Jeremiah 26

1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, this word came from the Lord, saying:	1 Voici la parole qui vint de Yahvé au commencement du règne de Joïaqim fils de Josias, roi de Juda.
2 “Thus says the Lord: Stand in the atrium of the house of the Lord, and speak to all the cities of Judah, from which they come to adore in the house of the Lord, all the words that I have commanded you to speak to them. Do not choose to subtract any word.	2 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Tiens-toi dans la cour de la Maison de Yahvé, là tu prononceras toutes les paroles que je t’ai commandé de dire aux habitants des villes de Juda qui viennent pour adorer dans la Maison de Yahvé. Tu ne retrancheras pas un mot.
3 So may they hear and be converted, each one from his evil way. And then I may repent of the evil that I plan to do to them because of the wickedness of their pursuits.	3 Peut-être écouteront-ils et chacun d’eux renoncera à sa mauvaise conduite; alors je me repentirai du mal que j’ai décidé de leur faire à cause de leurs actions mauvaises.
4 And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord: If you will not listen to me, so that you walk in my law, which I have given to you,	4 Tu leur diras: Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Si vous ne m’écoutez pas, si vous ne marchez pas selon la Loi que j’ai placée devant vous,
5 so that you listen to the words of my servants, the prophets, whom I have sent to you, who arise while it is still night, and though they give guidance, you do not listen,	5 si vous n’écoutez pas les paroles de mes serviteurs les prophètes que je vous ai envoyés sans me lasser et que vous n’avez pas écoutés,
6 then I will make this house like Shiloh, and I will make this city into a curse for all the nations of the earth.”	6 alors je ferai de ce Temple ce que j’ai fait de Silo. Je ferai de cette ville une malédiction sous les yeux de toutes les nations de la terre.
7 And the priests, and the prophets, and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord.	7 Les prêtres, les prophètes et tout le peuple, entendirent ces paroles que Jérémie prononçait dans la Maison de Yahvé.
8 And when Jeremiah had completed speaking all that the Lord had instructed him to speak to all the people, then the priests, and the prophets, and all the people apprehended him, saying: “You shall be put to death.”	8 Jérémie avait juste terminé de dire tout ce que Yahvé lui avait commandé de dire au peuple, lorsque les prêtres et les prophètes l’arrêtèrent. Ils lui dirent: “Ce coup-ci tu vas mourir!
9 “Why has he prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying: ‘Like Shiloh, so shall this house be,’ and, ‘This city shall be made desolate, even without an inhabitant?’ ” And all the people were gathered together against Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.	9 Pourquoi as-tu dit de la part de Yahvé que ce Temple deviendrait comme Silo et que cette ville resterait en ruines et sans habitants?” Et il y eut un attroupement autour de Jérémie dans la Maison de Yahvé.
10 And the leaders of Judah heard these words. And they ascended from the house of the king to the house of the Lord, and they sat at the entrance by the new gate of the house of the Lord.	10 En apprenant cela, les chefs de Juda arrivèrent du palais royal à la Maison de Yahvé, et ils s’installèrent à l’entrée de la Porte Neuve de la Maison de Yahvé.
11 And the priests and the prophets spoke to the leaders and to all the people, saying: “A judgment of death is for this man. For he has prophesied against this city, just as you have heard with your own ears.”	11 Les prêtres et les prophètes dirent aux chefs et à tout le peuple: “Cet homme mérite la mort, car il a prophétisé contre cette ville, comme vous l’avez entendu vous-mêmes de vos oreilles!”
12 And Jeremiah spoke to all the leaders and to the entire people, saying: “The Lord has sent me to prophesy, about this house and about this city, all the words that you have heard.	12 Mais Jérémie dit au peuple: “C’est Yahvé qui m’a envoyé proclamer, contre ce Temple et cette ville, toutes les paroles que vous avez entendues.
13 Now, therefore, make your ways and your intentions good, and heed the voice of the Lord your God. And then the Lord will repent of the evil that he has spoken against you.	13 C’est le moment de redresser votre conduite et vos manières d’agir. Écoutez la voix de Yahvé votre Dieu, et Yahvé renoncera au mal qu’il a prononcé contre vous.
14 But as for me, behold, I am in your hands. Do to me what is good and right in your eyes.	14 Quant à moi, je suis entre vos mains, traitez-moi comme il vous semblera bon et juste.
15 Yet truly, know and understand this: if you kill me, you will be bringing innocent blood against yourselves, and against this city and its inhabitants. For in truth, the Lord sent me to you, so as to speak all these words in your hearing.”	15 Mais si vous me faites mourir, sachez bien que je suis innocent et que vous aurez à en répondre, vous, votre ville et ses habitants. Car c’est Yahvé qui m’a envoyé vers vous pour proclamer toutes ces paroles à vos oreilles.”
16 And then the leaders and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets: “There is no judgment of death against this man. For he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”	16 Alors les chefs et tout le peuple dirent aux prêtres et aux prophètes: “Cet homme ne mérite pas la mort, c’est au nom de Yahvé notre Dieu qu’il nous a parlé.”
17 Then some of the elders of the land rose up. And they spoke to the entire assembly of the people, saying:	17 Quelques anciens du pays se levèrent même pour dire à tous ceux qui s’étaient attroupés:
18 “Micah from Moresheth was a prophet in the days of Hezekiah, the king of Judah, and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: Zion will be ploughed like a field. And Jerusalem will be a pile of stones. And the mountain of the house will be like the forests of high places.’	18 “Quand Michée de Moréchèt prophétisait, au temps d’Ézékias roi de Juda, il a dit à tout le peuple de Juda: Voici une parole de Yahvé Sabaot: ‘Sion deviendra un champ à labourer, Jérusalem sera un monceau de ruines; la montagne du Temple ne sera plus qu’une colline à l’abandon.’
19 Did the king of Judah, Hezekiah, with all of Judah, condemn him to death? Did they not fear the Lord, and petition the face of the Lord? And so the Lord repented of the evil that he had spoken against them. Therefore, we are committing a great evil against our own souls.	19 “Mais Ézékias roi de Juda et le peuple de Juda ne l’ont pas fait mourir pour autant; au contraire ils ont eu la crainte de Yahvé et ils l’ont supplié. Et Yahvé a renoncé au mal qu’il avait prononcé contre eux. Comment pourrions-nous prendre la responsabilité d’un si grand crime?
20 Likewise, there was a man prophesying in the name of the Lord: Uriah, the son of Shemaiah, of Kiriath-jearim. And he prophesied against this city and against this land, in accord with all the words of Jeremiah.	20 “Un autre encore avait parlé au nom de Yahvé, c’était Ouriyas fils de Chémayas, qui était de Kiryat-Yéarim. Il avait prophétisé contre cette ville et contre ce pays, et il parlait comme Jérémie.
21 And king Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and leaders, heard these words. And so the king sought to put him to death. And Uriah heard, and was afraid, and fled, and he entered into Egypt.	21 Lorsque le roi Joïaqim, ses officiers et ses chefs entendirent ses paroles, ils cherchèrent à le faire mourir. En apprenant cela Ouriyas eut peur, il prit la fuite et arriva en Égypte.
22 And king Jehoiakim sent men into Egypt: Elnathan, the son of Achbor, and the men who went with him into Egypt.	22 Mais le roi Joïaqim envoya en Égypte Elnathan, fils d’Akbor, avec quelques hommes.
23 And they led Uriah out of Egypt. And they brought him to king Jehoiakim, and he struck him down with the sword. And he cast his dead body among the graves of the common people.”	23 Ils firent sortir Ouriyas d’Égypte et le ramenèrent au roi Joïaqim. Celui-ci ordonna de le frapper de l’épée et de jeter son cadavre à la fosse commune.
24 But the hand of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, was with Jeremiah, so that he would not be delivered into the hands of the people, and so that they would not put him to death.	24 Mais Jérémie fut protégé par Ahikam, fils de Chafan, qui empêcha de le livrer au peuple et de le mettre à mort.”
