1 A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, thou hast been our refuge from generation to generation.	1 Prière de Moïse, homme de Dieu. Seigneur, tu as été pour nous d’âge en âge un refuge.
2 Before the mountains were made, or the earth and the world was formed; from eternity and to eternity thou art God.	2 Bien avant la naissance des monts, avant la mise au monde du globe de la terre, tu étais déjà Dieu, tu l’es à jamais,
3 Turn not man away to be brought low: and thou hast said: Be converted, O ye sons of men.	3 toi qui renvoies les mortels à la poussière, et qui leur dis: “Repartez, fils d’Adam!”
4 For a thousand years in thy sight are as yesterday, which is past. And as a watch in the night,	4 Mille années ont passé: pour toi c’était hier! mille années: le temps d’une veille!
5 things that are counted nothing, shall their years be.	5 Tu les sèmes tour à tour, et le matin voit sortir l’herbe verte.
6 In the morning man shall grow up like grass; in the morning he shall flourish and pass away: in the evening he shall fall, grow dry, and wither.	6 Au matin vient sa fleur, elle s’ouvre, et puis se fane au soir, elle se dessèche.
7 For in thy wrath we have fainted away: and are troubled in thy indignation.	7 Tu nous vois consumés par ta colère, désarçonnés par ta fureur.
8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thy eyes: our life in the light of thy countenance.	8 Tu as rappelé nos fautes en ta présence, tu as mis nos secrets sous les feux de ta face,
9 For all our days are spent; and in thy wrath we have fainted away. Our years shall be considered spider:	9 et nos jours ont couru sous ta colère, nos années ont passé comme un soupir.
10 the days of our years in them are threescore and ten years. But if in the strong they be fourscore years: and what is more of them is labour and sorrow. For mildness is come upon us: and we shall be corrected.	10 Combien d’années? Soixante-dix ans peut-être, quatre-vingts, si l’on est vigoureux. La plupart ne sont que peine et déception, elles passent vite et nous voilà envolés.
11 Who knoweth the power of thy anger, and for thy fear	11 Qui a connu la force de ta colère, qui a sondé le fond de ta fureur?
12 can number thy wrath? So make thy right hand known: and men learned in heart, in wisdom.	12 Apprends-nous à compter nos jours, que notre cœur enfin vienne à la sagesse.
13 Return, O Lord, how long? and be entreated in favour of thy servants.	13 Reviens, Seigneur, jusques à quand? Aie compassion de tes serviteurs.
14 We are filled in the morning with thy mercy: and we have rejoiced, and are delighted all our days.	14 Comble-nous de tes faveurs dès le matin, que le rire et la joie soient toujours avec nous.
15 We have rejoiced for the days in which thou hast humbled us: for the years in which we have seen evils.	15 Fais que dure la joie comme ont duré nos misères, et les années où nous avons connu le malheur.
16 Look upon thy servants and upon their works: and direct their children.	16 Agis enfin et que tes serviteurs le voient, que leurs enfants découvrent ta majesté.
17 And let the brightness of the Lord our God be upon us: and direct thou the works of our hands over us; yea, the work of our hands do thou direct.	17 Que le Seigneur nous couvre de sa douceur et qu’il mène à bien l’œuvre de nos mains!
