NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 At this Joseph threw himself on his father's face, covering it with tears and kisses.	1 La quale cosa vedendo, Iosef si gittoe sopra la faccia del padre suo, piangendo e basciando lui.
2 Then Joseph ordered the doctors in his service to embalm his father. The doctors embalmed Israel,	2 E comandò alli medici, suoi servi, che delli aromatici condissero lo corpo del padre suo.
3 and it took them forty days, for embalming takes forty days to complete. The Egyptians mourned himfor seventy days.	3 I quali, compiuti li comandamenti, trapassarono quaranta dì; in verità questo costume era de corpi morti conditi; e pianser lui quelli d'Egitto LXX dì.
4 When the period of mourning for him was over, Joseph said to Pharaoh's household, 'If you have anyaffection for me, see that this message reaches Pharaoh's ears,	4 E compiuto lo tempo del pianto, favello Iosef alla famiglia di Faraone, e disse: s' io ho trovato grazia nel cospetto vostro, favellate nelle orecchie di Faraone.
5 "My father put me under oath, saying: I am about to die. In the tomb which I dug for myself in Canaan, that is where you are to bury me. So may I have leave to go up and bury my father, and then come back?" '	5 Imperciò che lo padre mio scongiurò me, dicente: certamente io muoio; nel sepolcro mio, ch' io cavai a me nella terra Canaan, seppellirai me. Adunque io anderoe, e seppelliroe lo padre mio, e ritorneroe.
6 Pharaoh replied, 'Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear to do.'	6 E disse a lui Faraone: va, e seppellisci lo padre tuo, siccome tu giurasti.
7 Joseph went up to bury his father, and with him went all Pharaoh's officials, the dignitaries of hispalace and al the dignitaries of Egypt,	7 Il quale andando, andarono con lui tutti li vecchi della casa di Faraone, e tutti gli maggiori del nascimento della terra d'Egitto;
8 as wel as all Joseph's family, his brothers and his father's family. The only people they left behind inGoshen were those unfit to travel, and their flocks and cattle.	8 e la casa di Iosef colli fratelli suoi, sanza li fanciulli e le greggie e l'armenta, li quali lasciarono nella terra Gessen.
9 Chariots and horsemen went up with him too; it was a very large retinue.	9 E sì ebbe nel suo accompagnamento carri e cavalli; e fatta è la compagnia non piccola.
10 On arriving at Goren-ha-Atad, which is across the Jordan, they there held a long and solemnlamentation, and Joseph observed seven days' mourning for his father.	10 E vennero all'area di Atad, la quale è posta di là dal Giordano; dove celebrando le es quie con grande pianto e forte, compierono sette dì.
11 When the Canaanites, the local inhabitants, witnessed the mourning at Goren-ha-Atad, they said,'This is a solemn act of mourning by the Egyptians,' which is why the place was given the name Abel-Mizraim-itis across the Jordan.	11 La quale cosa quando la viddero li abita tori di Canaan, dissero: grande pianto è questo d'Egitto. Ed imperciò appellarono lo nome di quello luogo PIANTO DELLO EGITTO.
12 His sons did what he had ordered them to do for him.	12 Feceno adunque gli figliuoli di Iacob, siccome egli avea comandato loro.
13 His sons carried him to Canaan and buried him in the cave in the field at Machpelah, facing Mamre,which Abraham had bought from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site of his own.	13 E portanti lui nella terra Canaan, seppelli rono lui nella spelonca doppia, la quale conperò Abraam col campo, in possessione di sepolcro, da Efron Eteo contra la faccia di Mambre.
14 Then Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers and all those who had come up with him to bury hisfather.	14 Tornato è Iosef in Egitto coi fratelli suoi e con ogni compagnia, seppellito lo padre.
15 Seeing that their father was dead, Joseph's brothers said, 'What if Joseph intends to treat us asenemies and pay us back for al the wrong we did him?'	15 Lo quale morto, tementi li fratelli suoi (e con tutti i fratelli) insieme favellarono: ne per avventura e' si ricordi della ingiuria ch' egli hae sostenuta, e renda a noi male d'ogni cosa che noi facemmo!
16 So they sent this message to Joseph: 'Before your father died, he gave us this order:	16 E mandarono a lui dicendo: lo padre tuo comandò a noi, che se egli morisse,
17 "You are to say to Joseph: Now please forgive the crime and faults of your brothers and al thewrong they did you." So now please forgive the crime of the servants of your father's God.' Joseph wept at themessage they sent to him.	17 che queste sue parole a te dicessimo: io ti prego che tu ti dimentichi la fellonia delli fratelli tuoi, e del peccato e della malizia la quale adoperarono in te: noi in verità ti preghiamo, che al servo di Dio tuo padre tu perdoni questa iniquità. Le quali cose udite, pianse Iosef.
18 Then his brothers went to him themselves and, throwing themselves at his feet, said, 'Take us asyour slaves!'	18 E vennero a lui li fratelli suoi; ed inchinati nella terra l'adorarono, e dissero: servi tuoi siamo.
19 But Joseph replied, 'Do not be afraid; is it for me to put myself in God's place?	19 A quali quegli respuose: non temete; possiamo noi refiutare la volontà di Dio?
20 The evil you planned to do me has by God's design been turned to good, to bring about the presentresult: the survival of a numerous people.	20 Voi pensaste di me male; e Iddio ritorno quello in bene, acciò ch' egli esaltasse me, siccome nelle cose presente voi vedete, e faccia salvi molti popoli.
21 So there is no need to be afraid; I shall provide for you and your dependants.' In this way hereassured them by speaking affectionately to them.	21 Non temete; io pascerò voi e li figliuoli vostri. E consolò loro, e lusingolli, e umilmente fa vello loro.
22 So Joseph stayed in Egypt with his father's family; and Joseph lived a hundred and ten years.	22 E abitò in Egitto con ogni casa del padre suo; e vivette CX anni, e vide li figliuoli d'Efraim insino alla terza generazione. E li figliuoli di Machir, figliuolo di Manasse, nati sono in le ginocchia di Iosef.
23 Joseph saw the third generation of Ephraim's line, as also the children of Machir son of Manasseh,who were born on Joseph's lap.	23 Le quali cose trapassate, favellò alli fratelli suoi: dopo la morte mia Iddio vi visiterà, e farà voi dispartire da questa terra, e andare alla terra la quale giurò ad Abraam ed Isaac e Iacob.
24 At length Joseph said to his brothers, 'I am about to die; but God wil be sure to remember you kindlyand take you out of this country to the country which he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.'	24 E conciosia cosa ch' egli iscongiurasse loro, e dicesse: Iddio visiterà voi, e portate con esso voi l'ossa mie di questo luogo (quando io sarò morto)
25 And Joseph put Israel's sons on oath, saying, 'When God remembers you with kindness, be sure totake my bones away from here.'	25 compiuti che sono CX anni della vita sua, mori; e condito delli aromati, riposto è in lo loculo in Egitto.
26 Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten; he was embalmed and laid in a coffin in Egypt.
