Sabiduría 3

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Las almas de los justos están en las manos de Dios, y no los afectará ningún tormento.	1 But the souls of the upright are in the hands of God, and no torment can touch them.
2 A los ojos de los insensatos parecían muertos; su partida de este mundo fue considerada una desgracia	2 To the unenlightened, they appeared to die, their departure was regarded as disaster,
3 y su alejamiento de nosotros, una completa destrucción; pero ellos están en paz.	3 their leaving us like annihilation; but they are at peace.
4 A los ojos de los hombres, ellos fueron castigados, pero su esperanza estaba colmada de inmortalidad.	4 If, as it seemed to us, they suffered punishment, their hope was rich with immortality;
5 Por una leve corrección, recibirán grandes beneficios, porque Dios los puso a prueba y los encontró dignos de él.	5 slight was their correction, great wil their blessings be. God was putting them to the test and has provedthem worthy to be with him;
6 Los probó como oro en el crisol y los aceptó como un holocausto.	6 he has tested them like gold in a furnace, and accepted them as a perfect burnt offering.
7 Por eso brillarán cuando Dios los visite, y se extenderán como chispas por los rastrojos.	7 At their time of visitation, they wil shine out; as sparks run through the stubble, so will they.
8 Juzgarán a las naciones y dominarán a los pueblos, y el Señor será su rey para siempre.	8 They wil judge nations, rule over peoples, and the Lord wil be their king for ever.
9 Los que confían en él comprenderán la verdad y los que le son fieles permanecerán junto a él en el amor. Porque la gracia y la misericordia son para sus elegidos.	9 Those who trust in him wil understand the truth, those who are faithful wil live with him in love; forgrace and mercy await his holy ones, and he intervenes on behalf of his chosen.
10 Pero los impíos tendrán un castigo conforme a sus razonamientos, porque desdeñaron al justo y se apartaron del Señor.	10 But the godless wil be duly punished for their reasoning, for having neglected the upright and desertedthe Lord.
11 El que desprecia la sabiduría y la enseñanza es un desdichado: ¡vana es su esperanza, inútiles sus esfuerzos, infructuosas sus obras!	11 Yes, wretched are they who scorn wisdom and discipline: their hope is void, their toil unavailing, theirachievements unprofitable;
12 ¡Sus mujeres son insensatas, sus hijos perversos y su descendencia maldita!	12 their wives are reckless, their children depraved, their descendants accursed.
13 ¡Feliz, en cambio, la mujer estéril que no se ha manchado, la que no tuvo relaciones ilícitas! Ella dará frutos cuando Dios visite las almas.	13 Blessed the sterile woman if she be blameless, and has not known an unlawful bed, for she wil havefruit at the visitation of souls.
14 Feliz también el eunuco que no cometió ninguna iniquidad ni tuvo pensamientos perversos contra el Señor. por su fidelidad se le dará una gracia especial, una herencia muy deseable en el Templo del Señor.	14 Blessed, too, the eunuch whose hand commits no crime, and who harbours no resentment against theLord: a special favour will be granted to him for his loyalty, a most desirable portion in the temple of the Lord.
15 Porque es glorioso el fruto de los trabajos honestos, e indefectible la raíz de la Sabiduría.	15 For the fruit of honest labours is glorious, and the root of understanding does not decay.
16 Pero los hijos de los adúlteros no llegarán a su madurez y la descendencia de una unión ilegítima desaparecerá.	16 But the children of adulterers wil not reach maturity, the offspring of an unlawful bed wil disappear.
17 Aunque vivan mucho tiempo, serán tenidos por nada, y al fin su vejez será deshonrosa;	17 Even if they live long, they wil count for nothing, their old age wil go unhonoured at the last;
18 si mueren pronto, no tendrán esperanza ni consuelo en el día del Discernimiento,	18 while if they die early, they have neither hope nor comfort on the day of judgement,
19 porque es penoso el fin de una raza injusta.	19 for the end of a race of evil-doers is harsh.
