NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Break into song for my God, to the tambourine, sing in honour of the Lord, to the cymbal, let psalm andcanticle mingle for him, extol his name, invoke it!	1 Allora cantò Iudit questo cantico al Signore, dicendo:
2 For the Lord is a God who breaks battle-lines; he has pitched his camp in the middle of his people todeliver me from the hands of my oppressors.	2 Cominciate al Signore nelli timpani, cantate al Signore nelli cimbali, cantate a lui lo salmo nuovo dolcemente, fate letizia e invocate il nome suo.
3 Assyria came down from the mountains of the north, came with tens of thousands of his army. Theirmultitude blocked the ravines, their horses covered the hil s.	3 Lo Signore è quello che spezza le battaglie; lo nome suo è Signore.
4 He threatened to burn up my country, destroy my young men with the sword, dash my sucklings to theground, make prey of my little ones, carry off my maidens;	4 Lo quale pose la sua gente d'arme nel mezzo del suo popolo, acciò che ci liberasse delle mani di tutti i nostri inimici.

8 bound her hair under a turban, put on a linen gown to seduce him.	8 E lo potente di loro non fu gittato a terra dalli giovani, nè li figliuoli del sole (cioè uomini prestantissimi) lo percossero, nè li alti giganti se li fecero incontro; ma Iudit figliuola di Merari nella bellezza del suo volto sì lo disfece.
9 Her sandal ravished his eye, her beauty took his soul prisoner and the scimitar cut through his neck!	9 Però che si spogliò lo vestimento della viduità, e vestissi di vestimenti di letizia in consolazione de' figliuoli d' Israel.
10 The Persians trembled at her boldness, the Medes were daunted by her daring.	10 Unse la sua faccia di unguento, legò insieme li suoi capelli con gli ornamenti del capo suo, per ingannarlo.
11 These were struck with fear when my lowly ones raised the war cry, these were seized with terrorwhen my weak ones shouted, and when they raised their voices these gave ground.	11 Li belli [suoi] calzamenti pigliorono gli occhi suoi; la sua bellezza prese e incarcerò l'an?ma sua; con lo suo proprio pugnale li mozzò il capo.
12 The children of mere girls ran them through, pierced them like the offspring of deserters. Theyperished in the battle of my Lord!	12 Stupefatti quelli di Persia temerono molto la costanza sua, e quelli di Media la sua audacia.
13 I shal sing a new song to my God. Lord, you are great, you are glorious, wonderful y strong,unconquerable.	13 Allora gridarono ad alta voce tutti gli eserciti degli Assirii, quando apparirono li miei piccolini che si morivano di sete.
14 May your whole creation serve you! For you spoke and things came into being, you sent your breathand they were put together, and no one can resist your voice.	14 I figliuoli delle mie fanciulle sì li ferirono, e ucciserli fuggendo, come fanciulli; perirono nella battaglia dalla faccia del mio Signore.
15 Should mountains be tossed from their foundations to mingle with the waves, should rocks melt likewax before your face, to those who fear you, you would stil be merciful.	15 Cantiamo lo inno al Signore; cantiamo al nostro Iddio uno inno nuovo.
16 A little thing indeed is a sweetly smel ing sacrifice, stil less the fat burned for you in burnt offering; butwhoever fears the Lord is great for ever.	16 Signore, tu sei grande signoreggiatore, e preclaro nella tua virtù; lo qual niuno lo puote superare.
17 Woe to the nations who rise against my race! The Lord Almighty wil punish them on judgement day.He will send fire and worms in their flesh and they wil weep with pain for evermore.	17 A te serva ogni creatura tua; però che tu dicesti, e sono fatte le cose; mandasti lo tuo spirito, e sono create; e non è chi faccia resistenza al tuo comandamento.
18 When they reached Jerusalem they fel on their faces before God and, once the people had beenpurified, they presented their burnt offerings, voluntary offerings and gifts.	18 Li monti si moveranno dalli fondamenti con l'acque; le pietre si faranno molli come la cera dinanzi dalla faccia tua.
19 Al Holofernes' property given her by the people, and the canopy she herself had stripped from hisbed, Judith vowed to God as a dedicated offering.	19 Quelli ti temono, saranno grandi appo te in tutte le cose.
20 For three months the people gave themselves up to rejoicings in front of the Temple in Jerusalem,where Judith stayed with them.	20 Guai alle genti che si leveranno contro alla mia generazione; però che lo Signore onnipotente si vendicherà in loro; nel dì del giudizio visiterà loro.
21 When this was over, everyone returned home. Judith went back to Bethulia and lived on her property;as long as she lived, she enjoyed a great reputation throughout the country.	21 Però ch' egli darà lo fuoco e li vermi nelle carni loro, acciò che s' abbrucino, e sentino persino in sempiterno.
22 She had many suitors, but al her days, from the time her husband Manasseh died and was gatheredto his people, she never gave herself to another man.	22 E fatto è dopo questo; tutto il popolo dopo la vittoria venne in Ierusalem per adorare il Signore; e subito che furono mondati, offersero gli olocausti e li voti e le sue proferte.
23 Her fame spread more and more, the older she grew in her husband's house; she lived to the age ofone hundred and five. She emancipated her maid, then died in Bethulia and was buried in the cave whereManasseh her husband lay.	23 E Iudit tutte l'arme belliche di Oloferne, le quali diede a lei il popolo, e il padiglione sottilissimo che lei tolse, diede in esclusione di dimenticanza.
24 The House of Israel mourned her for seven days. Before her death she had distributed her propertyamong her own relations and those of her husband Manasseh.	24 E lo popolo era lieto secondo la faccia dei santi; e per tre mesi la letizia di questa vittoria fu celebrata con Iudit.
25 Never again during the lifetime of Judith, nor indeed for a long time after her death, did anyone troublethe Israelites.	25 E dopo quelli ognuno tornò al luogo suo proprio; e Iudit fu fatta (molto) grande in Betulia, ed era più famosa di tutta la terra d'Israel.
	26 Ed era congiunta con la virtù della castità, sì che non conobbe uomo tutto il tempo della vita sua, dopo la morte di Manasse suo marito..
	27 E andava nelli di delle feste con grande gloria.
	28 E abitò nella casa del suo marito cento e cinque anni; e lasciò Abra serva sua libera; e morì e fu sepolta in Betulia.
	29 E tutto il popolo la pianse sette dì.
	30 In tutto il tempo della vita sua non fu chi perturbasse Israel, e dopo la sua morte molti anni.
	31 E lo di della festività di questa vittoria sì è computato dagli Ebrei nel numero de' dì santi, ed è venerato dalli Giudei da quello tempo persino al presente di d' oggi.
