DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il vostro cuore non sia turbato; voi credete in Dio, credete ancora in me.	1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. You trust in God, trust also in me.
2 Nella casa del Padre mio vi son molte stanze; se no, io ve l’avrei detto; io vo ad apparecchiarvi il luogo.	2 In my Father's house there are many places to live in; otherwise I would have told you. I am going nowto prepare a place for you,
3 E quando io sarò andato, e vi avrò apparecchiato il luogo, verrò di nuovo, e vi accoglierò appresso di me, acciocchè dove io sono, siate ancora voi	3 and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you to myself, so that you maybe with me where I am.
4 Voi sapete ove io vo, e sapete anche la via.	4 You know the way to the place where I am going.
5 Toma gli disse: Signore, noi non sappiamo ove tu vai; come dunque possiamo saper la via?	5 Thomas said, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?'
6 Gesù gli disse: Io son la via, la verità, e la vita; niuno viene al Padre se non per me.	6 Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
7 Se voi mi aveste conosciuto, conoscereste anche il Padre; e fin da ora lo conoscete, e l’avete veduto.	7 If you know me, you will know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him.
8 Filippo gli disse: Signore, mostraci il Padre, e ciò ci basta.	8 Philip said, 'Lord, show us the Father and then we shall be satisfied.' Jesus said to him,
9 Gesù gli disse: Cotanto tempo sono io già con voi, e tu non mi hai conosciuto, Filippo? chi mi ha veduto ha veduto il Padre; come dunque dici tu: Mostraci il Padre?	9 'Have I been with you al this time, Philip, and you stil do not know me? 'Anyone who has seen me hasseen the Father, so how can you say, "Show us the Father"?
10 Non credi tu che io son nel Padre, e che il Padre è in me? le parole che io vi ragiono, non le ragiono da me stesso; e il Padre, che dimora in me, è quel che fa le opere.	10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I say to you I do not speakof my own accord: it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his works.
11 Credetemi ch’io son nel Padre, e che il Padre è in me; se no, credetemi per esse opere	11 You must believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe iton the evidence of these works.
12 In verità, in verità, io vi dico, che chi crede in me farà anch’egli le opere le quali io fo; anzi ne farà delle maggiori di queste, perciocchè io me ne vo al Padre.	12 In all truth I tell you, whoever believes in me wil perform the same works as I do myself, and wilperform even greater works, because I am going to the Father.
13 Ed ogni cosa che voi avrete chiesta nel nome mio, quella farò; acciocchè il Padre sia glorificato nel Figliuolo.	13 Whatever you ask in my name I wil do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 Se voi chiedete cosa alcuna nel nome mio, io la farò	14 If you ask me anything in my name, I wil do it.
15 Se voi mi amate, osservate i miei comandamenti.	15 If you love me you wil keep my commandments.
16 Ed io pregherò il Padre, ed egli vi darà un altro Consolatore, che dimori con voi in perpetuo.	16 I shall ask the Father, and he wil give you another Paraclete to be with you for ever,
17 Cioè lo Spirito della verità, il quale il mondo non può ricevere; perciocchè non lo vede, e non lo conosce; ma voi lo conoscete; perciocchè dimora appresso di voi, e sarà in voi	17 the Spirit of truth whom the world can never accept since it neither sees nor knows him; but you knowhim, because he is with you, he is in you.
18 Io non vi lascerò orfani; io tornerò a voi.	18 I shall not leave you orphans; I shall come to you.
19 Fra qui ed un poco di tempo, il mondo non mi vedrà più; ma voi mi vedrete;	19 In a short time the world wil no longer see me; but you wil see that I live and you also wil live.
20 perciocchè io vivo, e voi ancora vivrete. In quel giorno voi conoscerete che io son nel Padre mio, e che voi siete in me, ed io in voi.	20 On that day you wil know that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you.
21 Chi ha i miei comandamenti, e li osserva, esso è quel che mi ama; e chi mi ama sarà amato dal Padre mio; ed io ancora l’amerò, e me gli manifesterò.	21 Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me; and whoever lovesme will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and reveal myself to him.'
22 Giuda, non l’Iscariot, gli disse: Signore, che vuol dire che tu ti manifesterai a noi, e non al mondo? Gesù rispose, e gli disse:	22 Judas -- not Judas Iscariot -- said to him, 'Lord, what has happened, that you intend to show yourselfto us and not to the world?'
23 Se alcuno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola, e il Padre mio l’amerà; e noi verremo a lui, e faremo dimora presso lui.	23 Jesus replied: Anyone who loves me wil keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shalcome to him and make a home in him.
24 Chi non mi ama non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che voi udite, non è mia, ma del Padre che mi ha mandato	24 Anyone who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not my own: itis the word of the Father who sent me.
25 Io vi ho ragionate queste cose, dimorando appresso di voi.	25 I have said these things to you while still with you;
26 Ma il Consolatore, cioè lo Spirito Santo, il quale il Padre manderà nel nome mio, esso v’insegnerà ogni cosa, e vi rammemorerà tutte le cose che io vi ho dette.	26 but the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father wil send in my name, wil teach you everythingand remind you of al I have said to you.
27 Io vi lascio pace, io vi do la mia pace: io non ve la do, come il mondo la dà; il vostro cuore non sia turbato, e non si spaventi	27 Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace which the world cannot give, this is mygift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
28 Voi avete udito che io vi ho detto: Io me ne vo, e tornerò a voi; se voi mi amaste, certo voi vi rallegrereste di ciò che ho detto: Io me ne vo al Padre; poichè il Padre è maggiore di me.	28 You heard me say: I am going away and shal return. If you loved me you would be glad that I amgoing to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
29 Ed ora, io ve l’ho detto, innanzi che sia avvenuto; acciocchè, quando sarà avvenuto, voi crediate.	29 I have told you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe.
30 Io non parlerò più molto con voi; perciocchè il principe di questo mondo viene, e non ha nulla in me.	30 I shall not talk to you much longer, because the prince of this world is on his way. He has no powerover me,
31 Ma quest’è, acciocchè il mondo conosca che io amo il Padre, e che fo come il Padre mi ha ordinato. Levatevi, andiamcene di qui	31 but the world must recognise that I love the Father and that I act just as the Father commanded.Come now, let us go.
