1 Il advint après cela que David battit les Philistins et les abaissa. Il prit des mains desPhilistins Gat et ses dépendances.1 After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them. From the grip of the Philistines he wrestedGath and its dependencies.
2 Puis il battit Moab, les Moabites furent asservis à David et payèrent tribut.2 He also defeated the Moabites; the Moabites became David's subjects and paid him tribute.
3 David battit Hadadézer, roi de Coba, à Hamat, alors qu'il allait établir son pouvoir sur lefleuve de l'Euphrate.3 David also defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah, which lies in the direction of Hamath, when the lattermounted an expedition to assert his rule on the River Euphrates.
4 David lui prit mille chars, 7.000 charriers et 20.000 hommes de pied, et David coupa lesjarrets de tous les attelages, il n'en garda que cent.4 David captured one thousand chariots, seven thousand charioteers and twenty thousand foot soldiersfrom him; David hamstrung al the chariot teams, keeping only a hundred of them.
5 Les Araméens de Damas vinrent au secours de Hadadézer, roi de Coba, mais David tua auxAraméens 22.000 hommes.5 The Aramaeans of Damascus came to the help of Hadadezer king of Zobah, but David kil ed twenty-two thousand of the Aramaeans.
6 Puis David établit des gouverneurs dans l'Aram de Damas, les Araméens furent asservis àDavid et payèrent tribut. Partout où allait David, Dieu lui donnait la victoire.6 David then imposed governors in Aram of Damascus, and the Aramaeans became David's subjectsand paid him tribute. Wherever David went, Yahweh gave him victory.
7 David prit les rondaches d'or que portait la garde de Hadadézer et les emporta à Jérusalem.7 David took the golden shields carried by Hadadezer's guards and brought them to Jerusalem.

Il envoya toutes sortes d'objets d'or,d'argent et de bronze;10 he sent his son Hadoram to King David to greet him and to congratulate him on having made war onHadadezer and on having defeated him, since Hadadezer was at war with Tou. He also sent al sorts of objectsmade of gold, silver and bronze,
11 le roi David les consacra aussi à Yahvé, avec l'argent et l'or qu'il avait prélevés sur toutesles nations, Edom, Moab, Ammonites, Philistins, Amaleq.11 which King David also consecrated to Yahweh, as wel as the silver and gold which he had leviedfrom al the nations, from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines and Amalek.
12 Abishaï, fils de Ceruya, battit les Edomites dans la vallée du Sel, au nombre de 18.000.12 Abishai son of Zeruiah defeated the Edomites in the Val ey of Salt -- eighteen thousand of them.
13 Il établit des gouverneurs en Edom et tous les Edomites devinrent sujets de David. Partoutoù David allait, Dieu lui donna la victoire.13 He stationed garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David's subjects. Wherever Davidwent, Yahweh gave him victory.
14 David régna sur tout Israël, faisant droit et justice à tout son peuple.14 David ruled over all Israel, administering law and justice to al his people.
15 Joab, fils de Ceruya, commandait l'armée; Yehoshaphat, fils d'Ahilud, était héraut;15 Joab son of Zeruiah was in command of the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was herald;
16 Sadoq, fils d'Ahitub, et Ahimélek, fils d'Ebyatar, étaient prêtres; Shavsha était secrétaire;16 Zadok son of Ahitub and Abiathar son of Ahimelech were priests; Shusha was secretary;
17 Benayahu, fils de Yehoyada, commandait les Kerétiens et les Pelétiens. Les fils de Davidétaient les premiers aux côtés du roi.17 Benaiah son of Jehoiada was in command of the Cherethites and Pelethites; David's sons took firstplace after the king.
