Apocalypse 13

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Et je me tins sur la grève de la mer. Alors je vis surgir de la mer une Bête ayant sept têtes etdix cornes, sur ses cornes dix diadèmes, et sur ses têtes des titres blasphématoires.	1 Then I saw a beast emerge from the sea: it had seven heads and ten horns, with a coronet on each ofits ten horns, and its heads were marked with blasphemous titles.
2 La Bête que je vis ressemblait à une panthère, avec les pattes comme celles d'un ours et lagueule comme une gueule de lion; et le Dragon lui transmit sa puissance et son trône et un pouvoir immense.	2 I saw that the beast was like a leopard, with paws like a bear and a mouth like a lion; the dragon hadhanded over to it his own power and his throne and his immense authority.
3 L'une de ses têtes paraissait blessée à mort, mais sa plaie mortelle fut guérie; alors,émerveillée, la terre entière suivit la Bête.	3 I saw that one of its heads seemed to have had a fatal wound but that this deadly injury had healedand the whole world had marvel ed and fol owed the beast.
4 On se prosterna devant le Dragon, parce qu'il avait remis le pouvoir à la Bête; et l'on seprosterna devant la Bête en disant: "Qui égale la Bête, et qui peut lutter contre elle?"	4 They prostrated themselves in front of the dragon because he had given the beast his authority; andthey prostrated themselves in front of the beast, saying, 'Who can compare with the beast? Who can fightagainst it?'
5 On lui donna de proférer des paroles d'orgueil et de blasphème; on lui donna pouvoir d'agirdurant 42 mois;	5 The beast was allowed to mouth its boasts and blasphemies and to be active for forty-two months;
6 alors elle se mit à proférer des blasphèmes contre Dieu, à blasphémer son nom et sa demeure,ceux qui demeurent au ciel.	6 and it mouthed its blasphemies against God, against his name, his heavenly Tent and al those whoare sheltered there.
7 On lui donna de mener campagne contre les saints et de les vaincre; on lui donna pouvoir surtoute race, peuple, langue ou nation.	7 It was allowed to make war against the saints and conquer them, and given power over every race,people, language and nation;
8 Et ils l'adoreront, tous les habitants de la terre dont le nom ne se trouve pas écrit, dès l'originedu monde, dans le livre de vie de l'Agneau égorgé.	8 and al people of the world wil worship it, that is, everybody whose name has not been written downsince the foundation of the world in the sacrificial Lamb's book of life.
9 Celui qui a des oreilles, qu'il entende!	9 Let anyone who can hear, listen:
10 Les chaînes pour qui doit être enchaîné; la mort par le glaive pour qui doit périr par le glaive!Voilà qui fonde l'endurance et la confiance des saints.	10 Those for captivity to captivity; those for death by the sword to death by the sword. This is why thesaints must have perseverance and faith.
11 Je vis ensuite surgir de la terre une autre Bête; elle avait deux cornes comme un agneau, maisparlait comme un dragon.	11 Then I saw a second beast, emerging from the ground; it had two horns like a lamb, but made anoise like a dragon.
12 Au service de la première Bête, elle en établit partout le pouvoir, amenant la terre et seshabitants à adorer cette première Bête dont la plaie mortelle fut guérie.	12 This second beast exercised al the power of the first beast, on its behalf making the world and al itspeople worship the first beast, whose deadly injury had healed.
13 Elle accomplit des prodiges étonnants: jusqu'à faire descendre, aux yeux de tous, le feu duciel sur la terre;	13 And it worked great miracles, even to calling down fire from heaven onto the earth while peoplewatched.
14 et, par les prodiges qu'il lui a été donné d'accomplir au service de la Bête, elle fourvoie leshabitants de la terre, leur disant de dresser une image en l'honneur de cette Bête qui, frappée du glaive, a reprisvie.	14 Through the miracles which it was al owed to do on behalf of the first beast, it was able to lead astraythe people of the world and persuade them to put up a statue in honour of the beast that had been wounded bythe sword and stil lived.
15 On lui donna même d'animer l'image de la Bête pour la faire parler, et de faire en sorte quefussent mis à mort tous ceux qui n'adoreraient pas l'image de la Bête.	15 It was al owed to breathe life into this statue, so that the statue of the beast was able to speak, and tohave anyone who refused to worship the statue of the beast put to death.
16 Par ses manoeuvres, tous, petits et grands, riches ou pauvres, libres et esclaves, se ferontmarquer sur la main droite ou sur le front,	16 It compel ed everyone -- smal and great alike, rich and poor, slave and citizen -- to be branded onthe right hand or on the forehead,
17 et nul ne pourra rien acheter ni vendre s'il n'est marqué au nom de la Bête ou au chiffre de sonnom.	17 and made it il egal for anyone to buy or sell anything unless he had been branded with the name ofthe beast or with the number of its name.
18 C'est ici qu'il faut de la finesse! Que l'homme doué d'esprit calcule le chiffre de la Bête, c'estun chiffre d'homme: son chiffre, c'est 666.	18 There is need for shrewdness here: anyone clever may interpret the number of the beast: it is thenumber of a human being, the number 666.
