JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Partant de là, il vient dans le territoire de la Judée et au-delà du Jourdain, et de nouveau les foules serassemblent auprès de lui et, selon sa coutume, de nouveau il les enseignait.	1 He set out from there and went into the district of Judea (and) across the Jordan. Again crowds gathered around him and, as was his custom, he again taught them.
2 S'approchant, des Pharisiens lui demandaient: "Est-il permis à un mari de répudier sa femme?" C'étaitpour le mettre à l'épreuve.	2 The Pharisees approached and asked, "Is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife?" They were testing him.
3 Il leur répondit: "Qu'est-ce que Moïse vous a prescrit" --	3 He said to them in reply, "What did Moses command you?"
4 "Moïse, dirent-ils, a permis de rédiger un acte de divorce et de répudier."	4 They replied, "Moses permitted him to write a bill of divorce and dismiss her."
5 Alors Jésus leur dit: "C'est en raison de votre dureté de coeur qu'il a écrit pour vous cetteprescription.	5 But Jesus told them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment.
6 Mais dès l'origine de la création Il les fit homme et femme.	6 But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.
7 Ainsi donc l'homme quittera son père et sa mère,	7 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother (and be joined to his wife),
8 et les deux ne feront qu'une seule chair. Ainsi ils ne sont plus deux, mais une seule chair.	8 and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two but one flesh.
9 Eh bien! ce que Dieu a uni, l'homme ne doit point le séparer."	9 Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate."
10 Rentrés à la maison, les disciples l'interrogeaient de nouveau sur ce point.	10 In the house the disciples again questioned him about this.
11 Et il leur dit: "Quiconque répudie sa femme et en épouse une autre, commet un adultère à son égard;	11 He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her;
12 et si une femme répudie son mari et en épouse un autre, elle commet un adultère."	12 and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery."
13 On lui présentait des petits enfants pour qu'il les touchât, mais les disciples les rabrouèrent.	13 And people were bringing children to him that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.
14 Ce que voyant, Jésus se fâcha et leur dit: "Laissez les petits enfants venir à moi; ne les empêchezpas, car c'est à leurs pareils qu'appartient le Royaume de Dieu.	14 When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
15 En vérité je vous le dis: quiconque n'accueille pas le Royaume de Dieu en petit enfant, n'y entrerapas."	15 Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it."
16 Puis il les embrassa et les bénit en leur imposant les mains.	16 Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them.
17 Il se mettait en route quand un homme accourut et, s'agenouillant devant lui, il l'interrogeait: "Bonmaître, que dois-je faire pour avoir en héritage la vie éternelle?"	17 As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up, knelt down before him, and asked him, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
18 Jésus lui dit: "Pourquoi m'appelles-tu bon? Nul n'est bon que Dieu seul.	18 Jesus answered him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.
19 Tu connais les commandements: Ne tue pas, ne commets pas d'adultère, ne vole pas, ne porte pas defaux témoignage, ne fais pas de tort, honore ton père et ta mère."	19 You know the commandments: 'You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; you shall not defraud; honor your father and your mother.'"
20 "Maître --, lui dit-il, tout cela, je l'ai observé dès ma jeunesse."	20 He replied and said to him, "Teacher, all of these I have observed from my youth."
21 Alors Jésus fixa sur lui son regard et l'aima. Et il lui dit: "Une seule chose te manque: va, ce que tuas, vends-le et donne-le aux pauvres, et tu auras un trésor dans le ciel; puis, viens, suis-moi."	21 Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, "You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to (the) poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me."
22 Mais lui, à ces mots, s'assombrit et il s'en alla contristé, car il avait de grands biens.	22 At that statement his face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.
23 Alors Jésus, regardant autour de lui, dit à ses disciples: "Comme il sera difficile à ceux qui ont desrichesses d'entrer dans le Royaume de Dieu!"	23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!"
24 Les disciples étaient stupéfaits de ces paroles. Mais Jésus reprit et leur dit: "Mes enfants, comme ilest difficile d'entrer dans le Royaume de Dieu!	24 The disciples were amazed at his words. So Jesus again said to them in reply, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!
25 Il est plus facile à un chameau de passer par le trou de l'aiguille qu'à un riche d'entrer dans leRoyaume de Dieu!"	25 It is easier for a camel to pass through (the) eye of (a) needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."
26 Ils restèrent interdits à l'excès et se disaient les uns aux autres: "Et qui peut être sauvé?"	26 They were exceedingly astonished and said among themselves, "Then who can be saved?"
27 Fixant sur eux son regard, Jésus dit: "Pour les hommes, impossible, mais non pour Dieu: car tout estpossible pour Dieu."	27 Jesus looked at them and said, "For human beings it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible for God."
28 Pierre se mit à lui dire: "Voici que nous, nous avons tout laissé et nous t'avons suivi."	28 Peter began to say to him, "We have given up everything and followed you."
29 Jésus déclara: "En vérité, je vous le dis, nul n'aura laissé maison, frères, soeurs, mère, père, enfantsou champs à cause de moi et à cause de l'Evangile,	29 Jesus said, "Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the gospel
30 qui ne reçoive le centuple dès maintenant, au temps présent, en maisons, frères, soeurs, mères,enfants et champs, avec des persécutions, et, dans le monde à venir, la vie éternelle.	30 who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come.
31 Beaucoup de premiers seront derniers et les derniers seront premiers."	31 But many that are first will be last, and (the) last will be first."
32 Ils étaient en route, montant à Jérusalem; et Jésus marchait devant eux, et ils étaient dans la stupeur,et ceux qui suivaient étaient effrayés. Prenant de nouveau les Douze avec lui, il se mit à leur dire ce qui allait luiarriver:	32 They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went ahead of them. They were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. Taking the Twelve aside again, he began to tell them what was going to happen to him.
33 "Voici que nous montons à Jérusalem, et le Fils de l'homme sera livré aux grands prêtres et auxscribes; ils le condamneront à mort et le livreront aux païens,	33 "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and hand him over to the Gentiles
34 ils le bafoueront, cracheront sur lui, le flagelleront et le tueront, et après trois jours il ressuscitera."	34 who will mock him, spit upon him, scourge him, and put him to death, but after three days he will rise."
35 Jacques et Jean, les fils de Zébédée, avancent vers lui et lui disent: "Maître, nous voulons que tufasses pour nous ce que nous allons te demander."	35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you."
36 Il leur dit: "Que voulez-vous que je fasse pour vous" --	36 He replied, "What do you wish (me) to do for you?"
37 "Accorde-nous, lui dirent-ils, de siéger, l'un à ta droite et l'autre à ta gauche, dans ta gloire."	37 They answered him, "Grant that in your glory we may sit one at your right and the other at your left."
38 Jésus leur dit: "Vous ne savez pas ce que vous demandez. Pouvez-vous boire la coupe que je vaisboire et être baptisés du baptême dont je vais être baptisé?"	38 Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I drink or be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?"
39 Ils lui dirent: "Nous le pouvons." Jésus leur dit: "La coupe que je vais boire, vous la boirez, et lebaptême dont je vais être baptisé, vous en serez baptisés;	39 They said to him, "We can." Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink, you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized;
40 quant à siéger à ma droite ou à ma gauche, il ne m'appartient pas de l'accorder, mais c'est pour ceuxà qui cela a été destiné."	40 but to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to give but is for those for whom it has been prepared."
41 Les dix autres, qui avaient entendu, se mirent à s'indigner contre Jacques et Jean.	41 When the ten heard this, they became indignant at James and John.
42 Les ayant appelés près de lui, Jésus leur dit: "Vous savez que ceux qu'on regarde comme les chefsdes nations dominent sur elles en maîtres et que les grands leur font sentir leur pouvoir.	42 Jesus summoned them and said to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones make their authority over them felt.
43 Il ne doit pas en être ainsi parmi vous: au contraire, celui qui voudra devenir grand parmi vous, seravotre serviteur,	43 But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant;
44 et celui qui voudra être le premier parmi vous, sera l'esclave de tous.	44 whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all.
45 Aussi bien, le Fils de l'homme lui-même n'est pas venu pour être servi, mais pour servir et donner savie en rançon pour une multitude."	45 For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."
46 Ils arrivent à Jéricho. Et comme il sortait de Jéricho avec ses disciples et une foule considérable, lefils de Timée (Bartimée), un mendiant aveugle, était assis au bord du chemin.	46 They came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging.
47 Quand il apprit que c'était Jésus le Nazarénien, il se mit à crier: "Fils de David, Jésus, aie pitié demoi!"	47 On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me."
48 Et beaucoup le rabrouaient pour lui imposer silence, mais lui criait de plus belle: "Fils de David, aiepitié de moi!"	48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more, "Son of David, have pity on me."
49 Jésus s'arrêta et dit: "Appelez-le." On appelle l'aveugle en lui disant: "Aie confiance! lève-toi, ilt'appelle."	49 Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage; get up, he is calling you."
50 Et lui, rejetant son manteau, bondit et vint à Jésus.	50 He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.
51 Alors Jésus lui adressa la parole: "Que veux-tu que je fasse pour toi?" L'aveugle lui répondit:"Rabbouni, que je recouvre la vue!"	51 Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see."
52 Jésus lui dit: "Va, ta foi t'a sauvé." Et aussitôt il recouvra la vue et il cheminait à sa suite.	52 Jesus told him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you." Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.
