Hosea 12

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 Ephraim besieges me with lying, the House of Israel with duplicity. (But Judah stil is on God's side, heis faithful to the Holy One.)	1 Éphraïm m’a entouré de mensonges, la maison d’Israël me trompe; il reste attaché au Baal et fidèle à ses divinités.
2 Ephraim feeds himself on wind, all day he chases the wind from the East, he heaps up cheating andviolence; they make a treaty with Assyria, at the same time sending oil to Egypt.	2 Éphraïm se nourrit d’illusions, tout le jour il poursuit le vent d’est. Il multiplie mensonges et violences; il conclut une alliance avec l’Assyrie tout en flattant l’Égypte.
3 Yahweh has a case against Judah, he will punish Jacob as his conduct merits, he will repay him as hisdeeds deserve.	3 Aussi Yahvé est-il en procès avec Israël; il va demander des comptes à Jacob pour sa conduite et le punir pour ses méfaits.
4 In the very womb he overreached his brother, in maturity he wrestled against God.	4 Dès le sein maternel il est passé devant son frère et, à l’âge mûr il a lutté avec Dieu.
5 He wrestled with the angel and beat him, he wept and pleaded with him. He met him at Bethel andthere God spoke to us-	5 Il a lutté avec l’ange et il a gagné; il l’implora et lui demanda grâce. Il le rencontra à Béthel et là Dieu lui a parlé.
6 yes, Yahweh, God Sabaoth, Yahweh is his title!	6 (Yahvé, le Dieu Sabaot dont le nom est Yahvé.
7 So turn back with God's help, maintain faithful love and loyalty and always put your trust in your God.	7 Et toi, reviens à ton Dieu, pratique l’amour et la justice, et espère en ton Dieu toujours.)
8 Merchants use fraudulent scales. To defraud is his delight.	8 C’est un vrai Cananéen, qui tient une balance fausse et qui aime tricher.
9 'How rich I have become!' says Ephraim, 'I have made a fortune.' But of al his gains he wil keepnothing because of the sin of which he is guilty.	9 Éphraïm a beau dire: “Je me suis enrichi, j’ai acquis un trésor”, il ne gardera rien de tout ce qu’il a amassé, car il faisait le mal.
10 But I have been Yahweh your God since your days in Egypt and will make you live in tents again asin the days of Meeting.	10 Moi, Yahvé, qui suis ton Dieu depuis le pays d’Égypte, je te ferai retourner sous la tente comme au jour du Rendez-Vous.
11 I will speak through prophets, I will give vision after vision and through the ministry of prophets wilspeak in parables.	11 Je parlerai aux prophètes, je multiplierai les visions et je dirai des paraboles par la bouche des prophètes.
12 Is Gilead a sink of iniquity? Yes, they are a worthless lot! At Gilgal they sacrifice to bulls, that is whytheir altars are like heaps of stones in a ploughed field.	12 À Galaad c’est le crime, mais eux ne sont que mensonge; à Guilgal ils offrent des sacrifices à des taureaux, mais leurs autels deviendront des tas de pierres dans les champs.
13 Jacob fled to the countryside of Aram, Israel slaved to win a wife, to win a wife he looked after sheep.	13 Jacob s’était enfui aux campagnes d’Aram, Israël avait travaillé pour une femme; pour une femme il s’était fait gardien.
14 By a prophet Yahweh brought Israel out of Egypt and by a prophet Israel was preserved.	14 Mais par un prophète Yahvé a fait monter Israël d’Égypte, il se l’est gardé grâce à un prophète.
15 Ephraim gave bitter provocation- Yahweh will bring his bloodshed down on him, his Lord wil repayhim for his insult.	15 Éphraïm a gravement péché, c’est pourquoi Yahvé fera retomber sur lui le sang versé, son Seigneur lui retournera ses affronts.
