Micah 5

NEW JERUSALEM	MODERN HEBREW BIBLE
1 But you (Bethlehem) Ephrathah, the least of the clans of Judah, from you will come for me a future rulerof Israel whose origins go back to the distant past, to the days of old.	1 עתה תתגדדי בת גדוד מצור שם עלינו בשבט יכו על הלחי את שפט ישראל
2 Hence Yahweh will abandon them only until she who is in labour gives birth, and then those who surviveof his race wil be reunited to the Israelites.	2 ואתה בית לחם אפרתה צעיר להיות באלפי יהודה ממך לי יצא להיות מושל בישראל ומוצאתיו מקדם מימי עולם
3 He wil take his stand and he wil shepherd them with the power of Yahweh, with the majesty of thename of his God, and they wil be secure, for his greatness wil extend henceforth to the most distant parts of thecountry.	3 לכן יתנם עד עת יולדה ילדה ויתר אחיו ישובון על בני ישראל
4 He himself wil be peace! Should the Assyrian invade our country, should he set foot in our land, weshall raise seven shepherds against him, eight leaders of men;	4 ועמד ורעה בעז יהוה בגאון שם יהוה אלהיו וישבו כי עתה יגדל עד אפסי ארץ
5 they wil shepherd Assyria with the sword, the country of Nimrod with naked blade. He will save us fromthe Assyrian, should he invade our country, should he set foot inside our frontiers.	5 והיה זה שלום אשור כי יבוא בארצנו וכי ידרך בארמנתינו והקמנו עליו שבעה רעים ושמנה נסיכי אדם
6 Then what is left of Jacob, surrounded by many peoples, wil be like a dew from Yahweh, like showerson the grass, which do not depend on human agency and are beyond human control.	6 ורעו את ארץ אשור בחרב ואת ארץ נמרד בפתחיה והציל מאשור כי יבוא בארצנו וכי ידרך בגבולנו
7 Then what is left of Jacob, surrounded by many peoples, wil be like a lion among the forest beasts, like a fierce lion among flocks of sheep trampling as he goes, mangling his prey which no one takes from him.	7 והיה שארית יעקב בקרב עמים רבים כטל מאת יהוה כרביבים עלי עשב אשר לא יקוה לאיש ולא ייחל לבני אדם
8 You wil be victorious over your foes and al your enemies will be torn to pieces.	8 והיה שארית יעקב בגוים בקרב עמים רבים כאריה בבהמות יער ככפיר בעדרי צאן אשר אם עבר ורמס וטרף ואין מציל
9 When that day comes- declares Yahweh- I shal tear your horses away from you, I shal destroy yourchariots;	9 תרם ידך על צריך וכל איביך יכרתו
10 I shall tear the cities from your country, I shal overthrow all your fortresses;	10 והיה ביום ההוא נאם יהוה והכרתי סוסיך מקרבך והאבדתי מרכבתיך
11 I shall tear the spells out of your hands and you wil have no more soothsayers;	11 והכרתי ערי ארצך והרסתי כל מבצריך
12 I shall tear away your images and your sacred pillars from among you, and no longer wil you worshipthings which your own hands have made!	12 והכרתי כשפים מידך ומעוננים לא יהיו לך
13 I shall uproot your sacred poles and shal destroy your cities!	13 והכרתי פסיליך ומצבותיך מקרבך ולא תשתחוה עוד למעשה ידיך
14 In furious anger I shal wreak vengeance on the nations who have disobeyed me!	14 ונתשתי אשיריך מקרבך והשמדתי עריך
	15 ועשיתי באף ובחמה נקם את הגוים אשר לא שמעו
