Job 21

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Job spoke next. He said:	1 Rispose Iob, e disse:
2 Listen careful y to my words; let this be the consolation you allow me.	2 Io v' addomando che voi udiate li miei sermoni, e facciate penitenza.
3 Permit me to speak in my turn; you may jeer when I have spoken.	3 Sostenete me, acciò ch' io favelli; e dopo le mie parole, se vi parerà, ridete.
4 Is my complaint just about a fellow-mortal? I have good grounds to be perturbed!	4 Or (non) è contro all' uomo la mia disputazione, acciò che per merito non mi debba contristare?
5 Give your attention to me; you wil be dumbfounded and wil place your hand over your mouth.	5 Attendete a me, e maravigliatevi, e ponete lo dito sopra la bocca vostra.
6 I myself am appalled at the very thought, and my flesh creeps.	6 E io, quando me ne ricorderò, comincio a temere, e percuote lo tremore la mia carne.
7 Why do the wicked stil live on, their power increasing with their age?	7 Adunque perchè vivono i malvagi, sollevati sono e confortati colle ricchezze?
8 They see their posterity assured, and their offspring secure before their eyes.	8 Lo seme loro permane innanzi a loro; la turba de' propinqui e de' nepoti (loro) nel cospetto loro sono.
9 The peace of their houses has nothing to fear, the rod that God wields is not for them.	9 Le case loro sono sicure e umiliate, e non è la verga di Dio sopra loro.
10 No mishap with their bull at breeding-time, nor miscarriage with their cow at calving.	10 Lo bue loro concepette, e non disperse; la vacca partorì, e non è privata del suo parto.
11 They let their infants frisk like lambs, their children dance like deer.	11 Vanno, sì come le gregge, li loro figliuoli; e li fanciulli loro si rallegrano con le lusinghe.
12 They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice to the sound of the pipe.	12 Tengono lo timpano e le chitarre, e rallegransi allo suono degli organi.
13 They end their lives in happiness and go down in peace to Sheol.	13 Menano in bene li loro dì, e in uno punto all' inferno discendono,
14 Yet these are the ones who say to God, 'Go away! We do not want to learn your ways.	14 coloro che dicono a Dio: pàrtiti da noi, e la scienza delle tue vie non vogliamo.
15 What is the point of our serving Shaddai? What should we gain from praying to him?'	15 Chi è lo Onnipotente, che serviamo a lui? Che fa prode a noi, se oreremo a lui?
16 Surely they have won their own prosperity, since God is kept so far from their plans?	16 Ma pertanto, perciò che non sono nelle sue mani li suoi beni, lo consiglio de' malvagi sia dalla lunga da me.
17 Do we often see the light of the wicked put out, or disaster overtake him, or the retribution of Goddestroy his possessions,	17 Quante volte la lucerna delli malvagi sarae spenta, e la inondazione sopraverrae a loro, e li dolori divideranno li loro furori?
18 or the wind blow him away like a straw, or a whirlwind carry him off like chaff?	18 Saranno sì come paglia dinanzi alla faccia del vento, e sì come favilla la qual il vento sparge..
19 So God is storing up punishment for his children? But the wicked himself should be punished, andshould know it!	19 Iddio serba alli loro figliuoli lo dolore del padre; e quando ritornerà, allora lo saperà.
20 He himself should witness his own ruin, and himself drink the anger of Shaddai.	20 Vedranno gli occhii suoi la uccisione sua, e del furore dell' Onnipotente berà.
21 Once he is gone, what joy can he gain from his family, once the number of his months has been cutoff?	21 Che adunque a lui s' appartiene della casa sua dopo sè? e se lo numero delli mesi suoi sarà ammezzato?
22 But who can teach wisdom to God, to him who is judge of those on high?	22 Or saravvi alcuno che vogli ammaestrare Iddio in scienza, il quale giudica le creature superiori?
23 And again: one person dies in the ful ness of strength, in all possible happiness and ease,	23 Questo muore robusto e sano, ricco e bene avventurato.
24 thighs padded with fat and the marrow in the bones good and moist.	24 Le budella sue sono piene di grasso, e l'ossa sue sono bagnate delle midolla.
25 Another dies in bitterness of heart, never having tasted happiness.	25 Ma l'altro muore nella amaritudine dell' anima sua senza quelle dolcezze.
26 They lie together down in the dust and the worms soon cover them both.	26 E pure insieme nella polvere dormiranno,
27 Oh, I know what is in your minds, what you so spiteful y think about me!	27 Certo io hoe conosciuto li vostri pensieri, e le sentenze contro a me malvagie.
28 'What has become of the great lord's house,' you say, 'where is the tent where the wicked used tolive?'	28 E certo voi dite: dov'è la casa del principe? e dove sono li tabernacoli delli malvagi?
29 Have you never questioned people who travel, do you not understand the testimony they give:	29 Addomandate ciascuno delli viandanti, questa medesima cosa intenderete lui conoscere.
30 on the day of disaster, the wicked is spared, on the day of retribution, he is kept safe?	30 Perciò che nel dì della perdizione sarae servato lo rio, e al di del furore sarae menato.
31 And who is there then to reproach him for his deeds and to pay him back for the things he has done?	31 Chi reprenderà dinanzi a lui la sua via? e chi renderae (dinanzi) a lui quello ch' elli fece?
32 He is carried away to the cemetery, and a watch is kept at his tomb.	32 Alli sepolcri sarae menato, e nella dannazione delli morti vegghierae.
33 The clods of the ravine lie easy on him, and the whole population walk behind.	33 Dolce fue la giara del fiume infernale, e dopo sè ogni uomo trarrae, e innanzi a sè senza numero.
34 So what sense is there in your empty consolation? your answers are the left-overs of infidelity!	34 Come adunque consolate me indarno, conciosia cosa che sia dimostrato che la vostra risposta contrasta alla veritade?
