Proverbs 9

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	VULGATA
1 Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven columns;	1 Sapientia ædificavit sibi domum : excidit columnas septem.
2 She has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her table.	2 Immolavit victimas suas, miscuit vinum, et proposuit mensam suam.
3 She has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city:	3 Misit ancillas suas ut vocarent ad arcem et ad mœnia civitatis.
4 "Let whoever is simple turn in here; to him who lacks understanding, I say,	4 Si quis est parvulus, veniat ad me. Et insipientibus locuta est :
5 Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed!	5 Venite, comedite panem meum, et bibite vinum quod miscui vobis.
6 Forsake foolishness that you may live; advance in the way of understanding.	6 Relinquite infantiam, et vivite, et ambulate per vias prudentiæ.
7 He who corrects an arrogant man earns insult; and he who reproves a wicked man incurs opprobrium.	7 Qui erudit derisorem, ipse injuriam sibi facit, et qui arguit impium, sibi maculam generat.
8 Reprove not an arrogant man, lest he hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you.	8 Noli arguere derisorem, ne oderit te : argue sapientem, et diliget te.
9 Instruct a wise man, and he becomes still wiser; teach a just man, and he advances in learning.	9 Da sapienti occasionem, et addetur ei sapientia ; doce justum, et festinabit accipere.
10 The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.	10 Principium sapientiæ timor Domini, et scientia sanctorum prudentia.
11 For by me your days will be multiplied and the years of your life increased."	11 Per me enim multiplicabuntur dies tui, et addentur tibi anni vitæ.
12 If you are wise, it is to your own advantage; and if you are arrogant, you alone shall bear it.	12 Si sapiens fueris, tibimetipsi eris ; si autem illusor, solus portabis malum.
13 The woman Folly is fickle, she is inane, and knows nothing.	13 Mulier stulta et clamosa, plenaque illecebris, et nihil omnino sciens,
14 She sits at the door of her house upon a seat on the city heights,	14 sedit in foribus domus suæ, super sellam in excelso urbis loco,
15 Calling to passers-by as they go on their straight way:	15 ut vocaret transeuntes per viam, et pergentes itinere suo :
16 "Let whoever is simple turn in here, or who lacks understanding; for to him I say,	16 Qui est parvulus declinet ad me. Et vecordi locuta est :
17 Stolen water is sweet, and bread gotten secretly is pleasing!"	17 Aquæ furtivæ dulciores sunt, et panis absconditus suavior.
18 Little he knows that the shades are there, that in the depths of the nether world are her guests!	18 Et ignoravit quod ibi sint gigantes, et in profundis inferni convivæ ejus.
