by comparison with them, we seemed like locusts.”
