Job 23

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Job spoke next. He said:	1 Rispose Iob, e disse:
2 My lament is stil rebellious; despite my groans, his hand is just as heavy.	2 Ora in verità è nella amaritudine la mia parola, e la mano della mia piaga aggravata è sopra lo pianto mio.
3 Wil no one help me to know how to travel to his dwel ing?	3 Chi mi darae ch' io lo conoschi, e trovi lui, e venghi insino alla sedia sua?
4 I should set out my case to him, advancing any number of grievances.	4 Porrò dinanzi a lui lo giudicio, e la bocca mia sì empiroe di reprensione,
5 Then I could learn his defence, every word of it, taking note of everything he said to me.	5 acciò ch' io sappia le parole che risponderae a me, e intenda quello che favellerae a me.
6 Would he put al his strength into this debate with me? No, he would only have to give his attention tome,	6 Io non voglio che con molta fortezza elli contenda meco, nè colla quantità della sua grandezza prema me.
7 to recognise his opponent as upright and so I should win my case for ever.	7 Proponga la equità contro a me, e verrà alla vittoria lo mio giudicio.
8 If I go to the east, he is not there; or to the west, I stil cannot see him.	8 Se ad oriente andrò, non appare; se ad occidente, non lo intenderò.
9 If I seek him in the north, he is not to be found, invisible as ever, if I turn to the south.	9 Se alla parte sinistra, che farò? non piglierò lui; se io mi volgerò alla diritta, io non vederò lui.
10 And yet he knows every step I take! Let him test me in the crucible: I shall come out pure gold.	10 Elli sa veramente la via mia, e proverae me, come l'oro che passa per lo fuoco.
11 My footsteps have fol owed close in his, I have walked in his way without swerving;	11 Gli andamenti suoi seguitò lo mio piede; la sua via guardai, e non mi partii da quella.
12 I have not neglected the commandment of his lips, in my heart I have cherished the words of hismouth.	12 E non mi partii dai comandamenti de' suoi labbri, e nel mio seno riposi le parole della sua bocca.
13 But once he has made up his mind, who can change it? Whatever he plans, that he carries out.	13 Certo elli è solo, e niuno puote rivolgere li suoi pensieri; e l'anima sua, ciò che ella volle, quello fece.
14 No doubt, then, but he wil carry out my sentence, like so many other decrees that he has made.	14 Quando averae compiuto in me la sua volontade, e altre molte cose simiglianti apparecchiate sono a lui.
15 That is why I am ful of fear before him, and the more I think, the greater grows my dread of him.	15 E perciò dalla faccia sua sono turbato; e considerante lui, sono sollecitato con la paura.
16 God has undermined my courage, Shaddai has filled me with fear.	16 Iddio umilioe il cuore mio, e l' Onnipotente conturbò me.
17 The darkness having failed to destroy me, I am plunged back into obscurity by him!	17 Non son ancora perito per le soprastanti tenebre, e la oscuritade non coperse la faccia mia.
