Isaías 8

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 El Señor me dijo: «Toma una tabla bien grande y escribe sobre ella, con caracteres comunes: Rápido Botín – Saqueo Veloz».	1 Yahweh said to me, 'Take a large tablet and on it with an ordinary stylus write, "Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz".
2 Yo puse como testigos fidedignos al sacerdote Urías y a Zacarías, hijo de Baraquías.	2 And take reliable witnesses, the priest Uriah and Zechariah son of Jeberechiah.'

5 El Señor me volvió a hablar otra vez, diciendo:	5 Yahweh spoke to me again and said,
6 Porque este pueblo rehúsa las aguas de Siloé, que corren mansamente, y desfallece ante Resín y el hijo de Remalías,	6 'Since this people has rejected the waters of Shiloah which flow smoothly, and has trembled beforeRazon and the son of Remaliah,
7 por eso, el Señor hace subir contra ellos las aguas torrenciales y caudalosas del Río –el rey de Asiria con toda su gloria–. El rebasará todos sus cauces, desbordará por todas sus orillas,	7 now, against it, the Lord will bring the mighty, swel ing waters of the River (the king of Assyria and al hisglory); the River wil flood up all its channels and overflow al its banks;
8 y pasará por Judá, inundará, crecerá, llegará hasta el cuello. Y sus alas desplegadas abarcarán toda la extensión de tu país, Emanuel.	8 it wil flow into Judah, flooding everything and passing on; it will reach right up to the neck, and the spreading of its wings wil cover the whole extent of your country, Immanuel!
9 ¡Tiemblen, pueblos, y espántense; presten atención, regiones lejanas de la tierra! ¡Cíñanse las armas y espántense! ¡Cíñanse las armas y espántense!	9 Realise this, peoples, and be afraid, listen, all members of far-off nations! Arm yourselves yet be afraid!Arm yourselves yet be afraid!
10 Hagan un proyecto: ¡fracasará! Digan una palabra: ¡no se realizará! Porque Dios está con nosotros.	10 Devise plans as you may: they will come to nothing! Make what pronouncements you like; it wil notcome about! For God is with us!'
11 Porque así me habló el Señor, cuando me tomó con su mano y me conminó a que no siguiera el camino de este pueblo:	11 For this was how Yahweh spoke to me when his hand seized hold of me and he taught me not to fol owthe path of this people, saying,
12 No llamen «conjura» a todo lo que este pueblo llama «conjura»; no teman lo que él teme ni tiemblen por eso,	12 'Do not call conspiracy al that this people calls conspiracy; do not dread what they dread, have no fearof that.
13 Pero al Señor de los ejércitos, a él sí proclámenlo santo: que sólo él les infunda temor, que sólo él los haga temblar.	13 Yahweh Sabaoth is the one you wil proclaim holy, him you wil dread, him you wil fear.
14 El será un santuario, una piedra de tropiezo y un escollo insuperable para las dos casas de Israel; será una red y una trampa para los habitantes de Jerusalén.	14 He will be a sanctuary, a stumbling-stone, a rock to trip up the two Houses of Israel; a snare and a trapfor the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
15 Muchos de entre ellos tropezarán, caerán y se quebrarán, se enredarán en la trampa y quedarán atrapados.	15 over which many of them wil stumble, fal and be broken, be ensnared and made captive.
16 Voy a guardar el testimonio, a sellar la instrucción entre mis discípulos.	16 Bind up the testimony, seal the instruction in the heart of my disciples.'
17 Esperaré en el Señor, que oculta su rostro a la casa de Jacob: sí, lo aguardaré.	17 My trust is in Yahweh who hides his face from the House of Jacob; I put my hope in him.
18 Yo y los hijos que me dio el Señor somos signos y presagios en Israel, de parte del Señor de los ejércitos, que habita en el monte Sión.	18 Look, I and the children whom Yahweh has given me shal become signs and portents in Israel onbehalf of Yahweh Sabaoth who dwel s on Mount Zion.
19 Seguramente les dirán: «Consulten a los nigromantes y adivinos, que musitan y susurran. ¿No debe un pueblo consultar a sus dioses, consultar a los muertos en favor de los vivos,	19 And should people say to you, 'Go and consult ghosts and wizards that whisper and mutter' -- a peopleshould certainly consult its gods and the dead on behalf of the living!
20 para recibir instrucción y testimonio?». Seguro que se expresan así porque para ellos no despunta la aurora.	20 As regards instruction and testimony, without doubt this is how they wil talk, and hence there wil be nodawn for them.
21 La gente pasará por el país, abrumada y hambrienta; y enfurecida por el hambre, maldecirá por el hambre, maldecirá a su rey a a su Dios. Volverá su rostro hacia lo alto.	21 Oppressed and starving he wil wander the country; and, once starving, he wil become frenzied andcurse his king and his God; turning his gaze upward,
22 luego mirará a la tierra, y sólo habrá aflicción y tinieblas, angustiosa oscuridad. Pero la tiniebla será disipada,	22 then down to earth, there wil be only anguish, gloom, the confusion of night, swirling darkness.
23 porque ya no habrá oscuridad allí donde reinaba la angustia.	23 For is not everything dark as night for a country in distress? As the past humbled the land of Zebulunand the land of Naphtali, so the future will glorify the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, the territory of thenations.
