But king Solomon loved many foreign women, including the daughter of Pharaoh, and women of Moab, and of Ammon, and of Idumea, and of Sidon, and of the Hittites.1 El rey Salomón amó a muchas mujeres extranjeras, además de la hija de Faraón, moabitas, ammonitas, edomitas, sidonias, hititas,
These were of the nations about whom the Lord said to the sons of Israel: “You shall not enter to them, and none of them shall enter to anyone of yours. For they will most certainly turn aside your hearts, so that you follow their gods.” And yet, to these Solomon was joined with a greatly enflamed love.2 de los pueblos de los que dijo Yahveh a los israelitas: «No os uniréis a ellas y ellas no se unirán a vosotros, pues de seguro arrastrarán vuestro corazón tras sus dioses», pero Salomón se apegó a ellas por amor;
And for him, there were seven hundred wives, as if they were queens, and three hundred concubines. And the women turned aside his heart.3 tuvo setecientas mujeres con rango de princesas y trescientas concubinas.
And when now he was old, his heart was perverted by the women, so that he followed strange gods. And his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David.4 En la ancianidad de Salomón sus mujeres inclinaron su corazón tras otros dioses, y su corazón no fue por entero de Yahveh su Dios, como el corazón de David su padre.
For Solomon worshipped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Milcom, the idol of the Ammonites.5 Salomón se fue tras de Astarté, diosa de los sidonios, y tras de Milkom, monstruo abominable de los ammonitas.
And Solomon did what was not pleasing in the sight of the Lord. And he did not continue to follow the Lord, as his father David did.6 Salomón hizo lo malo a los ojos de Yahveh, y no siguió plenamente con Yahveh como David su padre.
Then Solomon built a shrine for Chemosh, the idol of Moab, on the mount that is opposite Jerusalem, and for Milcom, the idol of the sons of Ammon.7 Entonces edificó Salomón un altar a Kemós, monstruo abominable de Moab, sobre el monte que está frente a Jerusalén, y a Milkom, monstruo abominable de los ammonitas.
And he acted in this manner for all his foreign wives, who were burning incense and immolating to their gods.8 Lo mismo hizo con todas sus mujeres extranjeras que quemaban incienso y sacrificaban a sus dioses.
And so, the Lord became angry with Solomon, because his mind had been turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,9 Se enojó Yahveh contra Salomón por que había desviado su corazón de Yahveh, Dios de Israel, que se le había aparecido dos veces,
and who had instructed him about this matter, lest he follow strange gods. But he did not observe what the Lord commanded to him.10 y le había ordenado sobre este asunto que no fuera en pos de otros dioses, pero no guardó lo que Yahveh le había ordenado.
And so, the Lord said to Solomon: “Because you have this with you, and because you have not kept my covenant and my precepts, which I commanded to you, I will tear apart your kingdom, and I will give it to your servant.11 Yahveh dijo a Salomón: «Porque de tu parte has hecho esto y no has guardado mi alianza y las leyes que te ordené, voy a arrancar el reino de sobre ti y lo daré a un siervo tuyo.
Yet truly, I will not do it in your days, for the sake of your father David. From the hand of your son, I will tear it away.12 No lo haré sin embargo en vida tuya por causa de David tu padre; lo arrancaré de mano de tu hijo.
Neither will I take away the whole kingdom. Instead, I will grant one tribe to your son, for the sake of David, my servant, and Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”13 Tampoco arrancaré todo el reino; daré una tribu a tu hijo, en atención a David, mi siervo, y a causa de Jerusalén que he elegido».
Then the Lord raised up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad of Idumea, from an offspring of the king who was in Idumea.14 Suscitó Yahveh un adversario a Salomón en Hadad, edomita, de la estirpe real de Edom.
For when David was in Idumea, Joab, the leader of the military, had ascended to bury those who had been killed, and he had killed every male in Idumea.15 Cuando David batió a Edom, y Joab, jefe del ejército, subió a sepultar los muertos, mató a todos los varones de Edom,
And Joab remained in that place for six months, with all of Israel, until he had put to death every male in Idumea.16 pues Joab y todo Israel permanecieron allí seis meses hasta exterminar todos los varones de Edom.
Then Hadad fled, he and some men of Idumea from among the servants of his father with him, so that he might enter into Egypt. But Hadad was then a little boy.17 Pero Hadad consiguió huir con algunos hombres edomitas de entre los servidores de su padre, para irse a Egipto. Era Hadad un muchacho pequeño.
And when they had risen up from Midian, they went into Paran, and they took with them some men from Paran. And they went into Egypt, to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. And he gave him a house, and he appointed food for him, and he assigned land to him.18 Habían partido de Madián y llegaron a Farán, tomaron consigo hombres de Farán y llegaron a Egipto, donde Faraón, rey de Egipto, que le dio casa, le prometió sustento y le dio tierras.
And Hadad found great favor before Pharaoh, so much so that he gave to him as wife, the sister of his own wife, queen Tahpenes.19 Hadad encontró mucho favor a los ojos de Faraón, que le dio por mujer a la hermana de su mujer, la hermana de la Gran Dama Tajfenés.
And the sister of Tahpenes bore to him a son, Genubath. And Tahpenes raised him in the house of Pharaoh. And Genubath was living with Pharaoh and his sons.20 La hermana de Tajfenés le dio a luz a su hijo Guenubat, que Tajfenés crió en la casa de Faraón, y Guenubat vivió en la casa de Faraón con los hijos de Faraón.
And when Hadad had heard in Egypt that David had slept with his fathers, and that Joab, the leader of the military, had died, he said to Pharaoh, “Release me, so that I may go to my own land.”21 Oyó Hadad en Egipto que David se había acostado con sus padres y que había muerto Joab, jefe del ejército, y dijo Hadad a Faraón: «Déjame partir para ir a mi tierra».
And Pharaoh said to him, “But what is lacking to you with me, so that you would seek to go to your own land?” But he responded: “Nothing. Yet I beg you that you may release me.”22 Faraón le dijo: «¿Qué te falta a mi lado para que trates de ir a tu tierra?» El respondió: «Nada, pero déjame partir».
Also, God raised up against him an adversary, Rezon, the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord, Hadad-Ezer, the king of Zobah.23 Dios le suscitó otro adversario en Rezón, hijo de Elyadá, que había huido del lado de su señor Hadadézer, rey de Sobá:
And he gathered together men against him. And when David put those of Zobah to death, he became a leader of robbers. And they went away to Damascus, and they lived there. And they appointed him to be king of Damascus.24 se le unieron algunos hombres y se hizo jefe de banda. Fue entonces cuando David los mató. El se fue a Damasco, se estableció allí, y comenzó a reinar en Damasco.
And he was an adversary to Israel during all the days of Solomon. And such is the evil of Hadad and of his hatred against Israel. And he reigned in Syria.25 Fue un adversario de Israel toda la vida de Salomón. Este mal hizo Hadad: tuvo aversión a Israel y reinó en Edom.
Also, there was Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite from Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother was named Zeruah, a widowed woman. He lifted up his hand against the king.26 Jeroboam era hijo de Nebat, efraimita de Seredá; su madre se llamaba Seruá y era viuda. Era servidor de Salomón y alzó la mano contra el rey.
And this is the reason for his rebellion against him: that Solomon built up Millo, and that he filled in a deep hole in the city of David, his father.27 Esta fue la ocasión de que alzara su mano contra el rey: Salomón estaba construyendo el Milló, para cerrar la brecha de la ciudad de David su padre.
Now Jeroboam was a valiant and powerful man. And perceiving the young man to be ingenious and industrious, Solomon appointed him as first ruler over the tributes of the entire house of Joseph.28 Este Jeroboam era hombre de valía. Salomón vio cómo este joven hacía su trabajo y le puso al frente de toda la leva de la casa de José.
And it happened, in that time, that Jeroboam departed from Jerusalem. And the prophet Ahijah, the Shilonite, wearing with a new cloak, found him on the way. And the two were alone in the field.29 Por aquel tiempo salió Jeroboam de Jerusalén, y el profeta Ajías de Silo le encontró en el camino. Iba éste cubierto con un manto nuevo y estaban los dos solos en el campo.
And taking his new cloak, with which he was covered, Ahijah tore it into twelve parts.30 Ajías tomó el manto nuevo que llevaba, lo rasgó en doce jirones
And he said to Jeroboam: “Take ten pieces for yourself. For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I will tear the kingdom from the hand of Solomon, and I will give to you ten tribes.31 y dijo a Jeroboam: «Toma para ti diez jirones, porque así dice Yahveh, Dios de Israel: Voy a hacer jirones el reino de manos de Salomón y te voy a dar diez tribus.
Yet one tribe shall remain with him, for the sake of my servant, David, as well as Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.32 Le quedará la otra tribu en atención a mi siervo David y a Jerusalén, la ciudad que me elegí entre todas las tribus de Israel;
For he has abandoned me, and he has adored Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Chemosh, the god of Moab, and Milcom, the god of the sons of Ammon. And he has not walked in my ways, so that he would do justice before me, and so that he would carry out my precepts and judgments, as his father David did.33 porque me ha abandonado y se ha postrado ante Astarté, diosa de los sidonios, ante Kemós, dios de Moab, y ante Milkom, dios de los ammonitas, y no ha seguido mis caminos haciendo lo que es justo a mis ojos, ni mis decretos ni mis sentencias como su padre David.
But I will not take the entire kingdom from his hand. Instead, I will establish him as the ruler during all the days of his life, for the sake of my servant David, whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my precepts.34 Pero no tomaré todo el reino de su mano; le mantendré como príncipe todos los días de su vida en atención a David mi siervo, a quién elegí y que guardó mis mandatos y mis decretos.
But I will take away the kingdom from the hand of his son, and I will give to you ten tribes.35 Pero tomaré el reino de mano de su hijo y te daré de él diez tribus;
Then, to his son, I will give one tribe, so that there may remain a lamp for my servant David before me, for all days, in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen, so that my name would be there.36 daré a su hijo una tribu para que quede siempre a David mi siervo una lámpara en mi presencia, delante de mí en Jerusalén, la ciudad que me elegí para poner allí mi Nombre.
And I will take you up, and you shall reign over all that your soul desires. And you shall be king over Israel.37 Te tomaré a ti y te haré reinar sobre cuanto desee tu alma, y serás rey de Israel.
Therefore, if you will listen to all that I will command you, and if you will walk in my ways, and do what is right in my sight, keeping my commandments and my precepts, just as my servant David did, then I will be with you, and I will build for you a faithful house, in the way that I built a house for David, and I will deliver Israel to you.38 Si escuchas todo cuanto yo te ordene, y andas por mi camino, y haces lo recto a mis ojos guardando mis decretos y mis mandamientos como hizo David mi siervo, yo estaré contigo y te edificaré una casa estable como se la edifiqué a David. Te entregaré Israel
And I will afflict the offspring of David over this, but truly not for all days.’ ”39 y humillaré el linaje de David por esta causa. Pero no para siempre».
Therefore, Solomon wanted to kill Jeroboam. But he rose up and fled away to Egypt, to Shishak, the king of Egypt. And he was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.40 Salomón trató de dar muerte a Jeroboam, pero Jeroboam se levantó y huyó a Egipto, junto a Sosaq, rey de Egipto, y estuvo en Egipto hasta la muerte de Salomón.
Now the rest of the words of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom: behold, these are all written in the book of the words of the days of Solomon.41 El resto de los hechos de Salomón, todo lo que hizo y su sabiduría ¿no está escrito en el libro de los hechos de Salomón?
And the days that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem, over all of Israel, were forty years.42 El tiempo que Salomón reinó en Jerusalén sobre todo Israel fue de cuarenta años.
And Solomon slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David, his father. And Rehoboam, his son, reigned in his place.43 Se acostó Salomón con sus padres y fue sepultado en la ciudad de su padre David. Reinó en su lugar su hijo Roboam.
