1 Joschija war acht Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und regierte einunddreißig Jahre in Jerusalem.	1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.
2 Er tat, was dem Herrn gefiel, und folgte den Wegen seines Vaters David, ohne nach rechts oder links abzuweichen.	2 He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father; and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
3 Im achten Jahr seiner Regierung, als er noch jung war, begann er, den Gott seines Vaters David zu suchen. Im zwölften Jahr fing er an, Juda und Jerusalem von den Kulthöhen, den Kultpfählen, den Schnitz- und Gussbildern zu reinigen.	3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet a boy, he began to seek the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherim, and the graven and the molten images.
4 Vor seinen Augen riss man die Altäre der Baale nieder. Er ließ die Rauchopferaltäre, die auf ihnen standen, zerschlagen, die Kultpfähle zerstören, die Schnitz- und Gussbilder zermalmen, ihren Staub auf die Gräber derer streuen, die ihnen geopfert hatten,	4 And they broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence; and he hewed down the incense altars which stood above them; and he broke in pieces the Asherim and the graven and the molten images, and he made dust of them and strewed it over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
5 und Gebeine von Priestern auf ihren Altären verbrennen. So reinigte er Juda und Jerusalem.	5 He also burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.
6 Auch in den Städten von Manasse, Efraim, Simeon bis nach Naftali	6 And in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, and as far as Naphtali, in their ruins round about,
7 riss er überall auf ihren Plätzen die Altäre nieder, zerstörte die Kultpfähle, zermalmte die Götzenbilder und zertrümmerte die Rauchopferaltäre im ganzen Land Israel. Dann kehrte er nach Jerusalem zurück.	7 he broke down the altars, and beat the Asherim and the images into powder, and hewed down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
8 Im achtzehnten Jahr seiner Regierung, während der Säuberung des Landes und des Tempels, sandte König Joschija Schafan, den Sohn Azaljas, den Stadtobersten Maaseja und den Sprecher des Königs, Joach, den Sohn des Joahas, in das Haus des Herrn, seines Gottes, um es instand setzen zu lassen.	8 Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Ma-aseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz, the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.
9 Sie kamen zum Hohenpriester Hilkija und man gab das Geld heraus, das in das Haus Gottes gebracht worden war und das die Leviten, die Wächter an den Schwellen, von Manasse, Efraim und dem ganzen übrigen Israel, von ganz Juda, Benjamin und den Einwohnern Jerusalems gesammelt hatten.	9 They came to Hilkiah the high priest and delivered the money that had been brought into the house of God, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had collected from Manasseh and Ephraim and from all the remnant of Israel and from all Judah and Benjamin and from the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
10 Sie gaben es den Werkmeistern, die im Haus des Herrn angestellt waren, und diese verwendeten es für die Arbeiter, die im Haus des Herrn tätig waren, um seine Schäden auszubessern und das Haus instand zu setzen.	10 They delivered it to the workmen who had the oversight of the house of the LORD; and the workmen who were working in the house of the LORD gave it for repairing and restoring the house.
11 Sie gaben es den Zimmerleuten und Bauarbeitern zum Ankauf von Bruchsteinen und Holz zur Beschaffung der Klammern und zur Erneuerung des Gebälks in den Gebäuden, die von den Königen von Juda vernachlässigt worden waren.	11 They gave it to the carpenters and the builders to buy quarried stone, and timber for binders and beams for the buildings which the kings of Judah had let go to ruin.
12 Die Männer handelten bei ihrer Arbeit auf Treu und Glauben. Zu ihrer Leitung waren die Leviten Jahat und Obadja von den Nachkommen Meraris sowie Secharja und Meschullam von den Nachkommen Kehats bestellt. Die Leviten, die sich auf die Musikinstrumente verstanden,	12 And the men did the work faithfully. Over them were set Jahath and Obadiah the Levites, of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to have oversight. The Levites, all who were skilful with instruments of music,
13 befehligten die Lastträger und hatten die Aufsicht über alle Arbeiter bei verschiedenen Dienstleistungen. Einzelne Leviten waren Schreiber, Listenführer und Torwächter.	13 were over the burden bearers and directed all who did work in every kind of service; and some of the Levites were scribes, and officials, and gatekeepers.
14 Als man das Geld herausnahm, das in das Haus des Herrn gebracht worden war, fand der Priester Hilkija das Buch des Gesetzes des Herrn, das durch Mose verkündet worden war.	14 While they were bringing out the money that had been brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of the LORD given through Moses.
15 Hilkija berichtete darüber dem Staatsschreiber Schafan und sagte: Ich habe im Haus des Herrn das Gesetzbuch gefunden. Hilkija übergab Schafan das Buch	15 Then Hilkiah said to Shaphan the secretary, "I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD"; and Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.
16 und dieser brachte es zum König mit der Meldung: Deine Knechte haben alles ausgeführt, was ihnen aufgetragen wurde.	16 Shaphan brought the book to the king, and further reported to the king, "All that was committed to your servants they are doing.
17 Sie haben das Geld ausgeschüttet, das sich im Haus des Herrn vorfand, und es den Aufsehern und Arbeitern gegeben.	17 They have emptied out the money that was found in the house of the LORD and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers and the workmen."
18 Dann sagte der Staatsschreiber zum König: Der Priester Hilkija hat mir ein Buch gegeben. Schafan las dem König daraus vor.	18 Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a book." And Shaphan read it before the king.
19 Als der König die Worte des Gesetzes hörte, zerriss er seine Kleider	19 When the king heard the words of the law he rent his clothes.
20 und befahl dem Priester Hilkija sowie Ahikam, dem Sohn Schafans, Abdon, dem Sohn Michas, dem Staatsschreiber Schafan und Asaja, dem Diener des Königs:	20 And the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,
21 Geht und befragt den Herrn für mich und den Rest Israels und Judas wegen des Buches, das aufgefunden wurde. Denn der Zorn des Herrn, der sich über uns ergossen hat, muss groß sein, weil unsere Väter auf das Wort des Herrn nicht geachtet und weil sie nicht getan haben, was in diesem Buch niedergeschrieben ist.	21 "Go, inquire of the LORD for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that has been found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according to all that is written in this book."
22 Da ging Hilkija mit den Männern, die der König bestimmt hatte, zur Prophetin Hulda. Sie war die Frau Schallums, des Sohnes Tokhats, des Sohnes Hasras, des Verwalters der Kleiderkammer, und wohnte in Jerusalem in der Neustadt. Die Abgesandten trugen ihr die Angelegenheit vor	22 So Hilkiah and those whom the king had sent went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter) and spoke to her to that effect.
23 und sie gab ihnen diese Antwort: So spricht der Herr, der Gott Israels: Sagt zu dem Mann, der euch zu mir geschickt hat:	23 And she said to them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'Tell the man who sent you to me,
24 So spricht der Herr: Ich bringe Unheil über diesen Ort und seine Bewohner, alle Flüche, die im Buch geschrieben stehen, das man dem König von Juda vorgelesen hat.	24 Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the curses that are written in the book which was read before the king of Judah.
25 Denn sie haben mich verlassen, anderen Göttern geopfert und mich durch alle Werke ihrer Hände erzürnt. Darum hat sich mein Zorn über diesen Ort ergossen und er wird nicht erlöschen.	25 Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath will be poured out upon this place and will not be quenched.
26 Sagt aber zum König von Juda, der euch hergesandt hat, um den Herrn zu befragen: So spricht der Herr, der Gott Israels: Durch die Worte, die du gehört hast,	26 But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus shall you say to him, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Regarding the words which you have heard,
27 wurde dein Herz erweicht. Du hast dich vor Gott gedemütigt, als du seine Drohungen gegen diesen Ort und seine Bewohner vernommen hast. Du hast dich vor mir gedemütigt, deine Kleider zerrissen und hast vor mir geweint. Darum habe ich dich erhört - Spruch des Herrn.	27 because your heart was penitent and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me, and have rent your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, says the LORD.
28 Ich werde dich mit deinen Vätern vereinen und du sollst in Frieden in deinem Grab beigesetzt werden. Deine Augen sollen all das Unheil nicht mehr sehen, das ich über diesen Ort und seine Bewohner bringen werde. - Sie berichteten das dem König.	28 Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place and its inhabitants.'" And they brought back word to the king.
29 Der König ließ alle Ältesten Judas und Jerusalems bei sich zusammenkommen.	29 Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30 Er ging zum Haus des Herrn hinauf mit allen Männern Judas und den Einwohnern Jerusalems, den Priestern und Leviten und allem Volk, alt und jung. Er ließ ihnen alle Worte des Bundesbuches vorlesen, das im Haus des Herrn gefunden worden war.	30 And the king went up to the house of the LORD, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the Levites, all the people both great and small; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of the LORD.
31 Dann trat der König an seinen Platz und schloss vor dem Herrn diesen Bund: Er wolle dem Herrn folgen, auf seine Gebote, Satzungen und Gesetze von ganzem Herzen und ganzer Seele achten und die Vorschriften des Bundes durchführen, die in diesem Buch niedergeschrieben sind.	31 And the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.
32 Er ließ auch alle, die sich in Jerusalem und Benjamin befanden, dem Bund beitreten und die Einwohner Jerusalems hielten sich an den Bund Gottes, des Gottes ihrer Väter.	32 Then he made all who were present in Jerusalem and in Benjamin stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
33 Joschija entfernte alle Gräuel aus allen Gebieten der Israeliten und veranlasste alle, die in Israel lebten, dem Herrn, ihrem Gott, zu dienen. Solange er lebte, fielen sie nicht mehr vom Herrn, dem Gott ihrer Väter, ab.	33 And Josiah took away all the abominations from all the territory that belonged to the people of Israel, and made all who were in Israel serve the LORD their God. All his days they did not turn away from following the LORD the God of their fathers.
