1 Josias avait 8 ans quand il monta sur le trône, il régna 31 ans à Jérusalem.	1 Josiah was eight years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for thirty-one years in Jerusalem.
2 Il fit ce qui est juste au regard de Yahvé et suivit les traces de David son ancêtre: il ne s’en écarta ni à droite, ni à gauche.	2 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and he walked in the ways of his father David. He did not turn away, neither to the right, nor to the left.
3 La huitième année de son règne, quand il était encore jeune, il commença à rechercher le Dieu de David, son ancêtre, et la douzième année il commença à purifier Juda et Jérusalem des Hauts-Lieux, des pieux sacrés et des idoles de bois ou de bronze.	3 Now in the eighth year of his reign, when he was still a boy, he began to seek the God of his father David. And in the twelfth year after he had begun to reign, he cleansed Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the sacred groves, and the idols, and the graven images.
4 On détruisit en sa présence les autels des Baals et les autels à parfum placés dessus. Il brisa les pieux sacrés et les statues de bois et de bronze, et les réduisit en poussière qu’il jeta sur les tombes de ceux qui leur avaient offert des sacrifices.	4 And in his sight, they destroyed the altars of the Baals, and they demolished the idols which had been set upon them. And then he cut down the sacred groves and crushed the graven images. And he scattered the fragments upon the tombs of those who had been accustomed to immolate to them.
5 Il brûla les ossements des prêtres sur leurs autels et purifia ainsi Juda et Jérusalem.	5 And after that, he burned the bones of the priests upon the altars of the idols. And so did he cleanse Judah and Jerusalem.
6 Dans les villes de Manassé, d’Éphraïm, de Siméon, et jusqu’en Nephtali, même dans les villes en ruines,	6 Then too, in the cities of Manasseh, and of Ephraim, and of Simeon, even to Naphtali, he overturned everything.
7 il abattit les autels, les pieux sacrés et les statues de bois; il les fit marteler et réduire en poussière. Il renversa tous les autels à parfum dans tout les pays, après quoi il rentra à Jérusalem.	7 And when he had destroyed the altars and the sacred groves, and had broken the idols to pieces, and when all the profane shrines had been demolished from the entire land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
8 En la dix-huitième année de son règne, il envoya Chafan, fils d’Asalyas, Maaséyas gouverneur de la ville, et Yoah fils de Yoahaz le porte-parole, pour purifier le pays et la Maison et pour réparer la Maison de Yahvé son Dieu.	8 And so, in the eighteenth year of his reign, having now cleansed the land and the temple of the Lord, he sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah, the ruler of the city, and Joah, the son of Joahaz, the historian, to repair the house of the Lord his God.
9 Ils allèrent trouver Hilkiyas le grand prêtre et lui donnèrent l’argent qu’on avait apporté à la Maison de Dieu: les lévites, gardiens de la Porte, l’avaient reçu de Manassé, d’Éphraïm, des autres tribus d’Israël, de tout Juda, de Benjamin, et des habitants de Jérusalem.	9 And they went to Hilkiah, the high priest. And having accepted from him the money which had been brought into the house of the Lord, and which the Levites and porters had gathered together from Manasseh, and Ephraim, and the entire remnant of Israel, and also from all of Judah, and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
10 On le confia à ceux qui s’occupaient des travaux et qui étaient chargés de la Maison de Yahvé, ils le donnèrent aux ouvriers qui faisaient le travail nécessaire pour reconstruire ou réparer la Maison de Yahvé.	10 they delivered it into the hands of those who were in charge of the workers in the house of the Lord, so that they might repair the temple, and restore whatever was weak.
11 On le donna aux charpentiers et aux maçons, on acheta des pierres de taille et des bois pour le chaînage et la charpente des bâtiments qu’avaient détruits les rois de Juda.	11 And they gave it to the artisans and the stoneworkers, so that they might buy stones from the quarries, and wood for the joints of the building and for the upper floors the houses, which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
12 Ces hommes travaillaient là en permanence et voici ceux qui avaient autorité sur eux: Yahat et Obadyas, lévites du clan de Mérari, Zékaryas et Méchoullam, contremaîtres du clan de Kahat, les lévites experts en instruments de musique,	12 And they did everything faithfully. Now the overseers of the workers were Jahath and Obadiah, from the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, from the sons of Kohath, who were supervising the work. All were Levites who knew how to play musical instruments.
13 les responsables des porteurs, les chefs des différents corps de métier, et enfin quelques lévites secrétaires, greffiers et portiers.	13 Truly, scribes and teachers, from among the Levites who were porters, were over those who were carrying burdens for various uses.
14 Donc, lorsqu’on vint prendre l’argent qui avait été offert à la Maison de Yahvé, il se trouva que le prêtre Hilkiyas avait trouvé le livre de la Loi de Yahvé donnée par Moïse.	14 And when they carried out the money that had been brought into the temple of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of the Lord by the hand of Moses.
15 Hilkiyas prit la parole et dit au secrétaire Chafan: “J’ai trouvé le livre de la Loi dans la Maison de Yahvé.” Et Hilkiyas remit le livre à Chafan.	15 And he said to Shaphan, the scribe: “I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord.” And he delivered it to him.
16 Chafan porta le livre au roi et lui fit ce rapport: “Tes serviteurs font bien le travail qu’on leur a confié.	16 Then he took the volume to the king, and he reported to him, saying: “Behold, everything that you entrusted to your servants is completed.
17 Ils ont versé l’argent qui se trouvait dans la Maison de Yahvé et ils l’ont remis aux responsables et aux ouvriers.”	17 They have melted together the silver that was found in the house of the Lord. And it has been given to the overseers of the artisans and craftsmen for various works.
18 Puis, s’adressant au roi, le secrétaire Chafan ajouta: “Le prêtre Hilkiyas m’a remis ce livre.” Et Chafan le lut devant le roi.	18 After this, Hilkiah the priest gave to me this book.” And when he had read it in the presence of the king,
19 En entendant les paroles de la Loi, le roi déchira ses habits,	19 and he had heard the words of the law, he tore his garments.
20 puis il donna cet ordre à Hilkiyas, à Ahikam fils de Chafan, à Abdon fils de Mika, au secrétaire Chafan et au ministre du roi, Asaya:	20 And he instructed Hilkiah, and Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Abdon, the son of Micah, and also Shaphan, the scribe, and Asaiah, the servant of the king, saying:
21 “Allez consulter Yahvé pour moi, pour ce qui reste d’Israël et de Juda, à propos des paroles du livre que l’on a trouvé. Grande doit être la colère de Yahvé contre nous, car nos pères n’ont pas obéi à la parole de Yahvé et n’ont rien fait de ce qui est écrit dans ce livre.”	21 “Go, and pray to the Lord for me, and for the remnant of Israel and Judah, concerning all the words of this book, which has been found. For the great fury of the Lord has rained down upon us, because our fathers did not keep the words of the Lord, to do all that has been written in this volume.”
22 Alors Hilkiyas et les hommes du roi allèrent trouver la prophétesse Houlda femme de Challoum, fils de Tokat, fils de Hasra, le gardien des vêtements; elle habitait à Jérusalem dans le nouveau quartier. Ils lui exposèrent les faits,	22 Therefore, Hilkiah, and those who had been sent with him by the king, went to Huldah, the prophetess, the wife of Shallum, the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, the keeper of the vestments. She was living in Jerusalem, in the second part. And they spoke to her the words which we explained above.
23 et elle leur répondit: “Voici ce que dit Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël: vous direz à l’homme qui vous a envoyés chez moi:	23 And she responded to them: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Tell the man who sent you to me:
24 Ainsi parle Yahvé: Sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants je fais venir un malheur, toutes les malédictions écrites dans le livre qu’on a lu devant le roi de Juda.	24 Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will lead in evils over this place, and over its inhabitants, with all the curses that have been written in this book, which they have read before the king of Judah.
25 Car ils m’ont abandonné, ils ont offert de l’encens à d’autres dieux et ils ont provoqué ma colère par tout ce qu’ils ont fait; ma colère s’est répandue sur ce lieu et elle ne s’éteindra pas.	25 For they have abandoned me, and they have sacrificed to foreign gods, so that they provoked me to wrath by all the works of their hands. Therefore, my fury will rain down upon this place, and it will not be extinguished.
26 Vous direz encore au roi de Juda qui vous envoie consulter Yahvé: Voici ce que dit Yahvé Dieu d’Israël: Tu as prêté l’oreille à ces paroles,	26 To the king of Judah, who sent you to petition before the Lord, so shall you speak: Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Since you listened to the words of this volume,
27 moi aussi je t’ai entendu - parole de Yahvé. Tu as été bouleversé, tu t’es humilié devant Dieu en entendant les paroles de ce livre contre ce lieu et contre ses habitants. Tu t’es humilié devant moi, tu as déchiré tes habits et tu as pleuré devant moi.	27 and your heart was softened, and you humbled yourself in the sight of God concerning these things which have been said against this place and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and since, revering my face, you have torn your garments, and have wept before me: I also have heeded you, says the Lord.
28 Voilà pourquoi je te réunirai à tes pères et tu reposeras en paix dans ta tombe. Tes yeux ne verront pas le malheur que je fais venir sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants.” Ils rapportèrent au roi cette réponse.	28 For now I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be brought into your sepulcher in peace. Neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will lead in, over this place and over its inhabitants.” And so they took back to the king all that she had said.
29 Le roi envoya chercher tous les anciens de Juda et de Jérusalem.	29 And he, calling together all those greater by birth of Judah and Jerusalem,
30 Avec tous les hommes de Juda et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, avec les prêtres et les lévites, avec tout le peuple du plus grand au plus petit, le roi monta à la Maison de Yahvé. Devant eux il fit la lecture de toutes les paroles du livre de l’alliance qu’on avait trouvé dans la Maison de Yahvé.	30 ascended to the house of the Lord, united with all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites, and all the people, from the least even to the greatest. And in their hearing, in the house of the Lord, the king read all the words of the volume.
31 Debout sur son estrade, le roi conclut l’alliance en présence de Yahvé: on s’engageait à marcher à la suite de Yahvé, à observer ses commandements, ses ordonnances et ses préceptes, de tout son cœur et de toute son âme, à mettre en pratique les paroles de l’alliance écrites dans ce livre.	31 And standing up at his tribunal, he struck a covenant before the Lord, so that he would walk after him, and would keep his precepts and testimonies and justifications, with his whole heart and with his whole soul, and so that he would do the things that were written in that volume, which he had read.
32 Il demanda instamment à tous ceux qui étaient à Jérusalem et en Benjamin de s’engager dans l’alliance de Dieu, le Dieu de leurs pères.	32 Also, concerning this, he bound by oath all who had been found in Jerusalem and Benjamin. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem acted in accord with the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers.
33 Josias enleva toutes les Ordures, de quelque pays que ce soit, qui étaient aux mains des Israélites, il obligea tous ceux qui étaient en Israël à servir Yahvé leur Dieu, et tant qu’il vécut, ils ne s’écartèrent plus de Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères.	33 Therefore, Josiah took away all the abominations from all the regions of the sons of Israel. And he caused all who were remaining in Israel to serve the Lord their God. During all his days, they did not withdraw from the Lord, the God of their fathers.
