Proverbios 17

1 Mejor un mendrugo seco con tranquilidad que una casa llena de banquetes con discordia.	1 A dry morsel with gladness is better than a house full of sacrifices along with conflict.
2 El servidor prudente se impondrá al hijo desvergonzado y compartirá la herencia con los hermanos.	2 A wise servant shall rule over foolish sons, and he will divide the inheritance among brothers.
3 Hay un crisol para la plata y un horno para el oro, pero el que prueba los corazones es el Señor.	3 Just as silver is tested by fire, and gold is tested in the furnace, so also does the Lord test hearts.
4 El malhechor hace caso a la maledicencia, el mentiroso presta oído a la lengua maligna.	4 The evil obey an unjust tongue. And the false are submissive to lying lips.
5 El que se burla del pobre ultraja a su Creador, el que se alegra de una desgracia no quedará impune.	5 Whoever despises the poor rebukes his Maker. And whoever rejoices in the ruin of another will not go unpunished.
6 Corona de los ancianos son los nietos, y la gloria de los hijos son sus padres.	6 Sons of sons are the crown of old age. And the glory of sons is their fathers.
7 No le queda bien al necio un lenguaje refinado, ¡cuánto menos a los nobles la mentira!	7 Well-chosen words are not fitting for the foolish, nor are lying lips fitting for a leader.
8 Un reglo es un talismán para el que lo da: dondequiera que vaya, todo le sale bien.	8 The expectation of those who stand ready is a most pleasing jewel. Whichever way he turns himself, he understands prudently.
9 El que disimula una ofensa cultiva la amistad, volver sobre la cosa separa del amigo.	9 Whoever conceals an offense seeks friendships. Whoever repeats the words of another separates allies.
10 Hace más una reprensión a un hombre inteligente que cien golpes a un necio.	10 A correction benefits more with a wise man, than a hundred stripes with a fool.
11 El malvado sólo busca la rebelión, pero le será enviado un mensajero cruel.	11 The evil one continually seeks conflicts. But a cruel Angel shall be sent against him.
12 Más vale toparse con una osa privada de sus crías que con un necio en su locura.	12 It is more expedient to meet a bear robbed of her young, than the foolish trusting in his own folly.
13 Si alguien devuelve mal por bien, la desdicha no se apartará de su casa.	13 Whoever repays evil for good, evil shall not withdraw from his house.
14 Iniciar un altercado es abrir una compuerta: retírate antes que estalle la disputa.	14 Whoever releases the water is the head of the conflict. And just before he suffers contempt, he abandons judgment.
15 Absolver al malvado y condenar al justo son dos cosas que abomina el Señor.	15 Those who justify the impious, and those who condemn the just, both are abominable with God.
16 ¿Para qué sirve el dinero en manos de un necio? ¿Para adquirir sabiduría? ¡Si no tiene inteligencia!	16 What does it profit the foolish to have riches, when he is not able to buy wisdom? Whoever makes his house high seeks ruin. And whoever shuns learning shall fall into evils.
17 El amigo ama en cualquier ocasión, y un hermano nace para compartir la adversidad.	17 Whoever is a friend loves at all times. And a brother is proved by distress.
18 Es un insensato el que estrecha la mano para salir fiador de su prójimo.	18 A foolish man will clap his hands, when he makes a pledge for his friend.
19 El que ama las querellas ama el pecado, el que alza demasiado su puerta busca la ruina.	19 Whoever dwells on discord loves disputes. And whoever exalts his door seeks ruin.
20 El corazón perverso no hallará la felicidad, y la lengua tortuosa caerá en la desgracia.	20 Whoever is of a perverse heart shall not find good. And whoever turns his tongue shall fall into evil.
21 El que engendra a un tonto, es para su aflicción, y no hay alegría para el padre de un necio.	21 A foolish one is born into his own disgrace. But his father will not rejoice in one who is senseless.
22 Un corazón alegre es el mejor remedio, pero el espíritu abatido reseca los huesos.	22 A joyful soul makes a lifetime flourish. A gloomy spirit dries out the bones.
23 El malvado acepta regalos bajo cuerda para torcer los senderos de la justicia.	23 The impious receives gifts from the bosom, so that he may pervert the paths of judgment.
24 Delante del hombre inteligente está la sabiduría, pero el necio mira a cualquier parte.	24 Prudence shines from the face of the wise. The eyes of the foolish are on the ends of the earth.
25 Un hijo necio es la tristeza de su padre y la amargura de aquella que lo engendró.	25 A foolish son is the anger of the father and the grief of the mother who conceived him.
26 Si no está bien multar a un hombre justo, golpear a los nobles supera toda medida.	26 It is not good to inflict damage on the just, nor to strike the leader who judges uprightly.
27 El que mide sus palabras es un hombre que sabe, y el que mantiene su sangre fría es inteligente.	27 Whoever moderates his words is learned and prudent. And a man of learning has a precious spirit.
28 Hasta el necio, si calla, puede pasar por sabio, y por inteligente, si cierra los labios.	28 If he would remain silent, even the foolish would be considered wise, and if he closes his lips, intelligent.
