1 Yahvé dit à Moïse:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
2 “Fais-toi deux trompettes d’argent. Ces trompettes d’argent martelé serviront pour convoquer la communauté et pour annoncer la levée du camp.	2 'Make yourself two trumpets; make them of beaten silver, so that you can use them for summoningthe community, and for sounding the order to break camp.
3 Quand on en sonnera, toute la communauté se réunira autour de toi, à l’entrée de la Tente de Réunion.	3 Whenever they are sounded, the whole community must gather round you, at the entrance to theTent of Meeting.
4 Si l’on ne sonne que d’une trompette, seulement les princes, les chefs des mille, en Israël, se rassembleront autour de toi.	4 But if only one trumpet is sounded, then only the leaders, the heads of Israel's thousands, mustgather round you.
5 Quand vous sonnerez très fort, ceux qui campent à l’est se mettront en marche.	5 'When the trumpet blast is accompanied by a battle cry, the encampments pitched to the east wil setout.
6 Quand vous sonnerez très fort pour la seconde fois, ceux qui campent au sud se mettront en marche. On sonnera très fort pour leur départ.	6 At the second blast accompanied by a battle cry, the encampments pitched to the south wil set out.For breaking camp, the trumpet blast wil be accompanied by a battle cry,
7 Vous sonnerez aussi pour rassembler la communauté, mais de façon plus discrète.	7 but for assembling the community the trumpets will be sounded without battle cry.
8 Ce sont les fils d’Aaron, les prêtres, qui sonneront les trompettes: ce sera là une loi perpétuelle pour vous et pour vos descendants.	8 The Aaronite priests wil sound the trumpets; this is a perpetual decree for you and your descendants.
9 Quand, dans votre pays, vous partirez en guerre contre un ennemi qui vous aura attaqués, vous sonnerez des trompettes avec force pour vous rappeler au souvenir de Yahvé votre Dieu, et vous serez délivrés de vos ennemis.	9 'When in your country you go to war against an enemy who is oppressing you, you will soundtrumpets with a battle cry, and Yahweh your God wil remember you, and you wil be delivered from yourenemies.
10 Dans vos jours de joie, pour vos fêtes et vos nouvelles lunes, vous sonnerez des trompettes en offrant vos holocaustes et vos sacrifices de communion: elles seront pour vous une façon de vous rappeler à votre Dieu: je suis Yahvé votre Dieu.”	10 At your festivals, solemnities and new-moon feasts, you will sound the trumpets over your burntofferings and communion sacrifices, so that they recal you to the remembrance of your God. I am Yahweh yourGod.'
11 La seconde année, au vingtième jour du deuxième mois, la nuée s’éleva au-dessus de la Demeure du Témoignage.	11 In the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, the cloud rose fromwhere the Dwel ing of the Testimony was,
12 Les Israélites reprirent donc leur marche. Ils quittèrent le désert du Sinaï, et la nuée s’arrêta dans le désert de Paran.	12 and the Israelites set out, in marching order, from the desert of Sinai. The cloud came to rest in thedesert of Paran.
13 C’est ainsi qu’ils firent leur première étape selon l’ordre que Yahvé avait donné à Moïse.	13 These were the men who set out in the vanguard, at Yahweh's order through Moses:
14 Le drapeau du camp des fils de Juda partit le premier, suivi des troupes. La troupe de Juda avait à sa tête Nachon, fils d’Aminadab.	14 first went the standard of the camp of the Judahites and their units, with Nahshon son ofAmminadab commanding that contingent;
15 La troupe de la tribu des fils d’Issacar avait à sa tête Nétanéel, fils de Souar.	15 Nethanel son of Zuar commanding the tribal contingent of the Issacharites;
16 La troupe de la tribu des fils de Zabulon avait à sa tête Éliab, fils de Hélon.	16 and Eliab son of Helon commanding the tribal contingent of the Zebulunites.
17 C’est alors qu’on démonta la Demeure et les fils de Guerchon partirent avec les fils de Mérari qui portaient la Demeure.	17 The Dwel ing was then dismantled and the Gershonites and Merarites set out, carrying the Dwel ing.
18 Le drapeau du camp de Ruben partit ensuite, suivi de ses troupes. La troupe avait à sa tête Élisour, fils de Chédéour.	18 Then came the standard of the camp of the Reubenites and their units, with Elizur son of Shedeurcommanding that contingent;
19 La troupe de la tribu des fils de Siméon avait à sa tête Cheloumiel, fils de Surichaddaï.	19 Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai commanding the tribal contingent of the Simeonites;
20 La troupe de la tribu des fils de Gad avait à sa tête Éliasaf, fils de Réouel.	20 and Eliasaph son of Reuel commanding the tribal contingent of the Gadites.
21 Les Kahatites partirent ensuite, emportant les objets sacrés (on devait avoir dressé la Tente avant leur arrivée).	21 Then came the Kohathites carrying the sanctuary (the Dwel ing was erected before they arrived).
22 Le drapeau du camp des fils d’Éphraïm partit ensuite, suivi de ses troupes. Élichama, fils d’Ammihoud, était à la tête de la troupe d’Éphraïm.	22 Then came the standard of the camp of the Ephraimites and their units, with Elishama son ofAmmihud commanding that contingent;
23 La troupe de la tribu des fils de Manassé était commandée par Gamliel, fils de Pedahsur.	23 Gamaliel son of Pedahzur commanding the tribal contingent of the Manassehites;
24 La troupe de la tribu des fils de Benjamin avait à sa tête Abidan, fils de Gidéoni.	24 and Abidan son of Gideoni commanding the tribal contingent of the Benjaminites.
25 Le drapeau du camp des fils de Dan partit le dernier de tous les camps, suivi de ses troupes. À la tête de sa troupe était Ahiézer, fils d’Amichaddaï.	25 Last of al , the rearguard of al the camps, came the standard of the camp of the Danites and theirunits, with Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai commanding that contingent;
26 La troupe de la tribu des fils d’Asher avait à sa tête Pagiel, fils d’Okran.	26 Pagiel son of Ochran commanding the tribal contingent of the Asherites;
27 La troupe des fils de Nephtali avait à sa tête Ahira, fils d’Énan.	27 and Ahira son of Enan commanding the tribal contingent of the Naphtalites.
28 Voilà, troupe par troupe, l’ordre de marche des Israélites lorsqu’ils partirent.	28 Such was the order of march for the Israelites, unit by unit. So they set out.
29 Moïse dit à Hobab, fils de Réouel le Madianite, son beau-père: “Nous partons pour le lieu que Yahvé a promis de nous donner: viens donc avec nous! Nous te traiterons bien, car Yahvé a promis de faire du bien à Israël.	29 Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, his father-in-law, 'We are setting out for the countryof which Yahweh has said: I shall give it to you. Come with us, and we wil treat you wel , for Yahweh haspromised good things for Israel.'
30 Hobab lui répondit: “Je n’irai pas avec vous, je vais retourner dans mon pays et dans ma famille.”	30 'I wil not come with you,' he replied, 'but shal go to my own country and kin.'
31 Moïse lui dit: “Ne nous quitte pas, je te prie! Tu connais les lieux où nous devrons camper dans le désert, tu seras notre œil!	31 'Do not leave us,' Moses said, 'for you know where we can camp in the desert, and so you will beour eyes.
32 Si tu viens avec nous, tu auras ta part de tout le bien que Yahvé nous fera.”	32 If you come with us, we shal share with you whatever blessings Yahweh gives us.'
33 Partis de la montagne de Yahvé, ils marchèrent trois jours, et durant ces trois jours de marche, l’Arche de l’Alliance de Yahvé s’avançait devant eux pour leur trouver un lieu de repos.	33 They set out from Yahweh's mountain and travel ed for three days, while the ark of the covenant ofYahweh preceded them on the three-day journey, searching out a place for them to halt.
34 La nuée de Yahvé était au-dessus d’eux pendant le jour, lorsqu’ils levaient le camp.	34 In the daytime, Yahweh's cloud was over them, once they had broken camp.
35 Lorsque l’Arche partait, Moïse disait: “Lève-toi, Yahvé! Que tes ennemis se dispersent, que ceux qui te haïssent fuient devant toi!”	35 Whenever the ark set out, Moses would say: Rise, Yahweh, may your enemies be scattered andthose who hate you flee at your approach!
36 Et lorsqu’elle s’arrêtait, il disait: “Reviens Yahvé, vers les myriades d’Israël.”	36 And when it halted, he would say: Come back, Yahweh, to the countless thousands of Israel!
