1 Soixante-dix fils d’Akab vivaient à Samarie. Jéhu écrivit des lettres qu’il envoya à Samarie. Il faisait dire aux chefs de la ville, aux anciens et à ceux qui élevaient les fils d’Akab:	1 Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And so Jehu wrote letters, and he sent to Samaria, to the nobles of the city, and to those greater by birth, and to those who had raised Ahab’s sons, saying:
2 “Vous avez avec vous les fils de votre maître, des chars et des chevaux; votre ville est fortifiée et vous avez des armes. Lorsque vous recevrez cette lettre,	2 “Immediately when you receive these letters, you who have your lord’s sons, and chariots, and horses, and reinforced cities, and weapons,
3 choisissez le meilleur et le plus valable des fils de votre maître, placez-le sur le trône de son père et préparez-vous à combattre pour la maison de votre maître.”	3 choose him who is better and who pleases you from among the sons of your lord, and set him on the throne of his father, and fight for the house of your lord.”
4 Ils furent tous terrifiés; ils se dirent: “Si les deux rois n’ont pas été capables de lui résister, que dire de nous?”	4 But they were vehemently afraid, and they said: “Behold, two kings were not able to stand before him. So how will we be able to withstand him?”
5 Le maître du palais, le gouverneur de la ville, les anciens et ceux qui élevaient les fils du roi donnèrent donc cette réponse à Jéhu: “Nous sommes tes serviteurs et nous ferons tout ce que tu nous diras. Nous ne proclamerons pas de roi. Fais ce qui te semble bon.”	5 Therefore, those who were in charge of the house, and the prefects of the city, and those greater by birth, and those who raised the sons, sent to Jehu, saying: “We are your servants. Whatever you will order, we will do. But we will not appoint a king for ourselves. Do whatever pleases you.”
6 Jéhu leur écrivit donc une seconde lettre dans laquelle il disait ceci: “Si vous êtes pour moi et si vous êtes prêts à me servir, prenez les têtes des fils de votre maître et venez me trouver demain à la même heure à Yizréel.” Les fils du roi étaient 70 et ils étaient élevés par les notables de la ville.	6 Then he again wrote letters to them a second time, saying: “If you are mine, and if you obey me, take the heads of the sons of your lord, and come to me at Jezreel at this same hour tomorrow.” Now the sons of the king, being seventy men, were being raised with the nobles of the city.
7 Lorsque ceux-ci reçurent la lettre, ils prirent les fils du roi, égorgèrent tous les 70; ils mirent les têtes dans des paniers et les envoyèrent à Yizréel.	7 And when the letters had arrived to them, they took the sons of the king, and they killed the seventy men. And they placed their heads in baskets, and they sent these to him at Jezreel.
8 Un messager vint avertir Jéhu: “On vient d’apporter les têtes des fils du roi!” Jéhu répondit: “Placez-les en deux tas à l’entrée de la porte de la ville, jusqu’au matin.”	8 Then a messenger arrived and reported to him, saying, “They have brought the heads of the king’s sons.” And he responded, “Place them in two piles, beside the entrance of the gate, until morning.”
9 Au matin Jéhu sortit et se présenta devant le peuple; il leur dit: “Vous êtes des justes, alors que moi j’ai conspiré contre mon seigneur et je l’ai tué… Mais au fait, tous ceux-ci, qui les a frappés?	9 And when it had become light, he went out. And standing there, he said to all the people: “You are just. If I have conspired against my lord, and if I have killed him, who has struck down all of these?
10 Voyez qu’aucune des paroles prononcées par Yahvé contre la maison d’Akab n’est restée sans effet. Yahvé a accompli tout ce qu’il avait annoncé par la voix de son serviteur Élie.”	10 Now therefore, see that none of the words of the Lord has fallen to the ground, which the Lord spoke over the house of Ahab, and that the Lord has done what he spoke by the hand of his servant Elijah.”
11 Jéhu frappa tous ceux qui restaient en vie de la maison d’Akab à Yizréel: ses conseillers, ses serviteurs, ses prêtres; il ne laissa personne en vie.	11 And so, Jehu struck down all who had remained from the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his nobles and friends and priests, until no remnant of them was left behind.
12 Puis Jéhu se mit en route pour Samarie. Comme il arrivait à Beth-Éqed-Des-Pasteurs,	12 And he rose up and went to Samaria. And when he had arrived at the shepherds’ cabin along the way,
13 il rencontra les frères d’Okozias, roi de Juda. Il leur demanda: “Qui êtes-vous?” Ils répondirent: “Nous sommes les frères d’Okozias et nous descendons pour saluer les fils du roi et les fils de la reine.”	13 he found the brothers of Ahaziah, the king of Judah, and he said to them, “Who are you?” And they responded, “We are the brothers of Ahaziah, and we are going down to greet the sons of the king, and the sons of the queen.”
14 Alors Jéhu dit: “Arrêtez-les!” On les fit prisonniers et on les égorgea à la Citerne de Beth-Éqed. Ils étaient 42 et Jéhu n’en laissa pas un seul en vie.	14 And he said, “Take them alive.” And when they had taken them alive, they cut their throats at the cistern beside the cabin, forty-two men. And he did not leave any of them behind.
15 Il partit de là et rencontra Yonadab, fils de Rékab qui venait au-devant de lui. Il le salua et lui dit: “Seras-tu loyal envers moi comme je veux l’être avec toi?” Yonadab répondit: “Oui.” “Si c’est oui, dit-il, donne-moi la main.” Yonadab lui donna la main et Jéhu le fit monter à côté de lui sur son char.	15 And when he had gone away from there, he found Jehonadab, the son of Rechab, coming to meet him, and he blessed him. And he said to him, “Is your heart upright, just as my heart is with your heart?” And Jehonadab said, “It is.” Then he said, “If it is, then give me your hand.” He gave his hand to him. And so he lifted him up to himself in the chariot.
16 Il l’emmena sur son char en lui disant: “Viens avec moi et tu verras mon zèle pour Yahvé.”	16 And he said to him, “Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord.” And he gave him a place in his chariot.
17 Une fois entré à Samarie, Jéhu frappa tous ceux qui restaient de la famille d’Akab à Samarie; il les tua tous, selon la parole que Yahvé avait dite à Élie.	17 And he led him into Samaria. And he struck down all who were left behind of Ahab in Samaria, even to the last one, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he spoke through Elijah.
18 Ensuite Jéhu rassembla tout le peuple. Il fit cette proclamation: “Akab n’a servi qu’un peu le Baal, Jéhu le servira bien mieux.	18 Then Jehu gathered together the entire people. And he said to them: “Ahab worshipped Baal a little, but I will worship him even more.
19 Rassemblez donc autour de moi tous les prophètes du Baal, tous ceux qui sont à son service, tous ses prêtres: que personne ne manque, car je dois offrir un grand sacrifice au Baal. Ceux qui ne viendront pas seront mis à mort.” C’était une ruse, Jéhu voulait ainsi mettre à mort tous ceux qui servaient le Baal.	19 Now therefore, summon to me all the prophets of Baal, and all his servants, and all his priests. Let no one be permitted not to come, for great is the sacrifice from me to Baal. Whoever will fail to come, he shall not live.” Now Jehu was doing this treacherously, so that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
20 Jéhu ajouta: “Convoquez une assemblée solennelle en l’honneur du Baal.” Ils la convoquèrent.	20 And he said: “Sanctify a day of solemnity for Baal.” And he summoned
21 Jéhu envoya des messagers dans tout Israël, et tous les serviteurs du Baal se rassemblèrent; il n’en manqua pas un. Ils entrèrent dans la Maison du Baal et la remplirent de bout en bout.	21 and sent into all the borders of Israel. And all the servants of Baal came. There was left behind not even one who did not arrive. And they entered into the temple of Baal. And the house of Baal was filled, all the way from end to end.
22 Jéhu avait dit à l’homme chargé du vestiaire: “Sors les vêtements pour tous les serviteurs de Baal”, et l’autre avait sorti les vêtements.	22 And he said to those who were over the vestments, “Bring forth vestments for all the servants of Baal.” And they brought forth vestments for them.
23 Et lorsque Jéhu arriva à la maison de Baal avec Yonadab fils de Rékab, il dit aux serviteurs de Baal: “Cherchez et assurez-vous qu’il n’y a ici aucun serviteur de Yahvé, mais seulement des serviteurs de Baal.”	23 And Jehu, upon entering the temple of Baal with Jehonadab, the son of Rechab, said to the worshippers of Baal, “Inquire and see that there is no one with you from the servants of the Lord, but only from the servants of Baal.”
24 Ensuite il entra pour offrir les sacrifices et les holocaustes. Jéhu avait posté dehors 80 hommes; il leur avait dit: “Je vais livrer des hommes entre vos mains, celui d’entre vous qui en laissera échapper un seul, paiera de sa propre vie.”	24 Then they entered, so that they might offer victims and holocausts. But Jehu had prepared for himself eighty men outside. And he had said to them, “If anyone escapes from among these men, whom I have led into your hands, your life will take the place of his life.”
25 Aussitôt l’holocauste terminé, Jéhu dit aux gardes et aux officiers: “Entrez, frappez-les et que pas un ne sorte.” Les gardes et les officiers les frappèrent de leur épée; ils jetaient dehors les cadavres tandis qu’ils s’avançaient jusqu’au sanctuaire du temple du Baal.	25 Then it happened that, when the holocaust had been completed, Jehu ordered his soldiers and officers, saying: “Enter and strike them down. Let no one escape.” And the soldiers and officers struck them down with the edge of the sword, and they cast them out. And they went into the city of the temple of Baal,
26 Ils arrachèrent le pieu sacré de la Maison du Baal et le brûlèrent,	26 and they took away the statue from the shine of Baal, and they burned it up
27 puis ils démolirent l’autel du Baal et ils en firent un fumier qui existe encore aujourd’hui.	27 and crushed it. They also tore down the temple of Baal, and they made it into a latrine, even to this day.
28 C’est ainsi que Jéhu fit disparaître le culte du Baal en Israël.	28 And thus did Jehu wipe away Baal from Israel.
29 Cependant Jéhu ne se détourna pas des péchés dans lesquels Jéroboam fils de Nabat avait entraîné Israël: les veaux d’or établis à Béthel et à Dan.	29 Yet truly, he did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin. Neither did he forsake the golden calves, which were in Bethel and Dan.
30 Yahvé dit à Jéhu: “Parce que tu as bien agi, que tu as fait ce qui est juste à mes yeux, parce que tu as accompli contre la maison d’Akab tout ce que j’avais décidé, tes fils régneront sur Israël jusqu’à la quatrième génération.”	30 Then the Lord said to Jehu: “Since you have diligently carried out what was right and pleasing in my eyes, and since you have accomplished, against the house of Ahab, all that was in my heart, your sons shall sit upon the throne of Israel, even to the fourth generation.”
31 Mais Jéhu ne s’appliqua pas à marcher de tout son cœur selon la Loi de Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël. Il ne se détourna pas des péchés dans lesquels Jéroboam avait entraîné Israël.	31 But Jehu did not take care, so that he might walk in the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. For he did not withdraw from the sins of Jeroboam, who had caused Israel to sin.
32 En ces jours-là, Yahvé commença à réduire le territoire d’Israël: Hazaël battit les Israélites sur tout le territoire	32 In those days, the Lord began to be weary of Israel. And Hazael struck them throughout all the parts of Israel,
33 à l’est du Jourdain, tout le pays de Galaad, le pays de Gad, de Ruben et de Manassé, depuis Aroër qui est au-dessus du torrent d’Arnon: en un mot, le Galaad et le Bashan.	33 from the Jordan opposite the eastern region, in all the land of Gilead, and Gad, and Reuben, and Manasseh, from Aroer, which is above the torrent Arnon, in both Gilead and Bashan.
34 Le reste des actions de Jéhu, tout ce qu’il a fait et toute sa bravoure, cela n’est-il pas écrit au Livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël?	34 But the rest of the words of Jehu, and all that he did, and his strength, have these not been written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
35 Jéhu se coucha avec ses pères et on l’enterra à Samarie; Yoacaz, son fils, régna à sa place.	35 And Jehu slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz, his son, reigned in his place.
36 Jéhu avait régné sur Israël à Samarie pendant 28 ans.	36 Now the days during which Jehu reigned over Israel, in Samaria, were twenty-eight years.
