1 Five days later the high priest Ananias came down with some of the elders and an advocate namedTertul us, and they laid information against Paul before the governor.	1 Cinq jours plus tard, le grand prêtre Ananias descendit à Césarée avec un groupe d’Anciens et un avocat, un certain Tertullus. Ils se présentèrent devant le gouverneur comme accusateurs de Paul.
2 Paul was called, and Tertullus opened for the prosecution, 'Your Excel ency, Felix, the unbroken peacewe enjoy and the reforms this nation owes to your foresight	2 On le fit appeler, et Tertullus commença son réquisitoire: "Excellent Félix, nous jouissons d’une vraie tranquillité grâce à toi et aux réformes que tu as su prévoir pour le bien de cette nation.
3 are matters we accept, always and everywhere, with al gratitude.	3 Constamment et partout nous savons le reconnaître et nous t’en disons un vrai merci.
4 I do not want to take up too much of your time, but I urge you in your graciousness to give us a briefhearing.	4 Mais je ne voudrais pas t’importuner, et je te prie de nous écouter quelques instants avec ta bienveillance habituelle.
5 We have found this man a perfect pest; he stirs up trouble among Jews the world over and is aringleader of the Nazarene sect.	5 “Nous avons établi que cet homme soulève des émeutes chez tous les Juifs du monde civilisé: c’est une vraie peste! Et c’est un des porte-paroles de la secte des Nazaréens.
6 He has even attempted to profane the Temple. We placed him under arrest.	6 Il a essayé de profaner le Temple, aussi l’avons-nous arrêté et voulions-nous le juger selon notre Loi.
7 'I know that you have administered justice over this nation for many years, and I can therefore speakwith confidence in my defence.	7 C’est alors que le commandant Lysias est intervenu de façon très violente; il nous l’a arraché des mains et a ordonné à ses accusateurs de se présenter devant toi.
8 If you ask him you can find out for yourself the truth of al our accusations against this man.'	8 Tu pourras d’ailleurs lui faire confirmer tous ces détails et tu sauras ainsi de quoi nous l’accusons.”
9 The Jews supported him, asserting that these were the facts.	9 Les Juifs l’appuyèrent et certifièrent que tout cela était exact.
10 When the governor motioned him to speak, Paul answered:	10 Alors, sur un signe du gouverneur, Paul prit la parole: “Je sais que tu gouvernes cette nation depuis un bon nombre d’années, et pour cela même je me défendrai plus spontanément.
11 As you can verify for yourself, it is no more than twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem onpilgrimage,	11 Tu pourras d’abord vérifier toi-même que je suis à Jérusalem depuis seulement douze jours: j’y suis venu pour adorer.
12 and it is not true that they ever found me arguing with anyone or stirring up the mob, either in theTemple, in the synagogues, or about the town;	12 Ensuite, on ne m’a pas pris dans le Temple en train de discuter ou d’exciter la foule, et pas davantage dans les synagogues ou en ville.
13 neither can they give you any proof of the accusations they are making against me now.	13 Ils sont incapables de prouver ce dont ils m’accusent en ce moment.
14 'What I do admit to you is this: it is according to the Way, which they describe as a sect, that I worshipthe God of my ancestors, retaining my belief in al points of the Law and in what is written in the prophets;	14 “Mais c’est vrai, je t’avoue que je sers le Dieu de mes pères selon notre Chemin, qu’ils traitent d’hérésie. Je crois donc tout ce qui est écrit dans la Loi et les Prophètes,
15 and I hold the same hope in God as they do that there will be a resurrection of the upright and thewicked alike.	15 et j’attends de Dieu, comme eux-mêmes l’attendent, une résurrection des bons et des mauvais.
16 In these things, I, as much as they, do my best to keep a clear conscience at al times before God andeveryone.	16 C’est bien pourquoi j’ai soin d’être irréprochable sur tous les plans, aussi bien devant Dieu que devant les hommes.
17 'After several years I came to bring relief-money to my nation and to make offerings;	17 “Après bien des années, je suis venu à la fois pour porter une aide à ceux de ma nation, et pour présenter des offrandes.
18 it was in connection with these that they found me in the Temple; I had been purified, and there wasno crowd involved, and no disturbance.	18 C’est la raison pour laquelle ils m’ont trouvé dans le Temple. J’étais en état de pureté, il n’y avait ni attroupement ni tumulte;
19 But some Jews from Asia -- these are the ones who should have appeared before you and accusedme of whatever they had against me.	19 il y a eu seulement ces Juifs d’Asie: ils auraient bien dû venir et m’accuser s’ils avaient quelque chose à me reprocher!
20 At least let those who are present say what crime they held against me when I stood before theSanhedrin,	20 “Mais ceux qui sont ici devraient dire quel délit ils m’ont trouvé quand j’ai comparu devant le Sanhédrin.
21 unless it were to do with this single claim, when I stood up among them and cal ed out, "It is about theresurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today." '	21 À moins que ce soit parce que j’ai crié face à eux: C’est pour la résurrection des morts que je suis aujourd’hui devant vous en accusé.”
22 At this, Felix, who was fairly well informed about the Way, adjourned the case, saying, 'When Lysiasthe tribune comes down I will give judgement about your case.'	22 Félix était fort bien informé au sujet du Chemin, aussi les renvoya-t-il en disant: "Quand le commandant Lysias sera descendu, je déciderai votre affaire.”
23 He then gave orders to the centurion that Paul should be kept under arrest but free from restriction,and that none of his own people should be prevented from seeing to his needs.	23 Félix donna des instructions au centurion: il devait garder Paul, mais avec une certaine souplesse, et n’empêcher aucun des siens de lui venir en aide.
24 Some days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and gave him ahearing on the subject of faith in Christ Jesus.	24 Quelques jours plus tard, Félix vint avec sa femme Drusille qui était juive. Il fit appeler Paul et l’entendit sur la foi au Christ Jésus.
25 But when Paul began to treat of uprightness, self-control and the coming Judgement, Felix took frightand said, 'You may go for the present; I wil send for you when I find it convenient.'	25 Mais quand il commença à discuter sur la justice, le contrôle des instincts et le jugement à venir, Félix prit peur. Il coupa: "Pour l’instant tu peux t’en aller, je trouverai un moment pour te rappeler.”
26 At the same time he had hopes of receiving money from Paul, and for this reason he sent for himfrequently and had talks with him.	26 De fait, il espérait obtenir de Paul quelque présent, c’est pourquoi il l’appelait assez régulièrement et conversait avec lui.
27 When two years came to an end, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus and, being anxious to gainfavour with the Jews, Felix left Paul in custody.	27 Deux années s’écoulèrent ainsi. Félix fut alors remplacé par Porcius Festus et, comme il voulait faire aux Juifs une faveur, il laissa Paul en captivité.
