1 And so, the entire multitude of the sons of Israel, having set out from the desert of Sin in stages, according to the word of the Lord, made camp at Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink.	1 Toda la comunidad de los hijos de Israel se marchó del desierto de Sin, por etapas, según la orden del Señor, y acampó en Refidín, donde el pueblo no encontró agua que beber.
2 And arguing against Moses, they said, “Give us water, so that we may drink.” And Moses answered them: “Why argue against me? For what reason do you tempt the Lord?”	2 El pueblo se querelló contra Moisés y dijo: «Danos agua que beber». Él les respondió: «¿Por qué os querelláis contra mí?, ¿por qué tentáis al Señor?».
3 And so the people were thirsty in that place, due to the scarcity of water, and they murmured against Moses, saying: “Why did you cause us to go out of Egypt, so as to kill us and our children, as well as our cattle, with thirst?”	3 Pero el pueblo, sediento, murmuró contra Moisés, diciendo: «¿Por qué nos has sacado de Egipto para matarnos de sed a nosotros, a nuestros hijos y a nuestros ganados?».
4 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, saying: “What shall I do with this people? A little while more and they will stone me.”	4 Clamó Moisés al Señor y dijo: «¿Qué puedo hacer con este pueblo? Por poco me apedrean».
5 And the Lord said to Moses: “Go before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel. And take in your hand the staff, with which you struck the river, and advance.	5 Respondió el Señor a Moisés: «Pasa al frente del pueblo y toma contigo algunos de los ancianos de Israel; empuña el bastón con el que golpeaste el Nilo y marcha.
6 Lo, I will stand in that place before you, on the rock of Horeb. And you shall strike the rock, and water will go forth from it, so that the people may drink.” Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.	6 Yo estaré allí ante ti, junto a la roca de Horeb. Golpea la roca, y saldrá agua para que beba el pueblo». Moisés lo hizo así a la vista de los ancianos de Israel.
7 And he called the name of that place ‘Temptation,’ because of the arguing of the sons of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying: “Is the Lord with us, or not?”	7 Y llamó a aquel lugar Masá y Meribá, a causa de la querella de los hijos de Israel y porque habían tentado al Señor, diciendo: «¿Está el Señor entre nosotros o no?».
8 And Amalek came and fought against Israel at Rephidim.	8 Amalec vino y atacó a Israel en Refidín.
9 And Moses said to Joshua: “Choose men. And when you go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my hand.”	9 Moisés dijo a Josué: «Escoge unos cuantos hombres, haz una salida y ataca a Amalec. Mañana yo estaré en pie en la cima del monte, con el bastón de Dios en la mano».
10 Joshua did as Moses had spoken, and he fought against Amalek. But Moses and Aaron and Hur ascended to the top of the hill.	10 Hizo Josué lo que le decía Moisés, y atacó a Amalec; entretanto, Moisés, Aarón y Jur subían a la cima del monte.
11 And when Moses lifted up his hands, Israel prevailed. But when he released them a little while, Amalek overcame.	11 Mientras Moisés tenía en alto las manos, vencía Israel; mientras las tenía bajadas, vencía Amalec.
12 Then the hands of Moses became heavy. And so, taking a stone, they placed it beneath him, and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur sustained his hands from both sides. And it happened that his hands did not tire until the setting of the sun.	12 Y, como le pesaban los brazos, sus compañeros tomaron una piedra y se la pusieron debajo, para que se sentase; mientras, Aarón y Jur le sostenían los brazos, uno a cada lado. Así resistieron en alto sus brazos hasta la puesta del sol.
13 And Joshua put to flight Amalek and his people by the edge of the sword.	13 Josué derrotó a Amalec y a su pueblo, a filo de espada.
14 Then the Lord said to Moses: “Write this, as a memorial in a book, and deliver it to the ears of Joshua. For I will wipe away the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”	14 El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Escribe esto en un libro para recuerdo y trasmítele a Josué que yo borraré la memoria de Amalec bajo el cielo».
15 And Moses built an altar. And he called its name, ‘The Lord, my Exaltation.’ For he said:	15 Moisés levantó un altar y lo llamó «Señor, mi estandarte»,
16 “The hand of the throne of the Lord, and the war of the Lord, will be against Amalek from generation to generation.”	16 diciendo: «Porque su mano se ha levantado contra el estandarte del Señor, el Señor está en guerra con Amalec de generación en generación».
