1 In my earlier work, Theophilus, I dealt with everything Jesus had done and taught from the beginning	1 El primer libro lo escribí, Teófilo, sobre todo lo que Jesús hizo y enseñó desde un principio
2 until the day he gave his instructions to the apostles he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, and wastaken up to heaven.	2 hasta el día en que, después de haber dado instrucciones por medio del Espíritu Santo a los apóstoles que había elegido, fue llevado al cielo.
3 He had shown himself alive to them after his Passion by many demonstrations: for forty days he hadcontinued to appear to them and tel them about the kingdom of God.	3 A estos mismos, después de su pasión, se les presentó dándoles muchas pruebas de que vivía, apareciéndoseles durante cuarenta días y hablándoles acerca de lo referente al Reino de Dios.
4 While at table with them, he had told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for what the Fatherhad promised. 'It is', he had said, 'what you have heard me speak about:	4 Mientras estaba comiendo con ellos, les mandó que no se ausentasen de Jerusalén, sino que aguardasen la Promesa del Padre, «que oísteis de mí:
5 John baptised with water but, not many days from now, you are going to be baptised with the HolySpirit.'	5 Que Juan bautizó con agua, pero vosotros seréis bautizados en el Espíritu Santo dentro de pocos días».
6 Now having met together, they asked him, 'Lord, has the time come for you to restore the kingdom toIsrael?'	6 Los que estaban reunidos le preguntaron: «Señor, ¿es en este momento cuando vas a restablecer el Reino de Israel?»
7 He replied, 'It is not for you to know times or dates that the Father has decided by his own authority,	7 El les contestó: «A vosotros no os toca conocer el tiempo y el momento que ha fijado el Padre con su autoridad,
8 but you wil receive the power of the Holy Spirit which wil come on you, and then you will be mywitnesses not only in Jerusalem but throughout Judaea and Samaria, and indeed to earth's remotest end.'	8 sino que recibiréis la fuerza del Espíritu Santo, que vendrá sobre vosotros, y seréis mis testigos en Jerusalén, en toda Judea y Samaria, y hasta los confines de la tierra».
9 As he said this he was lifted up while they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight.	9 Y dicho esto, fue levantado en presencia de ellos, y una nube le ocultó a sus ojos.
10 They were stil staring into the sky as he went, when suddenly two men in white were standing besidethem,	10 Estando ellos mirando fijamente al cielo mientras se iba, se les aparecieron dos hombres vestidos de blanco
11 and they said, 'Why are you Galileans standing here looking into the sky? This Jesus who has beentaken up from you into heaven wil come back in the same way as you have seen him go to heaven.'	11 que les dijeron: «Galileos, ¿qué hacéis ahí mirando al cielo? Este que os ha sido llevado, este mismo Jesús, vendrá así tal como le habéis visto subir al cielo».
12 So from the Mount of Olives, as it is cal ed, they went back to Jerusalem, a short distance away, nomore than a Sabbath walk;	12 Entonces se volvieron a Jerusalén desde el monte llamado de los Olivos, que dista poco de Jerusalén, el espacio de un camino sabático.
13 and when they reached the city they went to the upper room where they were staying; there were Peterand John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus andSimon the Zealot, and Jude son of James.	13 Y cuando llegaron subieron a la estancia superior, donde vivían, Pedro, Juan, Santiago y Andrés; Felipe y Tomás; Bartolomé y Mateo; Santiago de Alfeo, Simón el Zelotes y Judas de Santiago.
14 With one heart al these joined constantly in prayer, together with some women, including Mary themother of Jesus, and with his brothers.	14 Todos ellos perseveraban en la oración, con un mismo espíritu en compañía de algunas mujeres, de María, la madre de Jesús, y de sus hermanos.
15 One day Peter stood up to speak to the brothers -- there were about a hundred and twenty people inthe congregation,	15 Uno de aquellos días Pedro se puso en pie en medio de los hermanos - el número de los reunidos era de unos ciento veinte - y les dijo:
16 'Brothers,' he said, 'the passage of scripture had to be fulfil ed in which the Holy Spirit, speaking through David, foretel s the fate of Judas, who acted as guide to the men who arrested Jesus-	16 «Hermanos, era preciso que se cumpliera la Escritura en la que el Espíritu Santo, por boca de David, había hablado ya acerca de Judas, el que fue guía de los que prendieron a Jesús.
17 after being one of our number and sharing our ministry.	17 Porque él era uno de los nuestros y obtuvo un puesto en este ministerio.
18 As you know, he bought a plot of land with the money he was paid for his crime. He fell headlong andburst open, and al his entrails poured out.	18 Este, pues, compró un campo con el precio de su iniquidad, y cayendo de cabeza, se reventó por medio y se derramaron todas sus entrañas. -
19 Everybody in Jerusalem heard about it and the plot came to be cal ed "Bloody Acre", in their languageHakeldama.	19 Y esto fue conocido por todos los habitantes de Jerusalén de forma que el campo se llamó en su lengua Haqueldamá, es decir: “Campo de Sangre” -
20 Now in the Book of Psalms it says: Reduce his encampment to ruin and leave his tent unoccupied. Andagain: Let someone else take over his office.	20 Pues en el libro de los Salmos está escrito: Quede su majada desierta, y no haya quien habite en ella. Y también: Que otro reciba su cargo.
21 'Out of the men who have been with us the whole time that the Lord Jesus was living with us,	21 «Conviene, pues, que de entre los hombres que anduvieron con nosotros todo el tiempo que el Señor Jesús convivió con nosotros,
22 from the time when John was baptising until the day when he was taken up from us, one must beappointed to serve with us as a witness to his resurrection.'	22 a partir del bautismo de Juan hasta el día en que nos fue llevado, uno de ellos sea constituido testigo con nosotros de su resurrección».
23 Having nominated two candidates, Joseph known as Barsabbas, whose surname was Justus, andMatthias,	23 Presentaron a dos: a José, llamado Barsabás, por sobrenombre Justo, y a Matías.
24 they prayed, 'Lord, you can read everyone's heart; show us therefore which of these two you havechosen	24 Entonces oraron así: «Tú, Señor, que conoces los corazones de todos, muéstranos a cuál de estos dos has elegido,
25 to take over this ministry and apostolate, which Judas abandoned to go to his proper place.'	25 para ocupar en el ministerio del apostolado el puesto del que Judas desertó para irse adonde le correspondía».
26 They then drew lots for them, and as the lot fel to Matthias, he was listed as one of the twelveapostles.	26 Echaron suertes y la suerte cayó sobre Matías, que fue agregado al número de los doce apóstoles.
