1 So the war dragged on between the House of Saul and the House of David, but David grew steadilystronger and the House of Saul steadily weaker.	1 La guerra tra la casa di Saul e la casa di Davide fu lunga, ma Davide diventava sempre più forte, mentre la casa di Saul si indeboliva sempre di più.
2 The sons born to David at Hebron were: his first-born Amnon, by Ahinoam of Jezreel;	2 Davide ebbe dei figli a Ebron: il primogenito fu Amnòn di Achinoàm di Izreèl;
3 his second Chileab, by Abigail widow of Nabal of Carmel; the third Absalom son of Maacah, daughter ofTalmai king of Geshur;	3 il secondogenito Kileàb di Abigail, già moglie di Nabal da Carmel; il terzo Assalonne, figlio di Maaca, figlia di Talmài, re di Ghesùr;
4 the fourth Adonijah son of Haggith; the fifth Shephatiah son of Abital;	4 il quarto Adonia, figlio di Agghìt; il quinto Sefatìa, figlio di Abitàl;
5 the sixth Ithream, by David's wife, Eglah. These were born to David at Hebron.	5 il sesto Itreàm di Eglà, moglie di Davide. Questi nacquero a Davide in Ebron.
6 This is what took place during the war between the House of Saul and the House of David. Abner tookcomplete control in the House of Saul.	6 Durante la guerra tra la casa di Saul e la casa di Davide, Abner acquistava autorità nella casa di Saul.
7 Now, there was a concubine of Saul's called Rizpah daughter of Aiah, and Abner took her. 8 At these words of Ishbaal, Abner flew into a rage. 'Am I a dog's head?' he shouted. 'Here am I, ful offaithful love towards the House of Saul your father, his brothers and his friends, not leaving you to the hands ofDavid, and now you find fault with me over a woman!	8 Abner, adiratosi fortemente per le parole di Is-Baal, disse: "Sono forse la testa di un cane di Giuda, io? Ora che uso bontà con la casa di Saul tuo padre, verso i suoi fratelli e verso i suoi amici e non ti consegno nelle mani di Davide, proprio ora vieni a chiedere conto a me della colpa con quella donna?
9 May God bring unnameable il s on Abner, and worse ones, too, if I do not bring about what Yahweh hassworn to David:	9 Dio faccia così ad Abner e peggio ancora, se io non farò per Davide come il Signore gli ha giurato:
10 to take the sovereignty from the House of Saul, and establish David's throne over Israel as well asJudah, from Dan to Beersheba!'	10 trasferire il regno dalla casa di Saul e stabilire il trono di Davide su Israele e su Giuda da Dan fino a Bersabea".
11 Ishbaal dared not say a single word to Abner in reply, as he was afraid of him.	11 Is-Baal non poté più rispondere una parola ad Abner per il timore che aveva di lui.
12 Abner sent messengers on his own behalf to say to David, '. . . and furthermore, come to anagreement with me and I wil give you my support to win al Israel over to you.'	12 Allora Abner mandò ambasciatori a Davide per dire: "Di chi è il paese?". Cioè: "Fa' alleanza con me. Ecco, la mia mano sarà con te per riportarti tutto Israele".
13 'Very wel ,' David said, 'I wil come to an agreement with you. I impose one condition however; you wilnot be admitted to my presence unless you bring me Michal, Saul's daughter, when you come to see me.'	13 Davide rispose: "Bene! Io farò alleanza con te! Ma un'unica cosa ti chiedo: cioè, non potrai vedermi, se prima non mi condurrai Mikal, figlia di Saul, quando verrai alla mia presenza".
14 David then sent messengers to say to Ishbaal son of Saul, 'Give me back my wife Michal, whom Iacquired for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.'	14 Così Davide mandò messaggeri a Is-Baal, figlio di Saul, per dire: "Restituisci mia moglie Mikal che mi acquistai per cento prepuzi dei Filistei".
15 So Ishbaal sent for her to be taken from her husband Paltiel son of Laish.	15 Is-Baal mandò a prenderla presso suo marito, Paltiel, figlio di Lais.
16 Her husband set off with her and fol owed her, weeping as he went, as far as Bahurim; but Abner saidto him, 'Go back!' and he went.	16 Suo marito andò con lei e la seguì, piangendo continuamente fino a Bacurim. Allora Abner gli disse: "Vattene, torna indietro!". Quello se ne andò.
17 Now Abner conferred with the elders of Israel. 'For a long time now,' he said, 'you have wanted Davidas your king.	17 Abner tenne questo discorso con gli anziani d'Israele: "Da tempo stavate chiedendo Davide come vostro re.
18 Now you must take action, since Yahweh has said of David, "By the hand of my servant David I shaldeliver my people Israel from the clutches of the Philistines and al their enemies." '	18 Ora mettetevi all'opera, perché il Signore ha detto a Davide: "Con la sua mano Davide, mio servo, salverà il mio popolo Israele dal potere dei Filistei e dal potere di tutti i suoi nemici".
19 Abner also spoke to the men of Benjamin and then went to Hebron to tel David everything that hadbeen agreed by Israel and the House of Benjamin.	19 Abner parlò anche a Beniamino e poi andò egli stesso a riferire a Davide a Ebron quanto era stato approvato da Israele e da tutta la casa di Beniamino.
20 Abner, accompanied by twenty men, came to David at Hebron, and David held a feast for Abner andthe men who were with him.	20 Abner giunse presso Davide a Ebron con venti uomini e Davide fece un convito per Abner e per gli uomini che erano con lui.
21 Abner then said to David, 'I must get up and go. I am going to rally al Israel to my lord the king, so thatthey will make an alliance with you, and you wil reign over al that you desire.' So David al owed Abner to go,and he went unmolested.	21 Abner disse a Davide: "Orsù, andrò e radunerò presso il re, mio signore, tutto Israele. Essi faranno alleanza con te, e tu diventerai re su tutti secondo il tuo desiderio". Poi Davide congedò Abner, che se ne andò in pace.
22 David's retainers were just then coming back with Joab from a raid, bringing a great quantity of bootywith them. Abner was no longer with David at Hebron, since David had allowed him to go, and he had goneunmolested.	22 Ma ecco ritornare gli uomini di Davide e Ioab da una scorreria, riportando con sé una massa di preda, quando Abner non era più con Davide a Ebron, perché era stato congedato e se n'era andato in pace.
23 When Joab and the whole company with him had arrived, Joab was told, 'Abner son of Ner has beento the king, and the king has al owed Abner to go away unmolested.'	23 All'arrivo di Ioab e di tutto il suo esercito ci fu chi informò Ioab così: "E' venuto Abner, figlio di Ner, dal re, che l'ha rimandato ed egli se ne è andato in pace".
24 Joab then went to the king and said, 'What have you done? Abner comes to you and you let him goaway and now he has gone-why?	24 Allora Ioab si presentò al re e disse: "Che cosa hai fatto? Ecco, è venuto Abner da te; perché l'hai congedato ed egli è potuto ripartire?
25 You know Abner son of Ner! He came to trick you, to discover your every move, to find out what youare doing.'	25 Conosci Abner, figlio di Ner: è venuto per trarti in inganno, per spiare le tue mosse e per saper tutto quello che stai facendo".
26 Joab left David's presence and sent messengers after Abner and these, unknown to David, broughthim back from the storage-wel at Sirah.	26 Ioab, partito dalla presenza di Davide, mandò messaggeri dietro ad Abner, i quali lo fecero tornare indietro dalla cisterna di Sira, all'insaputa di Davide.
27 When Abner reached Hebron, Joab took him aside in the town-gate, as if to have a quiet word withhim, and there struck him a mortal blow in the bel y to avenge the blood of his brother Asahel.	27 Quando Abner ritornò a Ebron, Ioab lo trasse all'interno della porta per parlare con lui in segreto e subito lo colpì al ventre e lo uccise per vendicare il sangue di Asaèl, suo fratello.
28 Afterwards, when David heard of this, he said, 'I and my kingdom are for ever innocent before Yahwehof the blood of Abner son of Ner;	28 Davide, saputa la cosa più tardi, esclamò: "Sono innocente io e il mio regno davanti al Signore in perpetuo del sangue di Abner, figlio di Ner.
29 may it fal on the head of Joab and on al his family! May the House of Joab never be free of menafflicted with haemorrhage or a virulent skin-disease, whose strength is in the distaff, who fall by the sword, wholack food.'	29 Ricada esso sulla testa di Ioab e su tutta la casa di suo padre! Non manchi mai nella casa di Ioab chi soffra di gonorrea e di lebbra, chi maneggi il fuso, chi cada di spada e chi sia privo di pane".
30 (Joab and his brother Abishai had murdered Abner because he killed their brother Asahel at the battleof Gibeon.)	30 Ioab e suo fratello Abisài trucidarono Abner, perché aveva ucciso Asaèl, loro fratello, nella battaglia di Gabaon.
31 David then said to Joab and the whole company with him, 'Tear your clothes, put on sackcloth, andmourn over Abner,' and King David walked behind the bier.	31 Davide ordinò a Ioab e a tutto il popolo che era con lui: "Stracciatevi le vesti, cingetevi di sacco e fate lutto davanti ad Abner". Anche il re Davide andava dietro il feretro.
32 They buried Abner at Hebron, and the king wept aloud on his grave, and the people al wept too.	32 Seppellirono Abner a Ebron. Il re pianse ad alta voce sulla tomba di Abner e anche tutto il popolo pianse.
33 The king made this lament over Abner: Should Abner have died as a brute dies?	33 Il re fece un lamento funebre su Abner dicendo: "Abner doveva morire come muore uno stolto?
34 Your hands were not tied, your feet not chained; you fel as a man falls at the hands of criminals. Andal the people wept for him louder than ever.	34 Le tue mani non furono legate, e i tuoi piedi non furono stretti in catene! Come si cade per mano di malfattori, sei caduto!". Tutto il popolo pianse di nuovo su di lui.
35 The people then al tried to persuade David to have some food while it was still daylight, but Davidswore this oath, 'May God bring unnameable il s on me, and worse il s, too, if I taste bread or anything whateveruntil the sun is down!'	35 Poi tutto il popolo andò per invitare Davide a prendere cibo, quando era ancora giorno, ma Davide giurò: "Così mi faccia Dio e peggio ancora, se prenderò pane o qualche altra cosa prima del tramonto del sole".
36 Al the people took note of this and it pleased them; indeed, everything the king did pleased thepeople.	36 Tutto il popolo venne a saperlo e ne rimase contento; così come ogni cosa fatta dal re piaceva a tutto il popolo.
37 That day, al the people and al Israel understood that the king had had no part in the murder of Abnerson of Ner.	37 Così tutto il popolo e tutto Israele capì in quel giorno che non era stata provocata dal re l'uccisione di Abner, figlio di Ner.
38 The king said to his retainers, 'Do you not realise that a prince, a great man, has fal en in Israel today?	38 Poi il re disse ai suoi uomini: "Non sapete che un principe e un grande è caduto oggi in Israele?
39 I, though anointed king, am weak at present, and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too strong forme. May Yahweh repay the criminal as his crime deserves!'	39 Io oggi sono debole, benché consacrato re, mentre questi uomini, i figli di Zeruià, sono più duri di me. Ripaghi il Signore il malfattore secondo la sua malizia".
