1 As they pressed their attack on Israel, with the Israelites fleeing before them and falling mortally wounded on Mount Gilboa,	1 E i Filistei combatteano contro ad Israel; e quelli d' Israel fuggirono dinanzi al cospetto de' Filistei; e cadeano morti nel monte di Gelboe.
2 the Philistines pursued Saul and his sons closely, and slew Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, sons of Saul.	2 E i Filistei fecero impeto in Saul e nei suoi figliuoli; e uccisero Ionata, Abinadab e Melchisua, suoi figliuoli.
3 The battle raged around Saul, and the archers hit him; he was pierced through the abdomen.	3 E tutto il pondo della battaglia fu convertito in Saul; e seguitaronlo uomini saettatori, e fue gravemente ferito da loro.
4 Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword and run me through, lest these uncircumcised come and make sport of me." But his armor-bearer, badly frightened, refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell upon it.	4 E Saul disse al suo scudiere: tra' fuori il tuo coltello e uccidimi, acciò che non vegnano questi incirconcisi, e uccidanmi e facciano strazio di me. E nol volse uccidere il suo scudiere, però ch' egli era troppo isbigottito di paura; onde che Saul tolse il suo coltello, e lasciovvisi cadere suso (e morì con esso lui).
5 When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell upon his sword and died with him.	5 E avendo veduto questo, il suo scudiere, che Saul era morto, lasciossi cadere sopra il suo coltello, e morì con lui.
6 Thus Saul, his three sons, and his armor-bearer died together on that same day.	6 Ond' è morto Saul, e tre suoi figliuoli, e il suo scudiere, e tutti gli uomini suoi in quel dì.
7 When the Israelites on the slope of the valley and those along the Jordan saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they too abandoned their cities and fled. Then the Philistines came and lived in those cities.	7 E veggendo i figliuoli d' Israel, i quali erano dall'altra parte della valle e oltre il fiume Giordano, ch' erano fuggiti gli uomini d' Israel, e che era morto Saul e i suoi figliuoli, lasciarono le loro cittadi, e fuggirono; e vennero i Filistei, e abitarono ivi.
8 The day after the battle the Philistines came to strip the slain, and found Saul and his three sons lying on Mount Gilboa.	8 E fatto l'altro dì, vennero i Filistei per spogliare i morti, e trovarono Saul e' tre suoi figliuoli giacere nel monte Gelboe.
9 They cut off Saul's head and stripped him of his armor, and then sent the good news throughout the land of the Philistines to their idols and to the people.	9 E tagliarono il capo a Saul, e ispogliaronlo delle (sue vestimenta e delle) sue armi, e mandaronle per la terra de' Filistei dintorno, che s' annunziasse nel tempio degl' idoli e ai popoli.
10 They put his armor in the temple of Astarte, but impaled his body on the wall of Bethshan.	10 E puosero l'armi sue nel tempio di Astarot, e il suo corpo impiccarono nel muro di Betsan.
11 When the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,	11 E udito gli abitatori di Iabes e di Galaad tutto quello che i Filistei aveano fatto a Saul,
12 all their warriors set out, and after marching throughout the night, removed the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and brought them to Jabesh, where they cremated them.	12 levaronsi tutti gli uomini fortissimi, andarono tutta notte e tolsero il corpo di Saul e li corpi dei figliuoli del muro di Betsan, e vènnersene a Iabes, e ivi li arsono.
13 Then they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and fasted for seven days.	13 E tolseno l'ossa loro, e seppellîrle nel bosco di Iabes, e digiunarono VII dì.
