1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.	1 Sucedió que por aquellos días salió un edicto de César Augusto ordenando que se empadronase todo el mundo.
2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)	2 Este primer empadronamiento tuvo lugar siendo gobernador de Siria Cirino.
3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.	3 Iban todos a empadronarse, cada uno a su ciudad.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)	4 Subió también José desde Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David, que se llama Belén, por ser él de la casa y familia de David,
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.	5 para empadronarse con María, su esposa, que estaba encinta.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.	6 Y sucedió que, mientras ellos estaban allí, se le cumplieron los días del alumbramiento,
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.	7 y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito, le envolvió en pañales y le acostó en un pesebre, porque no tenían sitio en el alojamiento.
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.	8 Había en la misma comarca unos pastores, que dormían al raso y vigilaban por turno durante la noche su rebaño.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.	9 Se les presentó el Angel del Señor, y la gloria del Señor los envolvió en su luz; y se llenaron de temor.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.	10 El ángel les dijo: «No temáis, pues os anuncio una gran alegría, que lo será para todo el pueblo:
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.	11 os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un salvador, que es el Cristo Señor;
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.	12 y esto os servirá de señal: encontraréis un niño envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre».
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,	13 Y de pronto se juntó con el ángel una multitud del ejército celestial, que alababa a Dios, diciendo:
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.	14 «Gloria a Dios en las alturas y en la tierra paz a los hombres en quienes él se complace».
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.	15 Y sucedió que cuando los ángeles, dejándoles, se fueron al cielo, los pastores se decían unos a otros: «Vayamos, pues, hasta Belén y veamos lo que ha sucedido y el Señor nos ha manifestado».
16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.	16 Y fueron a toda prisa, y encontraron a María y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.
17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.	17 Al verlo, dieron a conocer lo que les habían dicho acerca de aquel niño;
18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.	18 y todos los que lo oyeron se maravillaban de lo que los pastores les decían.
19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.	19 María, por su parte, guardaba todas estas cosas, y las meditaba en su corazón.
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.	20 Los pastores se volvieron glorificando y alabando a Dios por todo lo que habían oído y visto, conforme a lo que se les había dicho.
21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.	21 Cuando se cumplieron los ocho días para circuncidarle, se le dio el nombre de Jesús, el que le dio el ángel antes de ser concebido en el seno.
22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;	22 Cuando se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ellos, según la Ley de Moisés, llevaron a Jesús a Jerusalén para presentarle al Señor,
23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)	23 como está escrito en la Ley del Señor: Todo varón primogénito será consagrado al Señor
24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.	24 y para ofrecer en sacrificio un par de tórtolas o dos pichones, conforme a lo que se dice en la Ley del Señor.
25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.	25 Y he aquí que había en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón; este hombre era justo y piadoso, y esperaba la consolación de Israel; y estaba en él el Espíritu Santo.
26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.	26 Le había sido revelado por el Espíritu Santo que no vería la muerte antes de haber visto al Cristo del Señor.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,	27 Movido por el Espíritu, vino al Templo; y cuando los padres introdujeron al niño Jesús, para cumplir lo que la Ley prescribía sobre él,
28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,	28 le tomó en brazos y bendijo a Dios diciendo:
29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:	29 «Ahora, Señor, puedes, según tu palabra, dejar que tu siervo se vaya en paz;
30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,	30 porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;	31 la que has preparado a la vista de todos los pueblos,
32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.	32 luz para iluminar a los gentiles y gloria de tu pueblo Israel».
33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.	33 Su padre y su madre estaban admirados de lo que se decía de él.
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;	34 Simeón les bendijo y dijo a María, su madre: «Este está puesto para caída y elevación de muchos en Israel, y para ser señal de contradicción -
35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.	35 ¡y a ti misma una espada te atravesará el alma! - a fin de que queden al descubierto las intenciones de muchos corazones».
36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;	36 Había también una profetisa, Ana, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser, de edad avanzada; después de casarse había vivido siete años con su marido,
37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.	37 y permaneció viuda hasta los ochenta y cuatro años; no se apartaba del Templo, sirviendo a Dios noche y día en ayunos y oraciones.
38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.	38 Como se presentase en aquella misma hora, alababa a Dios y hablaba del niño a todos los que esperaban la redención de Jerusalén.
39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.	39 Así que cumplieron todas las cosas según la Ley del Señor, volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad de Nazaret.
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.	40 El niño crecía y se fortalecía, llenándose de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios estaba sobre él.
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.	41 Sus padres iban todos los años a Jerusalén a la fiesta de la Pascua.
42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.	42 Cuando tuvo doce años, subieron ellos como de costumbre a la fiesta
43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.	43 y, al volverse, pasados los días, el niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén, sin saberlo su padres.
44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.	44 Pero creyendo que estaría en la caravana, hicieron un día de camino, y le buscaban entre los parientes y conocidos;
45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.	45 pero al no encontrarle, se volvieron a Jerusalén en su busca.
46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.	46 Y sucedió que, al cabo de tres días, le encontraron en el Templo sentado en medio de los maestros, escuchándoles y preguntándoles;
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.	47 todos los que le oían, estaban estupefactos por su inteligencia y sus respuestas.
48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.	48 Cuando le vieron, quedaron sorprendidos, y su madre le dijo: «Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho esto? Mira, tu padre y yo, angustiados, te andábamos buscando».
49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?	49 El les dijo: «Y ¿por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que yo debía estar en la casa de mi Padre?»
50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.	50 Pero ellos no comprendieron la respuesta que les dio.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.	51 Bajó con ellos y vino a Nazaret, y vivía sujeto a ellos. Su madre conservaba cuidadosamente todas las cosas en su corazón.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.	52 Jesús progresaba en sabiduría, en estatura y en gracia ante Dios y ante los hombres.
