Psalms 16

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 A miktam of David. Keep me safe, O God; in you I take refuge	1 [In a quiet voice Of David] Protect me, O God, in you is my refuge.
2 I say to the Lord, you are my Lord, you are my only good.	2 To Yahweh I say, 'You are my Lord, my happiness is in none
3 Worthless are all the false gods of the land. Accursed are all who delight in them.	3 of the sacred spirits of the earth.' They only take advantage of al who love them.
4 They multiply their sorrows who court other gods. Blood libations to them I will not pour out, nor will I take their names upon my lips.	4 People flock to their teeming idols. Never shal I pour libations to them! Never take their names on mylips.
5 LORD, my allotted portion and my cup, you have made my destiny secure.	5 My birthright, my cup is Yahweh; you, you alone, hold my lot secure.
6 Pleasant places were measured out for me; fair to me indeed is my inheritance.	6 The measuring-line marks out for me a delightful place, my birthright is al I could wish.
7 I bless the LORD who counsels me; even at night my heart exhorts me.	7 I bless Yahweh who is my counsel or, even at night my heart instructs me.
8 I keep the LORD always before me; with the Lord at my right, I shall never be shaken.	8 I keep Yahweh before me always, for with him at my right hand, nothing can shake me.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, my soul rejoices; my body also dwells secure,	9 So my heart rejoices, my soul delights, my body too wil rest secure,
10 For you will not abandon me to Sheol, nor let your faithful servant see the pit.	10 for you wil not abandon me to Sheol, you cannot al ow your faithful servant to see the abyss.
11 You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in your presence, the delights at your right hand forever.	11 You wil teach me the path of life, unbounded joy in your presence, at your right hand delight for ever.
