Jeremiah 26

1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, this word came from the Lord, saying:	1 Al comienzo del reinado de Joaquím, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, llegó esta palabra a Jeremías, de parte del Señor :
2 “Thus says the Lord: Stand in the atrium of the house of the Lord, and speak to all the cities of Judah, from which they come to adore in the house of the Lord, all the words that I have commanded you to speak to them. Do not choose to subtract any word.	2 Así habla el Señor: Párate en el atrio de la Casa del Señor y di a toda la gente de las ciudades de Judá que vienen a postrarse en la Casa del Señor todas las palabras que yo te mandé decirles, sin omitir ni una sola.
3 So may they hear and be converted, each one from his evil way. And then I may repent of the evil that I plan to do to them because of the wickedness of their pursuits.	3 Tal vez escuchen y se conviertan de su mal camino; entonces yo me arrepentiré del mal que pienso hacerles a causa de la maldad de sus acciones.
4 And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord: If you will not listen to me, so that you walk in my law, which I have given to you,	4 Tú les dirás: Así habla el Señor: Si ustedes no me escuchan ni caminan según la Ley que yo les propuse;
5 so that you listen to the words of my servants, the prophets, whom I have sent to you, who arise while it is still night, and though they give guidance, you do not listen,	5 si no escuchan las palabras de mis servidores los profetas, que yo les envío incansablemente y a quienes ustedes no han escuchado,
6 then I will make this house like Shiloh, and I will make this city into a curse for all the nations of the earth.”	6 entonces yo trataré a esta Casa como traté a Silo y haré de esta ciudad una maldición para todas las naciones de la tierra.
7 And the priests, and the prophets, and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord.	7 Los sacerdotes, los profetas y todo el pueblo oyeron a Jeremías mientras él pronunciaba estas palabras en la Casa del Señor.
8 And when Jeremiah had completed speaking all that the Lord had instructed him to speak to all the people, then the priests, and the prophets, and all the people apprehended him, saying: “You shall be put to death.”	8 Y apenas Jeremías terminó de decir todo lo que el Señor le había ordenado decir al pueblo, los sacerdotes y los profetas se le echaron encima, diciendo: «¡Vas a morir!
9 “Why has he prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying: ‘Like Shiloh, so shall this house be,’ and, ‘This city shall be made desolate, even without an inhabitant?’ ” And all the people were gathered together against Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.	9 Porque has profetizado en nombre del Señor, diciendo: Esta Casa será como Silo, y esta ciudad será arrasada y quedará deshabitada». Entonces todo el pueblo se amontonó alrededor de Jeremías den la Casa del Señor.
10 And the leaders of Judah heard these words. And they ascended from the house of the king to the house of the Lord, and they sat at the entrance by the new gate of the house of the Lord.	10 Al enterarse de esto, los jefes de Judá subieron de la casa del rey a la Casa del Señor, y se sentaron para el juicio a la entrada de la puerta Nueva de la Casa del Señor.
11 And the priests and the prophets spoke to the leaders and to all the people, saying: “A judgment of death is for this man. For he has prophesied against this city, just as you have heard with your own ears.”	11 Los sacerdotes y los profetas dijeron a los jefes y a todo el pueblo: «Este hombre es reo de muerte, porque ha profetizado contra esta ciudad, como ustedes lo han escuchado con sus propios oídos».
12 And Jeremiah spoke to all the leaders and to the entire people, saying: “The Lord has sent me to prophesy, about this house and about this city, all the words that you have heard.	12 Pero Jeremías dijo a los jefes y a todo el pueblo: «El Señor es el que me envió a profetizar contra esta Casa y contra esta ciudad todas las palabras que ustedes han oído.
13 Now, therefore, make your ways and your intentions good, and heed the voice of the Lord your God. And then the Lord will repent of the evil that he has spoken against you.	13 Y ahora, enmienden su conducta y sus acciones, y escuchen la voz del Señor, su Dios, y el Señor se arrepentirá del mal con que los ha amenazado.
14 But as for me, behold, I am in your hands. Do to me what is good and right in your eyes.	14 En cuanto a mí, hagan conmigo lo que les parezca bueno y justo.
15 Yet truly, know and understand this: if you kill me, you will be bringing innocent blood against yourselves, and against this city and its inhabitants. For in truth, the Lord sent me to you, so as to speak all these words in your hearing.”	15 Pero sepan que si ustedes me hacen morir, arrojan sangre inocente sobre ustedes mismo, sobre esta ciudad y sobre sus habitantes. Porque verdaderamente el Señor me ha enviado a ustedes para decirles todas estas palabras».
16 And then the leaders and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets: “There is no judgment of death against this man. For he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”	16 Los jefes y todo el pueblo dijeron a los sacerdotes y a los profetas: «Este hombre no es reo de muerte, porque nos ha hablado en nombre del Señor, nuestro Dios».
17 Then some of the elders of the land rose up. And they spoke to the entire assembly of the people, saying:	17 Entonces se levantaron algunos hombres de entre los ancianos del país, y dijeron a toda la asamblea del pueblo:
18 “Micah from Moresheth was a prophet in the days of Hezekiah, the king of Judah, and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: Zion will be ploughed like a field. And Jerusalem will be a pile of stones. And the mountain of the house will be like the forests of high places.’	18 «Miqueas de Moréset profetizó en los días de Ezequías, rey de Judá, y dijo a todo el pueblo de Judá: Así habla el Señor de los ejércitos: Sión será un campo arado, Jerusalén, un montón de ruinas, y la montaña del Templo, una altura boscosa.
19 Did the king of Judah, Hezekiah, with all of Judah, condemn him to death? Did they not fear the Lord, and petition the face of the Lord? And so the Lord repented of the evil that he had spoken against them. Therefore, we are committing a great evil against our own souls.	19 ¿Acaso Ezequías, rey de Judá, y todo Judá lo hicieron morir? ¿No temió él al Señor y aplacó el rostro del Señor, de suerte que el Señor se arrepintió del mal con que los había amenazado? Nosotros, en cambio, estamos por hacernos un daño enorme a nosotros mismos».
20 Likewise, there was a man prophesying in the name of the Lord: Uriah, the son of Shemaiah, of Kiriath-jearim. And he prophesied against this city and against this land, in accord with all the words of Jeremiah.	20 Hubo además otro hombre que profetizaba en nombre del Señor: Urías, hijo de Semaías, de Quiriat Iearím. El profetizó contra esta ciudad y contra este país en los mismos términos que Jeremías.
21 And king Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and leaders, heard these words. And so the king sought to put him to death. And Uriah heard, and was afraid, and fled, and he entered into Egypt.	21 El rey Joaquím, todos sus guardias y los jefes oyeron sus palabras, y el rey intentó darle muerte. Al enterarse, Urías sintió temor y huyó a Egipto.
22 And king Jehoiakim sent men into Egypt: Elnathan, the son of Achbor, and the men who went with him into Egypt.	22 Pero el rey Joaquím envió a Egipto a Elnatán acompañado de algunos hombres.
23 And they led Uriah out of Egypt. And they brought him to king Jehoiakim, and he struck him down with the sword. And he cast his dead body among the graves of the common people.”	23 Ellos sacaron a Urías de Egipto y lo llevaron ante el rey Joaquím, que lo hizo matar con la espada y arrojó su cadáver a la fosa común.
24 But the hand of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, was with Jeremiah, so that he would not be delivered into the hands of the people, and so that they would not put him to death.	24 Sin embargo, Ajicam, hijo de Safán, protegió a Jeremías e impidió que fuera entregado en manos del pueblo para ser ejecutado.
