Évangile selon Luc 15

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Cependant tous les publicains et les pécheurs s'approchaient de lui pour l'entendre.	1 The tax col ectors and sinners, however, were al crowding round to listen to him,
2 Et les Pharisiens et les scribes de murmurer: "Cet homme, disaient-ils, fait bon accueil aux pécheurs etmange avec eux!"	2 and the Pharisees and scribes complained saying, 'This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.'
3 Il leur dit alors cette parabole:	3 So he told them this parable:
4 "Lequel d'entre vous, s'il a cent brebis et vient à en perdre une, n'abandonne les 89 autres dans le désertpour s'en aller après celle qui est perdue, jusqu'à ce qu'il l'ait retrouvée?	4 'Which one of you with a hundred sheep, if he lost one, would fail to leave the ninety-nine in the desertand go after the missing one till he found it?
5 Et, quand il l'a retrouvée, il la met, tout joyeux, sur ses épaules	5 And when he found it, would he not joyful y take it on his shoulders
6 et, de retour chez lui, il assemble amis et voisins et leur dit: Réjouissez-vous avec moi, car je l'airetrouvée, ma brebis qui était perdue!	6 and then, when he got home, cal together his friends and neighbours, saying to them, "Rejoice withme, I have found my sheep that was lost."
7 C'est ainsi, je vous le dis, qu'il y aura plus de joie dans le ciel pour un seul pécheur qui se repent quepour 99 justes, qui n'ont pas besoin de repentir.	7 In the same way, I tell you, there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner repenting than overninety-nine upright people who have no need of repentance.
8 "Ou bien, quelle est la femme qui, si elle a dix drachmes et vient à en perdre une, n'allume une lampe,ne balaie la maison et ne cherche avec soin, jusqu'à ce qu'elle l'ait retrouvée?	8 'Or again, what woman with ten drachmas would not, if she lost one, light a lamp and sweep out thehouse and search thoroughly till she found it?
9 Et, quand elle l'a retrouvée, elle assemble amies et voisines et leur dit: Réjouissez-vous avec moi, carje l'ai retrouvée, la drachme que j'avais perdue!	9 And then, when she had found it, cal together her friends and neighbours, saying to them, "Rejoicewith me, I have found the drachma I lost."
10 C'est ainsi, je vous le dis, qu'il naît de la joie devant les anges de Dieu pour un seul pécheur qui serepent."	10 In the same way, I tel you, there is rejoicing among the angels of God over one repentant sinner.'
11 Il dit encore: "Un homme avait deux fils.	11 Then he said, 'There was a man who had two sons.
12 Le plus jeune dit à son père: Père, donne-moi la part de fortune qui me revient. Et le père leurpartagea son bien.	12 The younger one said to his father, "Father, let me have the share of the estate that wil come to me."So the father divided the property between them.
13 Peu de jours après, rassemblant tout son avoir, le plus jeune fils partit pour un pays lointain et ydissipa son bien en vivant dans l'inconduite.	13 A few days later, the younger son got together everything he had and left for a distant country wherehe squandered his money on a life of debauchery.
14 "Quand il eut tout dépensé, une famine sévère survint en cette contrée et il commença à sentir laprivation.	14 'When he had spent it al , that country experienced a severe famine, and now he began to feel thepinch;
15 Il alla se mettre au service d'un des habitants de cette contrée, qui l'envoya dans ses champs garderles cochons.	15 so he hired himself out to one of the local inhabitants who put him on his farm to feed the pigs.
16 Il aurait bien voulu se remplir le ventre des caroubes que mangeaient les cochons, et personne ne luien donnait.	16 And he would wil ingly have fil ed himself with the husks the pigs were eating but no one would lethim have them.
17 Rentrant alors en lui-même, il se dit: Combien de mercenaires de mon père ont du pain ensurabondance, et moi je suis ici à périr de faim!	17 Then he came to his senses and said, "How many of my father's hired men have al the food theywant and more, and here am I dying of hunger!
18 Je veux partir, aller vers mon père et lui dire: Père, j'ai péché contre le Ciel et envers toi;	18 I wil leave this place and go to my father and say: Father, I have sinned against heaven and againstyou;
19 je ne mérite plus d'être appelé ton fils, traite-moi comme l'un de tes mercenaires.	19 I no longer deserve to be cal ed your son; treat me as one of your hired men."
20 Il partit donc et s'en alla vers son père. "Tandis qu'il était encore loin, son père l'aperçut et fut pris depitié; il courut se jeter à son cou et l'embrassa tendrement.	20 So he left the place and went back to his father. 'While he was stil a long way off, his father saw himand was moved with pity. He ran to the boy, clasped him in his arms and kissed him.
21 Le fils alors lui dit: Père, j'ai péché contre le Ciel et envers toi, je ne mérite plus d'être appelé ton fils.	21 Then his son said, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to becal ed your son."
22 Mais le père dit à ses serviteurs: Vite, apportez la plus belle robe et l'en revêtez, mettez-lui un anneauau doigt et des chaussures aux pieds.	22 But the father said to his servants, "Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on hisfinger and sandals on his feet.
23 Amenez le veau gras, tuez-le, mangeons et festoyons,	23 Bring the calf we have been fattening, and kil it; we wil celebrate by having a feast,
24 car mon fils que voilà était mort et il est revenu à la vie; il était perdu et il est retrouvé! Et ils semirent à festoyer.	24 because this son of mine was dead and has come back to life; he was lost and is found." And theybegan to celebrate.
25 "Son fils aîné était aux champs. Quand, à son retour, il fut près de la maison, il entendit de la musiqueet des danses.	25 'Now the elder son was out in the fields, and on his way back, as he drew near the house, he couldhear music and dancing.
26 Appelant un des serviteurs, il s'enquérait de ce que cela pouvait bien être.	26 Cal ing one of the servants he asked what it was all about.
27 Celui-ci lui dit: C'est ton frère qui est arrivé, et ton père a tué le veau gras, parce qu'il l'a recouvré enbonne santé.	27 The servant told him, "Your brother has come, and your father has kil ed the calf we had beenfattening because he has got him back safe and sound."
28 Il se mit alors en colère, et il refusait d'entrer. Son père sortit l'en prier.	28 He was angry then and refused to go in, and his father came out and began to urge him to come in;
29 Mais il répondit à son père: Voilà tant d'années que je te sers, sans avoir jamais transgressé un seul detes ordres, et jamais tu ne m'as donné un chevreau, à moi, pour festoyer avec mes amis;	29 but he retorted to his father, "Al these years I have slaved for you and never once disobeyed anyorders of yours, yet you never offered me so much as a kid for me to celebrate with my friends.
30 et puis ton fils que voici revient-il, après avoir dévoré ton bien avec des prostituées, tu fais tuer pourlui le veau gras!	30 But, for this son of yours, when he comes back after swallowing up your property -- he and his loosewomen -- you kil the calf we had been fattening."
31 "Mais le père lui dit: Toi, mon enfant, tu es toujours avec moi, et tout ce qui est à moi est à toi.	31 'The father said, "My son, you are with me always and all I have is yours.
32 Mais il fallait bien festoyer et se réjouir, puisque ton frère que voilà était mort et il est revenu à la vie;il était perdu et il est retrouvé!"	32 But it was only right we should celebrate and rejoice, because your brother here was dead and hascome to life; he was lost and is found." '
