Jeremiah 38

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 But Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jucal son of Shelemiah and Pashhur son ofMalchiah heard the words which Jeremiah was saying to al the people,	1 E udio Safatia figliuolo di Matan, e Gedelia figliuolo di Fassur, e Iucal figliuolo di Selemia, e Fassur figliuolo di Melchia, le parole che Ieremia profetò per la città:
2 'Yahweh says this, "Anyone who stays in this city wil die by sword, famine or plague; but anyone wholeaves it and surrenders to the Chaldaeans wil live; he wil escape with his life.	2 Questo dice lo Signore: chiunque permarrà in questa città, morrà di coltello e di fame e di pestilenza; ma chi fuggirà alli Caldei, viverà, e l' anima sua sarà vivente e sana e salva.
3 Yahweh says this: This city will certainly be handed over to the army of the king of Babylon, and he willcapture it." '	3 Questo dice Iddio: questa città sarà data in mano dello esèrcito dello re di Babilonia, e piglieralla.
4 The chief men then said to the king, 'You must have this man put to death: he is unquestionablydisheartening the remaining soldiers in the city, and al the people too, by talking like this. This man is seekingnot the welfare of the people but their ruin.'	4 E dissono li principi allo re: preghiamoti tutti, che questo uomo sia morto; egli hae desolate le mani de' combattenti della industria, i quali rimasono in questa cittade, e le mani dello universo populo, parlante a loro tutte queste parole; in verità questo [uomo] non addomanda pace in questo populo, ma male.
5 King Zedekiah answered, 'He is in your hands as you know, for the king is powerless to oppose you.'	5 E disse lo re Sedecia: ecco egli è nelle vostre mani, e non è lecito che lo re vi neghi alcuna cosa.
6 So they took Jeremiah and put him into the storage-wel of the king's son Malchiah in the Court of theGuard, letting him down with ropes. There was no water in the storage-well, only mud, and into the mudJeremiah sank.	6 E tolsono Ieremia, e gittaronlo nello lago di Melchia figliuolo di Amelec, il quale era nell' antiporta della carcere; e sottomisero Ieremia colle funi nel lago, dove non era acqua, ma luto; discese Ieremia nel lago.
7 But Ebed-Melech the Cushite, a eunuch attached to the palace, heard that Jeremiah had been put intothe storage-wel . As the king was sitting in the Benjamin Gate,	7 E udio Abdemelec, ch' è di Etiopia, uomo castrato il quale era nella casa dello re, che elli avessono messo Ieremia nel lago; e lo re sedea nella porta di Beniamin.
8 Ebed-Melech came out from the palace and spoke to the king.	8 E uscio Abdemelec della casa dello re, e parlò allo re, dicendo:
9 'My lord king,' he said, 'these men have done a wicked thing by treating the prophet Jeremiah like this:they have thrown him into the storage-well. He will starve to death there, since there is no more food in the city.'	9 Signore mio re, male hanno fatto questi uomini con tutto ciò che hanno commesso contro a Ieremia profeta, mettendolo nel lago acciò ch' elli muoia ivi di fame; non ci è più pane nella città.
10 At this the king gave Ebed-Melech the Cushite the fol owing order: 'Take thirty men with you from hereand pul the prophet Jeremiah out of the storage-wel before he dies.'	10 E comandò lo re ad Abdemelec, e disse: tolli con teco trenta uomini, i quali levino Ieremia profeta dal lago, innanzi ch' elli muoia.
11 Ebed-Melech took the men with him and went into the palace to the Treasury wardrobe; out of it hetook some torn, worn-out rags which he lowered on ropes to Jeremiah in the storage-wel .	11 E tolto Abdemelec li uomini, entrò nella casa dello re, la quale era sotto lo cellario; folse indi panni vecchi e antiche vestimenta le quali erano fracide, e sottomisele a Ieremia nel lago colle funi.
12 Ebed-Melech the Cushite then said to Jeremiah, 'These torn, worn-out rags are for you to put underyour armpits to pad the ropes.' Jeremiah did this.	12 E disse Abdemelec di Etiopia a Ieremia: poni li panni vecchi e fracidi allo cubito delle tue mani sopra le funi; e fece Ieremia come li avea detto.
13 Then they hauled Jeremiah up with the ropes and pulled him out of the storage-wel . And Jeremiahstayed in the Court of the Guard.	13 E trassero Ieremia fuori del lago colle funi; e stette Ieremia nell' antiporta della carcere.
14 King Zedekiah had the prophet Jeremiah summoned to him at the third entrance to the Temple ofYahweh. 'I want to ask you for a word,' the king said to Jeremiah, 'keep nothing back from me.'	14 E mandò lo re Sedecia, e tolse Ieremia a sè all' uscio terzo, il quale era nella casa di Dio; e disse lo re a Ieremia: io t' addomando d' una parola, non mi celare nulla.
15 Jeremiah answered Zedekiah, 'If I do proclaim it to you, are you not sure to have me put to death?And if I give you advice, you wil not listen to me.'	15 E disse Ieremia a Sedecia: s' io te la dirò, uccidera'mi tu? e anco, s' io ti darò consiglio, udira'lo tu?
16 King Zedekiah then secretly swore this oath to Jeremiah, 'As Yahweh lives, giver of this life of ours, Iwil have you neither put to death nor handed over to these men who are determined to kill you.'	16 E giurò Sedecia a Ieremia di nascoso, dicente: lo Signore Iddio vive, il quale fece a noi questa anima, s' io t'ucciderò, e s' io ti darò (cioè te) nelle mani di questi uomini, i quali cercano (e addomandano) l'anima tua.
17 Jeremiah then said to Zedekiah, 'Yahweh, God Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this, "If you go out andsurrender to the king of Babylon's generals, your life will be safe and this city will not be burnt down; you andyour family wil survive.	17 E disse Ieremia a Sedecia: questo dice lo Signore degli esèrciti, Iddio d' Israel: se tu uscirai, e anderai alli principi del re di Babilonia, l'anima tua viverà, e questa città non sarà accesa al fuoco, e sarai salvo tu, e la casa tua.
18 But if you do not go out and surrender to the king of Babylon's generals, this city wil be handed overto the Chaldaeans and they wil burn it down; nor wil you yourself escape their clutches." '	18 E se tu non uscirai alli principi dello re di Babilonia, sarà data questa cittade nelle mani dei Caldei, e accenderannola al fuoco, e tu non uscirai delle loro mani.
19 King Zedekiah then said to Jeremiah, 'I am afraid of the Judaeans who have already gone over to theChaldaeans: I might be handed over to them and they would il -treat me.'	19 E disse lo re Sedecia a Ieremia: io sono sollecito per i giudei i quali fuggirono alli Caldei, acciò che forse io non sia dato nelle loro mani, e facciano beffe di me.
20 'You wil not be handed over to them,' Jeremiah replied. 'Please listen to Yahweh's voice as I haverelayed it to you, and then al wil go wel with you and your life wil be safe.	20 E rispose Ieremia (e disse a lui): non ti daranno; odi, priegoti, la voce di Dio, la quale in parlo a te, e averai bene, e viverai tu e l'anima tua.
21 But if you refuse to surrender, this is what Yahweh has shown me:	21 E se tu non vorrai uscire, questo è quello che mi dimostrò Iddio:
22 the sight of al the women left in the king of Judah's palace being led off to the king of Babylon'sgenerals and saying: "They have misled you, they have triumphed over you, those friends of yours! Your feethave sunk in the mud! They are up and away!"	22 Ecco, tutte le femine, le quali rimasono nella casa [del re] di Giuda, saranno menate alla casa dello re di Babilonia, ed elle diranno (a te): li tuoi uomini pacifichi ti hanno sedotto, e sono prevaluti incontro a te, e buttarono nel fango e nello sdrucciolo li tuoi piedi, e partironsi da te.
23 'Yes, al your wives and children wil be led off to the Chaldaeans, and you yourself wil not escapetheir clutches but wil be a prisoner in the clutches of the king of Babylon. And as for this city, it wil be burntdown.'	23 E tutte le tue mogli e' tuoi figliuoli saranno menati alli Caldei; e non fuggirai la loro mano, ma sarai dato nella mano dello re di Babilonia; e arderanno questa città al fuoco.
24 Zedekiah then said to Jeremiah, 'Do not let anyone else hear these words or you wil die.	24 E disse Sedecia a Ieremia: niuno sappia queste parole, e non morrai.
25 If the chief men hear that I have been talking to you, and come and say, "Tel us what you said to theking and what the king said to you; keep nothing back from us, or we shal put you to death,"	25 E se li principi saperanno ch' io abbia parlato teco, e verranno a te e diranno: die a noi quello che tu hai parlato [col re], e non lo ci celare, e noi non ti uccideremo, e che t'ha parlato lo re;
26 you must reply, "I presented this request to the king: that he would not have me sent back toJonathan's house to die." '	26 dirai a loro: io gittai le mie parole innanzi allo re, acciò che non mi facesse (gittare nè) menare nella casa di Ionatan, per ciò morissi ivi.
27 And in fact al the chief men came to Jeremiah and questioned him. He told them exactly what theking had ordered him to say. They then left him in peace, since the conversation had not been overheard.	27 E vennero tutti li principi a Ieremia, e domandaronlo; e Ieremia parlò loro, dicendo secondo le parole che gli avea comandato lo re, e cessaronsi da lui; e non [si] udì nulla.
28 And Jeremiah stayed in the Court of the Guard until the day Jerusalem was captured. And he wasthere when Jerusalem actual y was captured.	28 E stette Ieremia nell' ingresso della carcere insino al dì che fu presa Ierusalem; e così fu fatto ch' ella fu presa.
