NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 When the men who were stil in their tents heard the news they were appal ed.	1 Al enterarse de la noticia, los que estaban en el campamento quedaron fuera de sí por lo ocurrido.
2 Panic-stricken and trembling, no two of them could keep together, the rout was complete, with oneaccord they fled along every track across the plain or through the mountains.	2 El terror y el pánico se apoderaron de ellos, y ni un solo hombre permaneció al lado de su compañero; todos se desbandaron, escapando apresuradamente por todos los senderos de la llanura y de la montaña.
3 The men who had been bivouacking in the mountains round Bethulia were fleeing too. Then al theIsraelite warriors charged down on them.	3 También se dieron a la fuga los que estaban apostados en la montaña alrededor de Betulia; y todos los israelitas capaces de empuñar las armas se precipitaron sobre ellos.
4 Uzziah sent messengers to Betomasthaim, Bebai, Choba, Kola, throughout the whole territory of Israel,to inform them of what had happened and to urge them al to hurl themselves on the enemy and annihilate them.	4 Ozías envió mensajeros a Betomestaim, a Bebai, a Jobai y a Colá, y a todo el territorio de Israel, para anunciar lo sucedido, a fin de que todos acometieran contra los enemigos hasta aniquilarlos.
5 As soon as the Israelites heard the news, they fel on them as one man and massacred them al theway to Choba. The men of Jerusalem and the entire mountain country also ral ied to them, once they had beeninformed of the events in the enemy camp. Then the men of Gilead and Galilee attacked them on the flank andstruck at them fiercely till they neared Damascus and its territory.	5 Cuando la noticia llegó a los demás israelitas, todos, como un solo hombre, cayeron sobre ellos y los arrasaron hasta Jobai. También acudieron los de Jerusalén y los de toda la montaña, porque ya se había enterado de lo ocurrido en el campamento. Además, los de Galaad y los de Galilea los acometieron por los flancos, causándoles un gran estrago, hasta más allá de Damasco y sus fronteras.
6 Al the other inhabitants of Bethulia fel on the Assyrian camp and looted it to their great profit.	6 Mientras tanto, los demás habitantes de Betulia irrumpieron en el campamento asirio y lo saquearon, obteniendo un riquísimo botín.
7 The Israelites returning from the slaughter seized what was left. The hamlets and vil ages of themountain country and the plain also captured a great deal of booty, since there were vast stores of it.	7 Los otros israelitas, por su parte, al volver de la matanza, se apoderaron del resto; y lo mismo hicieron los habitantes de los poblados y caseríos, tanto los de la montaña como los de la llanura: todos se apoderaron de abundantes despojos, porque los había en cantidades fabulosas.
8 Joakim the high priest and the entire Council of Elders of Israel, who were in Jerusalem, came to gazeon the benefits that the Lord had lavished on Israel and to see Judith and congratulate her.	8 El sumo sacerdote Joaquím y los ancianos del pueblo de Israel que habitaban en Jerusalén vinieron para contemplar los beneficios con que Dios había colmado a Israel, y también para ver a Judit y saludarla.
9 On coming to her house, they blessed her with one accord, saying: You are the glory of Jerusalem!You are the great pride of Israel! You are the highest honour of our race!	9 Al verla, todos a unas, la elogiaron y le dijeron: «¡Tú eres la gloria de Jerusalén, tú el gran orgullo de Israel, tú el insigne honor de nuestra raza!
10 By doing all this with your own hand you have deserved wel of Israel, and God has approved whatyou have done. May you be blessed by the Lord Almighty in al the days to come! And the people al said,'Amen!'	10 Al realizar todo esto con tu propia mano, has hecho un gran bien a Israel, y Dios ha aprobado tu obra. Que el Señor todopoderoso te bendiga para siempre». Y todo el pueblo dijo: «¡Amén!».
11 The people looted the camp for thirty days. They gave Judith the tent of Holofernes, al his silver plate,his divans, his drinking bowls and all his furniture. She took this, loaded her mule, harnessed her carts andheaped the things into them.	11 El pueblo se entregó al saqueo del campamento durante treinta días. Asignaron a Judit la carpa de Holofernes, con toda su vajilla de plata, sus lechos, sus recipientes y todo su mobiliario. Ella tomó esas cosas, cargó su mula, enganchó sus carros y amontonó todo encima.
12 Al the women of Israel, hurrying to see her, formed choirs of dancers in her honour. Judith tookwands of vine-leaves in her hand and distributed them to the women who accompanied her;	12 Todas las mujeres de Israel acudieron a verla y a elogiarla, y algunas de ellas formaron un coro de danzas en su honor. Judit, tomó en sus manos unas guirnaldas y las distribuyó entre las que las rodeaban.
13 she and her companions put on wreaths of olive. Then she took her place at the head of theprocession and led the women as they danced. Al the men of Israel, armed and garlanded, followed them,singing hymns.	13 Luego ella y sus compañeras se coronaron con ramos de olivo, y ella, al frente de todo el pueblo, dirigía las danzas corales de todas las mujeres. Al mismo tiempo, los hombres de Israel, con sus armas y ceñidos de coronas, la seguían entonando himnos de alabanza.
14 With all Israel round her, Judith broke into this song of thanksgiving and the whole people sang thishymn:	14 Entonces Judit entonó este canto de acción de gracias en presencia de todo Israel, y todo el pueblo coreó su canto.
