1 “Je vous ai dit tout cela pour que vous ne soyez pas déconcertés.	1 “These things I have spoken to you, so that you would not stumble.
2 Ils vous excluront de leurs communautés. Bien plus, l’heure vient où l’on pensera qu’il suffit de vous tuer pour rendre hommage à Dieu.	2 They will put you out of the synagogues. But the hour is coming when everyone who puts you to death will consider that he is offering an excellent service to God.
3 Ils agiront ainsi parce qu’ils ne connaissent ni le Père, ni moi.	3 And they will do these things to you because they have not known the Father, nor me.
4 “Je vous ai dit tout cela pour qu’une fois l’heure venue, vous vous souveniez que je vous l’avais dit. Au début, j’étais avec vous, et c’est pourquoi je ne vous en parlais pas.	4 But these things I have spoken to you, so that, when the hour for these things will have arrived, you may remember that I told you.
5 Mais maintenant je m’en vais chez celui qui m’a envoyé, et aucun de vous ne me demande où je vais.	5 But I did not tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you. And now I am going to him who sent me. And no one among you has asked me, ‘Where are you going?’
6 Votre cœur s’est rempli de tristesse en entendant ce que je vous ai dit.	6 But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
7 Pourtant je vous dis la vérité: il est bon pour vous que je m’en aille, car si je ne m’en vais pas, le Protecteur ne viendra pas. Et si je pars, c’est pour vous l’envoyer.	7 But I tell you the truth: it is expedient for you that I am going. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But when I will have gone away, I will send him to you.
8 “Quand il viendra, il rétablira la vérité face au monde en matière de péché, de justice et de jugement.	8 And when he has arrived, he will argue against the world, about sin and about justice and about judgment:
9 “Où est le péché? Ils ne croient pas en moi.	9 about sin, indeed, because they have not believed in me;
10 “Où est la justice? Mais je m’en vais vers le Père tandis que vous ne me voyez plus!	10 about justice, truly, because I am going to the Father, and you will not see me any longer;
11 “Quel jugement? Celui du Prince de ce monde: il est déjà condamné.	11 about judgment, then, because the prince of this world has already been judged.
12 “J’ai beaucoup de choses à vous dire encore, mais vous ne pouvez pas les comprendre maintenant.	12 I still have many things to say to you, but you are not able to bear them now.
13 Quand il viendra, lui, l’Esprit de Vérité, il vous conduira sur le chemin de toute vérité. Il n’a pas de message propre, mais il dira ce qu’il aura entendu et vous annoncera les choses à venir.	13 But when the Spirit of truth has arrived, he will teach the whole truth to you. For he will not be speaking from himself. Instead, whatever he will hear, he will speak. And he will announce to you the things that are to come.
14 Il vous annoncera ce qu’il aura reçu de moi, et grâce à lui je serai glorifié.	14 He shall glorify me. For he will receive from what is mine, and he will announce it to you.
15 Tout ce qui est au Père est à moi: c’est pourquoi je viens de dire qu’il vous fera savoir des choses prises chez moi.”	15 All things whatsoever that the Father has are mine. For this reason, I said that he will receive from what is mine and that he will announce it to you.
16 “Encore un peu de temps et vous ne me verrez plus, puis encore un peu de temps et vous me verrez.”	16 A little while, and then you will not see me. And again a little while, and you will see me. For I am going to the Father.”
17 Plusieurs des disciples se demandaient: "Que nous dit-il là? Un peu de temps et vous ne me verrez plus, puis encore un peu de temps et vous me verrez. Et aussi: Je vais vers le Père.	17 Then some of his disciples said to one another: “What is this, that he is saying to us: ‘A little while, and you will not see me,’ and ‘Again a little while, and you will see me,’ and, ‘For I am going to the Father?’ ”
18 Qu’est-ce que ce: un peu de temps? Nous ne savons pas ce qu’il veut dire.”	18 And they said: “What is this, that he is saying, ‘A little while?’ We do not understand what he is saying.”
19 Jésus vit qu’ils voulaient le lui demander, et il leur dit: "Vous vous interrogez parce que j’ai dit: un peu de temps et vous ne me verrez plus, et un peu de temps encore et vous me verrez.	19 But Jesus realized that they wanted to question him, and so he said to them: “Are you inquiring among yourselves about this, that I said: ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me?’
20 En vérité, en vérité, je vous dis que vous serez dans le deuil et les larmes pendant que le monde se réjouira. Vous serez dans la tristesse, mais votre tristesse deviendra joie.	20 Amen, amen, I say to you, that you shall mourn and weep, but the world will rejoice. And you shall be greatly saddened, yet your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21 Quand une femme est sur le point de mettre au monde, elle est dans la tristesse car le moment de ses douleurs approche. Mais quand l’enfant est né, sa joie est telle qu’elle ne se rappelle plus son angoisse: pensez donc, un nouvel être est apparu dans le monde!	21 A woman, when she is giving birth, has sorrow, because her hour has arrived. But when she has given birth to the child, then she no longer remembers the difficulties, because of the joy: for a man has been born into the world.
22 “Vous aussi, vous voilà dans la tristesse, mais je vous verrai de nouveau et votre cœur sera dans la joie; et votre joie, personne ne vous l’enlèvera.	22 Therefore, you also, indeed, have sorrow now. But I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice. And no one will take away your joy from you.
23 Ce jour-là vous ne me demanderez plus rien car, je vous le dis et c’est vrai, tout ce que vous demanderez au Père en mon Nom, il vous le donnera.	23 And, in that day, you will not petition me for anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in my name, he will give it to you.
24 Jusqu’ici vous n’avez rien demandé en mon Nom: mais demandez et vous recevrez, et votre joie sera entière.	24 Until now, you have not requested anything in my name. Ask, and you shall receive, so that your joy may be full.
25 “Je vous ai dit tout cela avec des comparaisons. Mais l’heure vient où je ne donnerai plus des comparaisons, mais je vous parlerai clairement du Père.	25 I have spoken these things to you in proverbs. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in proverbs; instead, I will announce to you plainly from the Father.
26 Ce jour-là vous demanderez en mon Nom. Mais ne pensez pas que je devrai intervenir auprès du Père en votre faveur:	26 In that day, you shall ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father for you.
27 car le Père lui-même vous aime puisque vous m’aimez et que vous croyez que je suis sorti de Dieu.	27 For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and because you have believed that I went forth from God.
28 Je suis sorti du Père et je suis venu dans le monde: mais maintenant je quitte le monde et je vais vers le Père.”	28 I went forth from the Father, and I have come into the world. Next I am leaving the world, and I am going to the Father.”
29 À ce moment les disciples disent: "Tout de suite tu parles clairement, ce ne sont plus des comparaisons.	29 His disciples said to him: “Behold, now you are speaking plainly and not reciting a proverb.
30 Maintenant nous savons que tu sais tout et qu’il n’y a pas de questions à te poser. Car tu es sorti de Dieu; cela, nous le croyons!”	30 Now we know that you know all things, and that you have no need for anyone to question you. By this, we believe that you went forth from God.”
31 Jésus alors leur répond: "Vous dites que vous croyez?	31 Jesus answered them: “Do you believe now?
32 Pourtant l’heure est proche, et elle est déjà là, où vous allez vous disperser chacun de son côté et vous me laisserez seul. Mais je ne suis pas seul, car le Père est avec moi.	32 Behold, the hour is coming, and it has now arrived, when you will be scattered, each one on his own, and you will leave me behind, alone. And yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
33 Je vous ai parlé ainsi pour que vous ayez la paix en moi, car, dans le monde, vous connaîtrez la persécution. Mais courage: j’ai vaincu le monde!”	33 These things I have spoken to you, so that you may have peace in me. In the world, you will have difficulties. But have confidence: I have overcome the world.”
