1 La septième année, Yoyada fit un acte courageux. Il prit les chefs de cent: Azarias fils de Yéroham, Ismaël fils de Yohanan, Azarias fils d’Obed, Maaséyas fils d’Adadyas, Élichafat fils de Zikri, et il conclut un pacte avec eux.	1 Then in the seventh year, Jehoiada having been strengthened, he took the centurions, namely, Azariah, the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael, the son of Jehohanan, and also Azariah, the son of Obed, and Maaseiah, the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat, the son of Zichri, and he formed a pact with them.
2 Ils parcoururent Juda et rassemblèrent les lévites de toutes les villes de Juda ainsi que les chefs de famille d’Israël et ils vinrent à Jérusalem.	2 And traveling through Judah, they gathered together the Levites from all of the cities of Judah, and the leaders of the families of Israel, and they went to Jerusalem.
3 Toute l’assemblée conclut une alliance avec le roi dans la Maison de Dieu et Yoyada leur dit: “Voici le fils du roi, qu’il règne comme Yahvé l’a dit au sujet des fils de David!	3 Then the entire multitude formed a pact with the king, in the house of God. And Jehoiada said to them: “Behold, the son of the king shall reign, just as the Lord has said concerning the sons of David.
4 Voici ce que vous ferez: un tiers d’entre vous, prêtres et lévites qui prenez votre service le jour du sabbat, assurera la garde des entrées;	4 Therefore, this is the word that you shall do:
5 un tiers sera dans le palais royal et un dernier tiers à la Porte-du-Fondement, tandis que tout le peuple sera dans les cours de la Maison de Yahvé.	5 One third part of you who arrive on the Sabbath, priests, and Levites, and porters, shall be at the gates. Truly, one third part shall be at the house of the king. And one third shall be at the gate which is called the Foundation. Yet truly, let all the remainder of the common people be in the courts of the house of the Lord.
6 Seuls les prêtres et les lévites de service entreront dans la Maison de Yahvé: eux seuls sont consacrés et peuvent entrer; mais tout le peuple se pliera aux ordres de Yahvé.	6 Let no one else enter into the house of the Lord, except the priests, and those from the Levites who are ministering. These alone may enter, for they have been sanctified. And let all the remainder of the common people observe the watches of the Lord.
7 Les lévites entoureront le roi les armes à la main, et si quelqu’un veut pénétrer dans la Maison, il sera mis à mort. Vous accompagnerez le roi dans tous ses déplacements.”	7 Then let the Levites encircle the king, each one having his weapons. And if anyone else will have entered into the temple, let him be slain. And may they be with the king, both entering and departing.”
8 Les lévites et tous les Judéens firent tout ce que le prêtre Yoyada avait ordonné. Chacun prit ses hommes, ceux qui prennent leur service le jour du sabbat et ceux qui le terminent le jour du sabbat: le prêtre Yoyada ne donna congé à aucun des groupes.	8 Then the Levites, and all of Judah, acted in accord with all that the high priest Jehoiada had instructed. And each of them took the men who were under him, and who were arriving by the course of the Sabbath, with those who had fulfilled the Sabbath and who were about to depart. For indeed the high priest Jehoiada had not permitted the companies to depart, which were accustomed to replace one another each week.
9 Le prêtre Yoyada donna aux chefs de cent les lances, les boucliers ronds et les boucliers du roi David qui étaient dans la Maison de Dieu.	9 And Jehoiada, the priest, gave to the centurions the lances and round shields and crescent shields of king David, which he had dedicated in the house of the Lord.
10 Il mit tout le monde à son poste, chacun son javelot dans la main, depuis le côté sud de la Maison jusqu’au côté nord de la Maison, devant l’autel et devant la Maison, de manière à bien entourer le roi.	10 And he positioned all the people, holding short swords, from the right part of the temple to the left part of the temple, before the altar and the temple, all around the king.
11 On fit alors sortir le fils du roi et on lui posa sur la tête le diadème et le témoignage: on le proclama roi. Yoyada et ses fils le consacrèrent et l’on cria: “Vive le roi!”	11 And they led out the son of the king. And they imposed the diadem on him, and the testimony. And they gave him the law to hold in his hand. And they appointed him as king. Also, the high priest Jehoiada and his sons anointed him. And they prayed for him, and said, “May the king live!”
12 Quand Athalie entendit les cris du peuple qui accourait et acclamait le roi, elle se rendit au Temple au-devant du peuple.	12 And when Athaliah had heard it, specifically the sound of running and the praising of the king, she entered to the people in the temple of the Lord.
13 Elle regarda et vit le roi debout près de la colonne à l’entrée, les chefs et les joueurs de trompette auprès du roi, tout le peuple sonnant joyeusement des trompettes et les chantres avec leurs instruments de musique qui dirigeaient les acclamations. Athalie déchira ses vêtements en s’écriant: “Trahison! Trahison!”	13 And when she had seen the king standing upon the step at the entrance, and the leaders and companies around him, and all the people of the land rejoicing, and sounding the trumpets, and playing on instruments of various kinds, and the voice of those who were praising, she tore her garments, and she said: “Treason! Treason!”
14 Le prêtre Yoyada donna des ordres aux chefs de cent qui étaient à la tête de l’armée: “Faites-la sortir hors des rangs, leur dit-il, et si quelqu’un la suit, mettez-le à mort par l’épée!” Car le prêtre avait dit: “Vous ne la tuerez pas dans la Maison de Yahvé.”	14 Then the high priest Jehoiada, going out to the centurions and to the leaders of the army, said to them: “Lead her away, beyond the borders of the temple. And let her be put to death outside, with the sword.” And the priest instructed that she should not be killed in the house of the Lord.
15 On la saisit et on l’entraîna par l’entrée de la Porte-des-Chevaux jusqu’au palais royal, et là on la mit à mort.	15 And they laid hands on her neck. And when she had entered the gate for the horses at the king’s house, they put her to death there.
16 Yoyada fit un pacte entre Yahvé, tout le peuple et le roi: on s’engageait à être le peuple de Yahvé.	16 Then Jehoiada formed a covenant between himself and the entire people, and the king, so that they would be the people of the Lord.
17 On se rendit à la Maison de Baal et on la détruisit, puis l’on brisa autels et images. Quant à Mattan, le prêtre de Baal, on le tua devant les autels.	17 And so, all the people entered into the house of Baal, and they destroyed it. And they broke apart his altars and idols. Also, they put to death Mattan, the priest of Baal, before the altars.
18 Yoyada plaça des postes de surveillance dans la Maison de Yahvé qu’il confia aux prêtres-lévites, car David leur avait donné comme part la Maison de Yahvé. Ils y offraient des holocaustes à Yahvé, comme il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse, dans la joie et les chants, selon les ordres de David.	18 Then Jehoiada appointed overseers in the house of the Lord, under the hands of the priests and Levites, whom David had distributed to the house of the Lord so that they might offer holocausts to the Lord, just as it was written in the law of Moses, with gladness and singing, in accord with the disposition of David.
19 Il plaça des portiers aux portes de la Maison de Yahvé, pour qu’aucune personne impure pour quelque raison que ce soit, n’y entre.	19 Also, he appointed porters at the gates of the house of the Lord, so that whoever was unclean for any reason would not enter.
20 Il prit les chefs de cent, les notables, ceux qui avaient une responsabilité publique et tout le peuple du pays, il fit descendre le roi depuis la Maison de Yahvé, et passant par la Porte-Haute, on gagna le palais royal. Là on fit asseoir le roi sur le trône royal,	20 And he took the centurions, and the most valiant men, and the leaders of the people, and all the common people of the land, and they set out to descend to the king, from the house of the Lord, and to enter through the middle of the upper gate, to the house of the king. And they placed him on the royal throne.
21 et tout le peuple du pays se réjouit. La ville était paisible, Athalie avait été mise à mort par l’épée.	21 And all the people of the land were rejoicing, and the city was quieted. But Athaliah was slain with the sword.
