1 Josias was eight years old when he began to reign: he reigned one and thirty years in Jerusalem: the name of his mother was Idida, the daughter of Hadaia, of Besecath.	1 Giosia aveva otto anni, quando divenne re, e regnò trentun anno, a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Jedida figlia di Jadaia, da Bozkat.
2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the ways of David his father: he turned not aside to the right hand, or to the left.	2 Egli fece ciò che è retto agli occhi di Jahvè e camminò su ogni via di suo padre David senza deviare a destra né a sinistra.
3 And in the eighteenth year of b king Josias, the king sent Saphan the son of Assia, the son of Messulam, the scribe of the temple of the Lord, saying to him:	3 L’anno: decimottavo del re Giosia; il re mandò al tempio di: Jahvè lo scriba Shafan figlio. di Azalia, figlio di Meshullam, con quest’ordine:
4 Go to Helcias the high priest, that the money may be put together which is brought into the temple of the Lord, which the doorkeepers of the temple have gathered of the people.	4 «Sali dal grande sacerdote Helkia affinché raduni il denaro portato nel tempio di Jahvè e che i custodi della: soglia hanno raccolto dal popolo;
5 And let it be given to the workmen by the overseers of the house of the Lord: and lot them distribute it to those that work in the temple of the Lord, to repair the temple:	5 lo si consegni in mano ai capi degli operai nel tempio di Jahvè. Questi poi lo.rimetteranno agli operai addetti al tempio di Jahvè per ripararne le rovine,
6 That is, to carpenters and masons, and to such as mend breaches: and that timber may be bought, and stones out of the quarries, to repair the temple of the Lord.	6 cioè ai carpentieri, ai costruttori e ai muratori per acquistare legname e pietre squadrate a rinforzo del tempio.
7 But let there be no reckoning made with them of the money which they receive, but let them have it in their power, and in their trust.	7 Non si faccia però con loro il conto del denaro consegnato nella loro mano, perché essi lavorano con onestà».
8 And Helcias the high priest said to Saphan the scribe: I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord: and Helcias gave the book to Saphan, and he read it.	8 Il grande sacerdote Helkia disse allo scriba Shafan: «Ho trovato il libro della legge nel tempio di Jahvè». Ed Helkia diede il libro a Shafan ed egli lo lesse.
9 And Saphan the scribe came to the king, and brought him word again concerning that which he had commanded, and said: Thy servants have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and they have given it to be distributed to the workmen, by the overseers of the works of the temple of the Lord.	9 Poi lo scriba Shafan andò dal re e gli fece questa relazione: «I tuoi servitori hanno versato il denaro trovato nel tempio e lo hanno consegnato ai capi degli operai nel tempio di Jahvè».
10 And Saphan the scribe told the king, saying: Helcias the priest hath delivered to me a book. And when Saphan had read it before the king,	10 Quindi lo scriba Shafan comunicò al re: «Il sacerdote Helkia mi ha dato un libro»; Shafan lo lesse alla presenza del re.
11 And the king had heard the words of the law of the Lord, he rent his garments.	11 Appena il re udì le parole del libro della legge, si stracciò le vesti.
12 And he commanded Helcias the priest, and Ahicam the son of Saphan, and Achobor the son of Micha, and Saphan the scribe, and Asaia the king's servant, saying:	12 Poi il re ordinò al sacerdote Helkia, ad Akhikam figlio di Shafan, ad Achbor figlio di Michea, allo scriba Shafan e ad Asaia servitore del re:
13 Go and consult the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Juda, concerning the words of this book which is found: for the great wrath of the Lord is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened to the words of this book, to do all that is written for us.	13 «Andate a consultare Jahvè per me, per il popolo e per tutto Giuda circa le parole del libro, che è stato trovato, poiché grande è l’ira di Jahvè che si è accesa contro di noi, perché i nostri padri non hanno ascoltato le parole di questo libro e non hanno agito secondo quanto è scritto in esso».
14 So Helcias the priest, and Ahicam, and Achobor, and Saphan, and Asaia went to Holda the prophetess the wife of Sellum the son of Thecua, the son of Araas keeper of the wardrobe, who dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second: and they spoke to her.	14 Il sacerdote Helkia, Akhikam, Achbor, Shafan e Asaia andarono dalla profetessa Khulda moglie di Shallum, figlio di Tekua, figlio di Khasra, custode delle vesti. Essa abitava nel secondo quartiere di Gerusalemme. Parlarono con lei
15 And she said to them: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Tell the man that sent you to me:	15 ed essa rispose loro: «Così dice Jahvè Dio di Israele: “Riferite all’uomo che vi ha mandato da me:
16 Thus saith the Lord: Behold, I will bring evils upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, all the words of the law which the king of Juda hath read:	16 Così dice Jahvè: Ecco io faccio venire una sciagura su questo luogo e sui suoi abitanti e tutte le cose del libro che il re di Giuda ha letto,
17 Because they have forsaken me, and have sacrificed to strange gods, provoking me by all the works of their hands: therefore my indignation shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.	17 poiché essi mi hanno abbandonato e hanno offerto profumi a divinità straniere, così da provocarmi a sdegno con tutte le opere delle loro mani. La mia ira divamperà contro questo luogo e non si spegnerà!”.
18 But to the king of Juda, who sent you to consult the Lord, thus shall you say: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Forasmuch as thou hast heard the words of the book,	18 Riferirete poi al re di Giuda che vi ha inviato per consultare Jahvè: “Così dice Jahvè, Dio di Israele, a proposito delle parole che hai udito:
19 And thy heart hath been moved to fear, and thou hast humbled thyself before the Lord, hearing the words against this place, and the inhabitants thereof, to wit, that they should become a wonder and a curse: and thou hast rent thy garments, and wept before me, I also have heard thee, saith the Lord:	19 Poiché il tuo cuore si è intenerito e ti sei umiliato innanzi a Jahvè, quando hai udito ciò che ho pronunciato contro questo luogo e contro i suoi abitanti — essi cioè dovrebbero diventare oggetto di stupore e di maledizione —, e ti sei stracciato le vesti, piangendo al mio cospetto, anch'io ti ascolterò, oracolo di Jahvè!
20 Therefore I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy sepulchre in peace, that thy eyes may not see all the evils which I will bring; upon this place.	20 Perciò, ecco, ti riunirò ai tuoi padri e, quando sarai composto in pace nel tuo sepolcro, i tuoi occhi non vedranno l’intera sciagura che farò venire contro questo luogo”». Quelli riferirono la risposta al re.
