Deuteronomy 14

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 'You are children of Yahweh your God. You must not gash yourselves or shave your foreheads for thedead.	1 Ustedes son hijos del Señor, su Dios. No se hagan incisiones ni se rapen el cabello sobre la frente en homenaje a un muerto.
2 For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God, and Yahweh has chosen you to be his ownpeople from al the peoples on the earth.	2 Porque tú eres un pueblo consagrado al Señor, tu Dios y él te eligió para que fueras su propio pueblo, prefiriéndote a todos los demás pueblos de la tierra.
3 'You must not eat anything disgusting.	3 No comerán nada que sea abominable.
4 These are the animals you may eat: ox, sheep, goat,	4 Ustedes podrán comer los siguientes animales: el buey, la oveja, la cabra,
5 deer, gazel e, roebuck, ibex, antelope, oryx, mountain sheep.	5 el ciervo, la gacela, el venado, la cabra montés, el íbice, el antílope y la gamuza.
6 You may eat any animal that has a divided and cloven hoof and that is a ruminant.	6 Podrán comer, asimismo, cualquier animal que tenga la pezuña partida –es decir, dividida en dos mitades– y que sea rumiante.
7 Of those, however, that are ruminants and of those that have a divided and cloven hoof you may noteat the fol owing: the camel, the hare and the coney, which are ruminants but have no cloven hoof; you mustclass them as unclean.	7 Pero se abstendrán de comer los animales que son solamente rumiantes y los que solamente tienen la pezuña partida por la mitad. No comerán camello, liebre ni damán, porque aunque son rumiantes, no tienen la pezuña partida. A estos animales deberán considerarlos impuros.
8 So also the pig, which though it has a cloven hoof is not a ruminant; you must class it as unclean. Youmust neither eat the meat of such animals nor touch their dead bodies.	8 Tampoco comerán cerdo, porque aunque tiene la pezuña partida, no es rumiante. También a este deberán considerarlo impuro, y no podrán comer su carne ni tocar su cadáver.
9 'Of whatever lives in water you may eat the fol owing: you may eat anything that has fins and scales.	9 De entre los animales que viven en el agua, les estará permitido comer todos aquellos que tengan aletas y escamas.
10 But you must not eat anything without fins and scales: you must class it as unclean.	10 Pero no podrán comer los que o tengan aletas ni escamas: a éstos deberán considerarlos impuros.
11 'You may eat al clean birds,	11 Podrán comer todas las especies de aves puras.
12 but the fol owing birds you must not eat: the tawny vulture, the griffon, the osprey,	12 Pero se abstendrán de comer las siguientes: el águila marina.
13 the kite and the several kinds of buzzard,	13 el milano, las diversas especies de halcón.
14 al kinds of raven,	14 las diversas especies de cuervo:
15 the ostrich, the screech owl, the seagul , the several kinds of hawk,	15 el avestruz, la golondrina, la gaviota y las diversas especies de gavilán;
16 owl, barn owl, ibis,	16 la lechuza, el búho, el ibis.
17 pelican, white vulture, cormorant,	17 el pelícano, el buitre, el corvejón,
18 stork, the several kinds of heron, hoopoe and bat.	18 la cigüeña, las diversas especies de garza, la abubilla y el murciélago.
19 You are to class al winged insects as unclean and must not eat them.	19 También deberán considerar impuros a todos los insectos con alas,
20 You may eat any clean fowl.	20 pero podrán comer cualquier clase de pájaros puros.
21 'You must not eat any animal that has died a natural death. You may give it to a resident foreigner toeat, or sel it to a foreigner. For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God. 'You must not boil a kid in itsmother's milk.	21 No comerán ningún animal muerto. Se lo darás al extranjero que resida en tu ciudad para que él lo coma, o se lo venderás al extranjero que va de paso. Porque tú eres un pueblo consagrado al Señor, tu Dios. No harás cocer un cabrito en la leche de su madre.
22 'Every year, you must take a tithe of what your fields produce from what you have sown	22 Cada año deberás separar la décima parte de todo lo que hayan producido tus sembrados.
23 and, in the presence of Yahweh your God, in the place where he chooses to give his name a home,you must eat the tithe of your wheat, of your new wine and of your oil, and the first-born of your herd and flock;and by so doing, you wil learn always to fear Yahweh your God.	23 y en la presencia del Señor, tu Dios, en el lugar que él elija para constituirlo morada de su Nombre, comerás del diezmo de tu trigo, de tu vino y de tu aceite, y también los primogénitos de tu ganado mayor y menor. Así aprenderás a tener siempre al Señor, tu Dios.
24 'If the road is too long for you, if you cannot bring your tithe because the place in which Yahwehchooses to make a home for his name is too far away, when Yahweh your God has blessed you,	24 Si el camino es demasiado largo para que puedas transportar el diezmo –porque el lugar que el Señor elija te queda muy lejos– cuando el te haya bendecido,
25 you must convert it into money and, with the money clasped in your hand, you must go to the placechosen by Yahweh your God;	25 los cambiarás por dinero y luego irás a ese lugar, llevando contigo el dinero.
26 there you may spend the money on whatever you like, oxen, sheep, wine, fermented liquor, anythingyou please. There you must eat in the presence of Yahweh your God and rejoice, you and your household.	26 Allí podrás comprar con ese dinero todo lo que desees: ganado mayor o menor, vino o bebida fermentada, en una palabra, cualquier cosa que sea de tu agrado. Entonces comerás en la presencia del Señor, tu Dios, y te alegrarás junto con tu familia.
27 Do not neglect the Levite living in your community, since he has no share or heritage of his ownamong you.	27 No olvides al levita que vive en tus ciudades, ya que él no tiene posesión ni herencia contigo.
28 'At the end of every three years, you must take al the tithes of your harvests for that year and col ectthem in your community.	28 al cabo de tres años, deberás separar la décima parte de todo lo producido ese año, y lo depositarás en la puerta de tu ciudad.
29 Then the Levite -- since he has no share or heritage of his own among you -- the foreigner, theorphan and the widow living in your community, wil come and eat all they want. And so Yahweh your God wilbless you in al the labours that you undertake.'	29 Entonces vendrá a comer el levita, ya que él no tiene posesión ni herencia contigo; y lo mismo harán el extranjero, el huérfano y la viuda que están en tus ciudades, hasta quedar saciados. Así el Señor te bendecirá en todas tus empresas.
