Jeremiah 10

1 Listen to the word that the Lord has spoken concerning you, O house of Israel.	1 Udite la parola, che il Signore ha detta sopra di voi, o casa di Israele.
2 Thus says the Lord: “Do not choose to learn according to the ways of the Gentiles. And do not be willing to dread the signs of heaven, which the Gentiles fear.	2 Queste cose dice il Signore: Non andate a imparare i costumi delle nazioni; e non temete i segni celesti, de' quali hanno timore le nazioni:
3 For the laws of the people are empty. For the work of the hand of the craftsman has cut a tree from the forest with an axe.	3 Perocché le leggi de' popoli sono vane: conciossiachè l'artefice tronca colla scure una pianta nel bosco, e la lavora,
4 He has adorned it with silver and gold. He has put it together with nail and hammer, so that it will not fall apart.	4 La adorna d'oro, e d'argento, unendo il tutto per via di chiovi, e di martello, affinchè non si scompagini.
5 They have been fabricated in the likeness of a palm tree, and they will not speak. They must be carried to be moved, because they do not have the ability to walk. Therefore, do not be willing to fear them, for they can do neither evil nor good.”	5 Ella è fatta come una palma, e non parla: Ella si alza, e si porta, perchè non può dar un passo. Non temete adunque cose tali, che non posson fare né mal, né bene.
6 O Lord, there is nothing similar to you. You are great, and your name is great in strength.	6 Non è chi somigli te, o Signore: grande se' tu, e grande il nome tuo in possanza.
7 Who will not fear you, O King of the nations? For honor is yours. Among all the wise of the nations, and within all their kingdoms, there is nothing similar to you.	7 Chi non avrà timore di te, o Re delle genti? imperocché tua è la gloria: tra tutti i sapienti delle nazioni, e in tutti i loro regni niuno è simile a te.
8 Together, they will all be proven to be unwise and foolish. The doctrine of their vanity is made of wood.	8 Con questo si mostrerà, che ei sono stolti, e insensati: argomento della loro vanita è il legno.
9 Rolled silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz. It is the work of a craftsman, and of the hand of a coppersmith. Hyacinth and purple is their clothing. All these things are the work of artists.	9 Si porta da Tharsis l'argento ridotto in lamine, e l'oro di Ophaz: si mette in opera dall'artefice, dalla mano dell'argentiere: si veste (la statua) di giacinto, e di porpora. Tutto questo è lavoro d'artefici.
10 But the Lord is the true God. He is the living God and the everlasting King. Before his indignation, the earth will shake. And the Gentiles will not be able to withstand his threats.	10 Ma il Signore è il Dio vero; egli è il Dio vivo, e il Rege eterno: dall'ira di lui sarà scommossa la terra, e i popoli non reggeranno alle sue minacce.
11 “And so, you shall speak to them in this way: The gods that have not made heaven and earth, let them perish from the earth and from among those places which are under heaven.	11 Voi adunque direte loro così: Gli dei, che non hanno fatto il cielo, e la terra, periscano dalla faccia della terra, e dal numero delle cose, che sono sotto del cielo.
12 He made the earth by his power, he prepared the world in his wisdom, and he stretched out the heavens with his understanding.	12 Egli con sua possanza fece la terra, regola il mondo colla sua sapienza, e colla intelligenza sua distende i cieli.
13 At his voice, he grants a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he lifts up the clouds from the ends of the earth. He causes the lightning with the rain, and he leads forth the wind from his storehouses.	13 A una sua voce aduna nel cielo una gran massa di acque, solleva dalle estremità della terra le nuvole: scioglie i folgori in pioggia, e da' suoi tesori ne tragge il vento.
14 Every man has become a fool concerning knowledge; every artist has been confounded by his graven image. For what he has formed is false, and there is no spirit in these things.	14 Del proprio sapere diventò stolto ogni uomo; la statua stessa confonde ogni artefice: perchè cosa falsa è quella, che egli ha fatto, e spirito in lei non è.
15 These things are empty, and they are a work deserving of ridicule. In the time of their visitation, they will perish.	15 Elle son cose vane, e opere degne di riso: al tempo della loro visita, periranno.
16 Jacob’s portion is not like their portion. For his portion is from the One who formed all things. And Israel is the staff of his inheritance. The Lord of hosts is his name.	16 Non è come queste colui, che è la porzione di Giacobbe: imperocché egli è, che ha fatte tutte le cose, e Israele è la sua eredità: il suo nome egli è: Signor degli eserciti.
17 Gather your shame from the earth, you who are living under siege.”	17 Metti insieme da tutta la terra i tuoi obbrobri, o tu, che se' assediata:
18 For thus says the Lord: “Behold, in this turn, I will cast the inhabitants of the land far away. And I will afflict them no matter where they may be found.”	18 Perocché queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco che io questa volta getterò lontano gli abitatori di questa terra, e darò loro tribolazione tale, che li troverà.
19 Woe to me, concerning my destruction! My wound is very grievous. And yet I said: Clearly, this infirmity is mine, and I will carry it.	19 Me infelice nella mia afflizione! la mia piaga è atroce. Ma io ho detto: Questo male veramente è mio, e io dovrò portarlo.
20 My tent has been destroyed. All my cords have been broken. My sons have gone away from me; they did not remain. There is no one to stretch out my tent any more, nor to set up my curtains.	20 Il mio padiglione è atterrato: tutte le corde sono rotte: i miei figliuoli si sono partiti da me, ed ei più non sono: non v'ha più chi rizzi la mia tenda, e innalzi i miei padiglioni.
21 For the pastors have acted foolishly, and they have not sought the Lord. Because of this, they have not understood, and all their flock has been dispersed.	21 Imperocché i pastori si son di portati da stolti, e non han cercato il Signore: per questo non ebber saggezza, e il loro gregge è stato tutto disperso.
22 Behold, the sound of a voice approaches, a great commotion from the land of the north: so that he may make the cities of Judah into a wilderness and into a dwelling place for serpents.	22 Voce, che si fa sentire, e tumulto grande ecco che viene dalla parte di settentrione: per cangiare le città di Giuda in deserti, e in abitazione di dragoni.
23 I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not his own. Neither is it given to man to walk and to direct his own steps.	23 Io so, o Signore, che non è dell'uomo il seguir la sua strada, e non è dell'uomo il camminare, e il regolare i suoi andamenti.
24 Correct me, O Lord, yet truly, do so with judgment, and not in your fury. Otherwise, you will reduce me to nothing.	24 Castigami, o Signore, ma con misura, e non nel tuo furore, affinchè tu non mi ritorni nel nulla.
25 Pour out your indignation upon the nations that have not known you, and upon the provinces that have not invoked your name. For they have fed upon Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and they have utterly destroyed his honor.	25 Versa la tua indegnazione sopra le genti, che non ti conoscono, e sopra le provincie, che non invocano il nome tuo: perocché elle hanno mangiato Giacobbe, e lo han divorato, e l'han consunto, ed han dissipata la sua magnificenza.
