Hosea 12

1 Ephraim feedeth on the wind, and followeth the burning heat: all the day long he multiplied lies and desolation: and he hath made a covenant with the Assyrians, and carried oil into Egypt.	1 Hazugsággal vett engem körül Efraim, és csalárdsággal Izrael háza; – csak Júda jár Isten mellett tanúskodva, s a Szentségeshez hűségesen ragaszkodva.« –
2 Therefore there is a judgment of the Lord with Juda, and a visitation for Jacob: he will render to him according to his ways, and according to his devices.	2 Efraim vihart legeltet, s a keleti szél után fut. Egész nap hazugságot és pusztulást szaporít, szövetségre lép az asszírokkal, és Egyiptomba visz olajat.
3 In the womb he supplanted his brother: and by his strength he had success with an angel.	3 Ezért az Úr perbe száll Izraellel, és megbünteti Jákobot; útjai szerint és cselekedetei szerint fizet meg neki.
4 And he prevailed over the angel, and was strengthened: he wept, and made supplication to him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spoke with us.	4 Már az anyaméhben félrelökte testvérét, és férfikora erejében Istennel küzdött, angyallal mérkőzött.
5 Even the Lord the God of hosts, the Lord is his memorial.	5 Megmérkőzött az angyallal és diadalmaskodott; sírt és könyörgött neki. Bételben találta meg őt, s ott beszélt velünk
6 Therefore turn thou to thy God : keep mercy and judgment, and hope in thy God always.	6 az Úr, a Seregek Istene, az Úr az ő neve:
7 He is like Chanaan, there is a deceitful balance in his hand, he hath loved oppression.	7 »Térj vissza Istenedhez! Tartsd meg az irgalmat és az igazságot, és remélj mindenkoron Istenedben!«
8 And Ephraim said: But yet I am become rich, I have found me an idol: all my labours shall not find me the iniquity that I have committed.	8 Kánaán kezében hamis mérleg van, szereti a csalárdságot.
9 And I that am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, will yet cause thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the feast.	9 És mégis ezt mondja Efraim: »Bár meggazdagodtam és vagyont szereztem magamnak, semmiféle munkám gyümölcse sem talál bennem gonoszságot, melyet elkövettem volna!«
10 And I have spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and I have used similitudes by the ministry of the prophets.	10 »De én, az Úr vagyok a te Istened Egyiptom földje óta, s még egyszer sátrakba telepítlek téged, úgy mint a találkozás napján.
11 If Galaad be an idol, then in vain were they in Galgal offering sacrifices with bullocks: for their altars also are as heaps in the furrows of the field.	11 Mert én szóltam a prófétáknak, és én adtam a sok látomást, s a próféták által én mondtam példabeszédeket.«
12 Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and was a keeper for a wife.	12 Ha Gileád gonoszságra adta magát, megsemmisülnek lakói; ha a tulkoknak áldoznak Gilgálban, oltáraik is olyanok lesznek, mint a kőrakás a szántóföld barázdái mellett.
13 But the Lord by a prophet brought Israel out of Egypt: and he was preserved by a prophet.	13 Szíria földjére menekült Jákob, egy asszonyért szolgált Izrael, egy asszonyért őrizte a nyájat;
14 Ephraim hath provoked me to wrath with his bitterness, and his blood shall come upon him, and his Lord will render his reproach unto him.	14 de próféta által hozta ki Izraelt Egyiptomból az Úr, és próféta által őriztette őt.
	15 Keserű haragra ingerelt engem Efraim, de vérontása visszaszáll rá, és gyalázatosságát visszafizeti neki Ura.
