1 After Solomon finished building the temple of the LORD, the royal palace, and everything else that he had planned,	1 La construction de la Maison de Yahvé, du palais royal et de tout ce que Salomon avait voulu bâtir, était terminée.
2 the LORD appeared to him a second time, as he had appeared to him in Gibeon.	2 Alors Yahvé apparut à Salomon une seconde fois, comme il lui était apparu à Gabaon.
3 The LORD said to him: "I have heard the prayer of petition which you offered in my presence. I have consecrated this temple which you have built; I confer my name upon it forever, and my eyes and my heart shall be there always.	3 Yahvé lui dit: “J’ai exaucé la prière et la supplication que tu as fait monter vers moi, j’ai consacré cette Maison que tu as construite pour y faire habiter mon Nom à jamais; mes yeux et mon cœur y seront toujours présents.
4 As for you, if you live in my presence as your father David lived, sincerely and uprightly, doing just as I have commanded you, keeping my statutes and decrees,	4 Si tu marches devant moi comme a marché ton père David, dans la sincérité du cœur, dans la droiture, si tu mets en pratique ce que je t’ai commandé, si tu observes mes lois et mes ordonnances,
5 I will establish your throne of sovereignty over Israel forever, as I promised your father David when I said, 'You shall always have someone from your line on the throne of Israel.'	5 j’affermirai pour toujours le trône de ta royauté en Israël comme je l’ai promis à David ton père: tu auras toujours un de tes descendants sur le trône d’Israël.
6 But if you and your descendants ever withdraw from me, fail to keep the commandments and statutes which I set before you, and proceed to venerate and worship strange gods,	6 “Mais si vous vous détournez de moi, vous et vos fils, si vous n’obéissez pas à mes commandements et à mes lois que j’ai placés devant vous, si vous allez servir d’autres dieux, si vous vous prosternez devant eux,
7 I will cut off Israel from the land I gave them and repudiate the temple I have consecrated to my honor. Israel shall become a proverb and a byword among all nations,	7 alors je supprimerai Israël du pays que je lui ai donné. Je rejetterai de devant moi la Maison que j’ai consacrée à mon Nom; Israël sera un objet de mépris et de moquerie parmi tous les peuples,
8 and this temple shall become a heap of ruins. Every passerby shall catch his breath in amazement, and ask, 'Why has the LORD done this to the land and to this temple?'	8 tout homme qui passera devant mon Temple en ruines sera dans l’étonnement et sifflera. “On dira: Pourquoi Yahvé a-t-il traité de la sorte ce pays et cette Maison?
9 Men will answer: 'They forsook the LORD, their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt; they adopted strange gods which they worshiped and served. That is why the LORD has brought down upon them all this evil.'"	9 Et voici ce que l’on répondra: Ils ont abandonné Yahvé, leur Dieu, qui avait fait sortir leurs pères du pays d’Égypte, ils se sont attachés à d’autres dieux, ils se sont prosternés devant eux et les ont servis; c’est pourquoi Yahvé a fait venir sur eux toutes ces catastrophes.”
10 After the twenty years during which Solomon built the two houses, the temple of the LORD and the palace of the king--	10 Tout le temps que Salomon construisait les deux maisons, la Maison de Yahvé et le palais royal,
11 Hiram, king of Tyre, supplying Solomon with all the cedar wood, fir wood, and gold he wished--King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.	11 Hiram, roi de Tyr, avait fourni à Salomon des bois de cèdre et de cyprès, et de l’or, autant qu’il en voulait; au terme de ces 20 années, le roi Salomon donna à Hiram 20 villes en Galilée.
12 Hiram left Tyre to see the cities Solomon had given him, but was not satisfied with them.	12 Hiram quitta Tyr pour voir les villes que Salomon lui donnait; très déçu, il dit à Salomon:
13 So he said, "What are these cities you have given me, my brother?" And he called them the land of Cabul, as they are called to this day.	13 “Quelles sont ces villes que tu m’as données là, mon frère?” Et il les appela “Pays de Kaboul”; c’est le nom qu’elles ont gardé jusqu’à ce jour.
14 Hiram, however, had sent king Solomon one hundred and twenty talents of gold.	14 Hiram avait envoyé en effet à Salomon 120 talents d’or.
15 This is an account of the forced labor which King Solomon levied in order to build the temple of the LORD, his palace, Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, Gezer	15 Voici ce qui concerne la corvée, ces hommes que Salomon réquisitionna pour construire la Maison de Yahvé, son propre palais, le Millo, le mur de Jérusalem, Haçor, Méguiddo et Guézer
16 (Pharaoh, king of Egypt, had come up and taken Gezer and, after destroying it by fire and slaying all the Canaanites living in the city, had given it as dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife;	16 - (le pharaon, roi d’Égypte, était monté et s’était emparé de Guézer; il brûla la ville et tua tous les Cananéens qui l’habitaient, puis il donna la ville en dot à sa fille, femme de Salomon.
17 Solomon then rebuilt Gezer), Lower Beth-horon,	17 Salomon rebâtit donc Guézer), Beth-Horon-le-Bas,
18 Baalath, Tamar in the desert of Judah,	18 Baalat, Tamar dans le désert,
19 all his cities for supplies, cities for chariots and for horses, and whatever else Solomon decided should be built in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in the entire land under his dominion.	19 toutes les villes-entrepôts qu’avait Salomon, les villes pour les chars et les chevaux et tout ce que Salomon avait voulu construire à Jérusalem, au Liban, et dans tous les pays qui lui étaient soumis.
20 All the non-Israelite people who remained in the land, descendants of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites	20 On réquisitionna tout ce qui restait des Amorites, des Hittites, des Périsites, des Hivvites, et des Jébusites, en un mot tous ceux qui n’étaient pas Israélites.
21 whose doom the Israelites had been unable to accomplish, Solomon conscripted as forced laborers, as they are to this day.	21 Tous leurs fils qui étaient restés dans le pays, car ils n’avaient pas été exterminés par les Israélites en raison de l’anathème, Salomon les prit comme hommes de corvées et ils le sont encore aujourd’hui.
22 But Solomon enslaved none of the Israelites, for they were his fighting force, his ministers, commanders, adjutants, chariot officers, and charioteers.	22 Mais il n’imposa pas la corvée aux Israélites; ceux-ci servaient comme soldats, ils faisaient partie de la garde, ils étaient officiers, écuyers, commandants ou voltigeurs des chars.
23 The supervisors of Solomon's works who policed the people engaged in the work numbered five hundred and fifty.	23 Des contremaîtres nommés par les préfets étaient préposés aux travaux du roi: ils étaient 550 qui commandaient les travailleurs sur les chantiers.
24 As soon as Pharaoh's daughter went up from the City of David to her palace, which he had built for her, Solomon built Millo.	24 Dès que la fille du Pharaon fut montée de la cité de David à la maison que Salomon lui avait construite, il bâtit le Millo.
25 Three times a year Solomon used to offer holocausts and peace offerings on the altar which he had built to the LORD, and to burn incense before the LORD; and he kept the temple in repair.	25 Salomon offrait trois fois par an des holocaustes et des sacrifices de communion sur l’autel qu’il avait fait bâtir à Yahvé. Là il faisait fumer ses offrandes par le feu devant Yahvé, et il veillait au bon état de la Maison.
26 King Solomon also built a fleet at Ezion-geber, which is near Elath on the shore of the Red Sea in the land of Edom.	26 Le roi Salomon construisit une flotte à Ézyon-Guéber, à côté d’Élat sur le bord de la Mer Rouge, au pays d’Édom.
27 In this fleet Hiram placed his own expert seamen with the servants of Solomon.	27 Hiram envoya ses serviteurs, des matelots qui connaissaient bien la mer, pour aider les serviteurs de Salomon sur ses vaisseaux.
28 They went to Ophir, and brought back four hundred and twenty talents of gold to King Solomon.	28 Ils allèrent ainsi à Ofir où ils se procurèrent de l’or, 420 talents d’or qu’ils remirent au roi Salomon.
