Deuteronomy 13

DOUAI-RHEIMS	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 If there rise in the midst of thee a prophet or one that saith he hath dreamed a dream, and he foretell a sign and a wonder,	1 Osserverete e praticherete tutto ciò che vi ordino: non vi aggiungerai e non ne detrarrai nulla.
2 And that come to pass which he spoke, and he say to thee: Let us go and follow strange gods, which thou knowest not, and let us serve them:	2 Se sorge in mezzo a te un profeta o un sognatore che ti proponga un segno o un prodigio
3 Thou shalt not hear the words of that prophet or dreamer: for the Lord your God trieth you, that it may appear whether you love him with all your heart, and with all your soul, or not.	3 e, avveratosi il segno o il prodigio di cui ti aveva parlato, ti dica: "Seguiamo altri dèi, che tu non hai conosciuto, e serviamoli",
4 Follow the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and hear his voice: him you shall serve, and to him you shall cleave.	4 non ascoltare le parole di questo profeta o sognatore; perché il Signore vostro Dio vi mette alla prova per conoscere se veramente amate il Signore vostro Dio con tutto il vostro cuore e con tutta la vostra anima.
5 And that prophet or forger of dreams shall be slain: because he spoke to draw you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you from the house of bondage: to make thee go out of the way, which the Lord thy God commanded thee: and thou shalt take away the evil out of the midst of thee.	5 Seguirete il Signore vostro Dio, lui temerete, osserverete i suoi precetti, ascolterete la sua voce, servirete e aderirete a lui.
6 If thy brother the son of thy mother, or thy son, or daughter, or thy wife that is in thy bosom, or thy friend, whom thou lovest as thy own soul, would persuade thee secretly, saying: Let us go, and serve strange gods, which thou knowest not, nor thy fathers,	6 Questo profeta o sognatore morirà perché ha proposto una defezione dal Signore vostro Dio, che vi ha fatto uscire dalla terra d'Egitto e ti ha liberato dalla casa di schiavitù, per trascinarti fuori del cammino sul quale il Signore tuo Dio ti ha prescritto di camminare. Così distruggerai il male in mezzo a te.
7 Of all the nations round about, that are near or afar off, from one end of the earth to the other,	7 Se tuo fratello, figlio di tuo padre o figlio di tua madre, tuo figlio, tua figlia, la moglie che riposa sul tuo petto, l'amico che è come la tua anima, ti incita in segreto dicendo: "Andiamo a servire altri dèi", che non hai conosciuto né tu né i tuoi padri,
8 Consent not to him, hear him not, neither let thy eye spare him to pity and conceal him,	8 tra le divinità dei popoli che vi circondano, vicini o lontani, da un capo all'altro della terra;
9 But thou shalt presently put him to death. It Let thy hand be first upon him, and afterwards the hands of all the people.	9 tu non acconsentirai, non gli darai ascolto, il tuo occhio non avrà misericordia di lui, non lo risparmierai né coprirai la sua colpa.
10 With stones shall he be stoned to death: because he would have withdrawn thee from the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage:	10 Tu dovrai ucciderlo, la tua mano sarà la prima contro di lui per metterlo a morte, quindi la mano di tutto il popolo;
11 That all Israel hearing may fear, and may do no more any thing like this.	11 lo lapiderai e morirà, perché ha cercato di allontanarti dal Signore tuo Dio che ti ha fatto uscire dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù.
12 If in one of thy cities, which the Lord thy God shall give thee to dwell in, thou hear some say:	12 Tutto Israele sentirà, avrà paura e non commetterà più un'azione cattiva come questa in mezzo a te.
13 Children of Belial are gone out of the midst of thee, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, and have said: Let us go, and serve strange gods which you know not:	13 Se senti che in una delle città che il Signore tuo Dio ti concede per abitarvi,
14 Inquire carefully and diligently, the truth of the thing by looking well into it, and if thou find that which is said to be certain, and that this abomination hath been really committed,	14 sono usciti da te uomini perversi e hanno sedotto gli abitanti delle loro città dicendo: "Andiamo a servire altri dèi" che non avete conosciuto;
15 Thou shalt forthwith kill the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, and shalt destroy it and all things that are in it, even the cattle.	15 tu indagherai, esaminerai e interrogherai con cura. Se la cosa è certa e un tale abominio è stato davvero compiuto in mezzo a te,
16 And all the household goods that are there, thou shalt gather together in the midst of the streets thereof, and shalt burn them with the city itself, so as to consume all for the Lord thy God, and that it be a heap for ever: it shall be built no more.	16 devi passare gli abitanti di quella città a fil di spada, votare all'anatema essa e quanto è in essa, e passare a fil di spada anche il suo bestiame;
17 And there shall nothing of that anathema stick to thy hand: that the Lord may turn from the wrath of his fury, and may have mercy on thee, and multiply thee as he swore to thy fathers,	17 ammasserai tutto il bottino in mezzo alla piazza e brucerai nel fuoco la città con tutto il bottino, tutta intera, per il Signore tuo Dio. Diverrà una rovina eterna e non sarà più ricostruita.
18 When thou shalt hear the voice of the Lord thy God, keeping all his precepts, which I command thee this day, that thou mayst do what is pleasing in the sight of the Lord thy God.	18 Non resti attaccato alla tua mano nulla dell'anatema, affinché il Signore desista dalla sua ira ardente e ti conceda misericordia; abbia di te misericordia e ti moltiplichi come ha giurato ai tuoi padri,
	19 poiché tu hai ascoltato la voce del Signore tuo Dio, osservando tutti i suoi precetti che oggi ti prescrivo e facendo quanto è retto agli occhi del Signore tuo Dio.
