Now to his son Shemaiah, there were born sons, rulers of their families. For they were very strong men.6 His son Shemaiah also had sons who wielded authority in their family, because they were men ofoutstanding quality.

Now, from Hosah, that is, from the sons of Merari: Shimri the leader, for he had not had a firstborn son, and so, because of this, his father had appointed him as the leader,10 Hosah, one of the sons of Merari, had sons: Shimri was the first, for although he was not the first-born his father had made him the chief.
Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth. All these, the sons and brothers of Hosah, were thirteen.11 Hilkiah was the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth: Hosah had thirteen sons andbrothers in al .
These were distributed as porters, so that the leaders of the posts, as well as their brothers, were ministering continually in the house of the Lord.12 These orders of gatekeepers, al ocated according to their headmen, had duties, just like theirbrothers, of serving in the house of Yahweh.
Then they cast lots equally, for both the small and the great, by their families, concerning each one of the gates.13 Similarly, they drew lots for each gate, whether their families were large or small.
And the lot of the east fell out to Shelemiah. But to his son Zechariah, a very prudent and learned man, the northern section was obtained by lot.14 For the eastern one, the lot fel to Shelemiah; and when they drew lots for Zechariah his son, ashrewd counsel or, his lot came out for the north.
Truly, Obededom and his sons obtained that to the south, in the part of the house where the council of elders was.15 To Obed-Edom went the south, and to his sons the storehouses.
Shuppim and Hosah obtained that toward the west, beside the gate that leads to the way of the ascent, one post facing the other.16 To Shuppim and Hosah went the west with the Gate of the Fel ed Tree-trunk on the upper road. Thecorresponding guards were as fol ows:
Truly, toward the east there were six Levites, and toward the north there were four per day, and then toward the south similarly there were four each day. And where the council was, there were two and two.17 for the east gate, six per day; for the north gate, four per day; for the south gate, four per day; for thestorehouses, two each;

These are the divisions of the porters of the sons of Kohath and of Merari.19 These were the orders of the gatekeepers of the sons of Korah and the sons of Merari.
Now Ahijah was over the treasuries of the house of God, and the holy vessels.20 The Levites, their brothers, who were responsible for the treasures of the house of God and for thetreasures of consecrated gifts,
The sons of Ladan, sons of Gershon: from Ladan, leaders of the families of Ladan and of Gershon: Jehieli.21 were the sons of Ladan and belonged to the Gershonites -- the heads of the families of Ladan weredescended from Ladan the Gershonite -- that is to say, the Jehielites.
The sons of Jehieli: Zetham and Joel; his brothers were over the treasuries of the house of the Lord,22 The sons of the Jehielites, Zetham and Joel his brother, were responsible for the treasures of thehouse of Yahweh.
with the Amramites, and Izharites, and Hebronites, and Uzzielites.23 Over the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites, and Uzzielites

These things were from the wars and from the best spoils of the battles, which they had consecrated for the repair and the furnishing of the temple of the Lord.27 who had dedicated a part of the spoils of war to the service of the house of Yahweh,
Now all these things were sanctified by Samuel, the seer, and by Saul, the son of Kish, and by Abner, the son of Ner, and by Joab, the son of Zeruiah. All those who had sanctified these were under the hand of Shelomoth and his brothers.28 and also for al that Samuel the seer, Saul son of Kish, Abner son of Ner and Joab son of Zeruiahhad dedicated. In fact, whatever was dedicated was the responsibility of Shelomoth and his kinsmen.

In the fortieth year of David's reign research was done onthe lineage and relationships of the Hebronites, and men of outstanding quality from among them were found atJazer in Gilead.
And his brothers of a mature age were two thousand seven hundred leaders of families. Then king David placed them in charge of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the one half tribe of Manasseh, in all of the ministries of God and of the king.32 There were twenty-seven hundred outstanding men, heads of families, whom King David put incharge of the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh in al matters pertaining to God and theking.
