NEW AMERICAN BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
A prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, you have been our refuge through all generations.1 [Prayer Of Moses, man of God] Lord, you have been our refuge from age to age.
Before the mountains were born, the earth and the world brought forth, from eternity to eternity you are God.2 Before the mountains were born, before the earth and the world came to birth, from eternity to eternityyou are God.
But humans you return to dust, saying, "Return, you mortals!"3 You bring human beings to the dust, by saying, 'Return, children of Adam.'
A thousand years in your eyes are merely a yesterday,4 A thousand years are to you like a yesterday which has passed, like a watch of the night.
you have brought them to their end; They disappear like sleep at dawn; they are like grass that dies.5 You flood them with sleep -- in the morning they wil be like growing grass:
It sprouts green in the morning; by evening it is dry and withered.6 in the morning it is blossoming and growing, by evening it is withered and dry.
Truly we are consumed by your anger, filled with terror by your wrath.7 For we have been destroyed by your wrath, dismayed by your anger.
You have kept our faults before you, our hidden sins exposed to your sight.8 You have taken note of our guilty deeds, our secrets in the ful light of your presence.
Our life ebbs away under your wrath; our years end like a sigh.9 Al our days pass under your wrath, our lives are over like a sigh.
Seventy is the sum of our years, or eighty, if we are strong; Most of them are sorrow and toil; they pass quickly, we are all but gone.10 The span of our life is seventy years -- eighty for those who are strong -- but their whole extent isanxiety and trouble, they are over in a moment and we are gone.
Who comprehends your terrible anger? Your wrath matches the fear it inspires.11 Who feels the power of your anger, or who that fears you, your wrath?
Teach us to count our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart.12 Teach us to count up the days that are ours, and we shal come to the heart of wisdom.
Relent, O LORD! How long? Have pity on your servants!13 Come back, Yahweh! How long must we wait? Take pity on your servants.
Fill us at daybreak with your love, that all our days we may sing for joy.14 Each morning fill us with your faithful love, we shal sing and be happy all our days;
Make us glad as many days as you humbled us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.15 let our joy be as long as the time that you afflicted us, the years when we experienced disaster.
Show your deeds to your servants, your glory to their children.16 Show your servants the deeds you do, let their children enjoy your splendour!
May the favor of the Lord our God be ours. Prosper the work of our hands! Prosper the work of our hands!17 May the sweetness of the Lord be upon us, to confirm the work we have done!
