DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW JERUSALEM
Masters, do to your servants that which is just and equal: knowing that you also have a master in heaven.1 Masters, make sure that your slaves are given what is upright and fair, knowing that you too have aMaster in heaven.
Be instant in prayer; watching in it with thanksgiving:2 Be persevering in your prayers and be thankful as you stay awake to pray.
Praying withal for us also, that God may open unto us a door of speech to speak the mystery of Christ (for which also I am bound;)3 Pray for us especial y, asking God to throw open a door for us to announce the message and proclaimthe mystery of Christ, for the sake of which I am in chains;
That I may make it manifest as I ought to speak.4 pray that I may proclaim it as clearly as I ought.
Walk with wisdom towards them that are without, redeeming the time.5 Act wisely with outsiders, making the best of the present time.
Let your speech be always in grace seasoned with salt: that you may know how you ought to answer every man.6 Always talk pleasantly and with a flavour of wit but be sensitive to the kind of answer each one requires.
All the things that concern me, Tychicus, our dearest brother, and faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord, will make known to you,7 Tychicus will tel you al the news about me. He is a very dear brother, and a trustworthy helper andcompanion in the service of the Lord.
Whom I have sent to you for this same purpose, that he may know the things that concern you, and comfort your hearts,8 I am sending him to you precisely for this purpose: to give you news about us and to encourage youthoroughly.
With Onesimus, a most beloved and faithful brother, who is one of you. All things that are done here, they shall make known to you.9 With him I am sending Onesimus, that dear and trustworthy brother who is a fel ow-citizen of yours.They wil tell you everything that is happening here.
Aristarchus, my fellow prisoner, saluteth you, and Mark, the cousin german of Barnabus, touching whom you have received commandments; if he come unto you, receive him:10 Aristarchus, who is here in prison with me, sends his greetings, and so does Mark, the cousin ofBarnabas -- you were sent some instructions about him; if he comes to you, give him a warm welcome-
And Jesus, that is called Justus: who are of the circumcision: these only are my helpers in the kingdom of God; who have been a comfort to me.11 and Jesus Justus adds his greetings. Of al those who have come over from the circumcision, theseare the only ones actually working with me for the kingdom of God. They have been a great comfort to me.
Epaphras saluteth you, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, who is always solicitous for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect, and full in all the will of God.12 Epaphras, your fel ow-citizen, sends his greetings; this servant of Christ Jesus never stops battling foryou, praying that you will never lapse but always hold perfectly and securely to the wil of God.
For I bear him testimony that he hath much labour for you, and for them that are at Laodicea, and them at Hierapolis.13 I can testify for him that he works hard for you, as wel as for those at Laodicea and Hierapolis.
Luke, the most dear physician, saluteth you: and Demas.14 Greetings from my dear friend Luke, the doctor, and also from Demas.
Salute the brethren who are at Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church that is in his house.15 Please give my greetings to the brothers at Laodicea and to Nympha and the church which meets inher house.
And when this epistle shall have been read with you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans: and that you read that which is of the Laodiceans.16 After this letter has been read among you, send it on to be read in the church of the Laodiceans; andget the letter from Laodicea for you to read yourselves.
And say to Archippus: Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.17 Give Archippus this message, 'Remember the service that the Lord assigned to you, and try to carry itout.'
