1 (E disse alli suoi discepoli:) Non si turbi il cuore vostro. Voi credete in Dio, e anche in me credete.	1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.
2 Nella casa del mio Padre sono molte mansioni; e se io vi avessi meno detto a voi; imperò che io vado apparecchiarvi il luogo.	2 In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
3 E andato ch' io vi sarò, e arovvi apparecchiato il luogo, un' altra volta tornarò a voi, e riceverò voi medesimi a me, acciò che dove sono voi siate.	3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.
4 E dove io vo, voi il sapete, e sapete la via.	4 Where (I) am going you know the way."
5 Disse a lui Tomaso: Signore, noi non sappiamo dove tu vadi; come possemo sapere la via?	5 Thomas said to him, "Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?"
6 Disse a lui Iesù: io sono la via, verità e vita; e niuno va al Padre, se non per me.	6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
7 Se voi conosceste me, certo voi conoscereste il Padre mio; e oggi mai lo conoscerete, e avetelo veduto.	7 If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him."
8 Disse a lui Filippo : Signore mostraci il Padre, e basta a noi.	8 Philip said to him, "Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us."
9 Disse a lui Iesù: tanto tempo sono stato con voi, e non mi avete conosciuto? Filippo, chi vede me, vede il Padre mio. Or come di' tu: mostraci il Padre?	9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
10 Non credete, ch' io sia nel Padre, e il Padre in me? E le parole ch' io parlo, non parlo da me. Ma il Padre, ch' è in me, egli fa le opere.	10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
11 Or non credete voi, ch' io sia nel Padre, e il Padre in me?	11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves.
12 E se non per altro credete, credetelo per le opere. In verità, in verità vi dico: chi crede in me farà le opere che faccio io, e maggiori di queste farete; imperò ch' io vo al Padre.	12 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 E ciò che voi addimandarete al Padre nel nome mio, (avrete e fiavi fatto) io farò, acciò che il Padre sia glorificato nel Figliuolo.	13 And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 Ciò che voi addimanderete nel mio nome, io farò.	14 If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.
15 Se voi mi amate, osservate li miei comandamenti.	15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
16 E io pregarò il Padre, ch' egli vi darà lo Spirito Paraclito, acciò che sia con voi in eterno;	16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always,
17 lo spirito della verità, il quale il mondo non può comprendere, imperò che nollo vede e nollo sa; ma voi lo conoscerete, imperò ch' egli starà appresso a voi, e sarà in voi.	17 the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you.
18 Non vi lasciarò orfani; verrò da voi.	18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
19 Ancora uno poco, chè già il mondo non mi vede. Ma voi mi vedete, imperò ch' io vivo, e voi viverete.	19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live.
20 In quello di conoscerete ch' io sono nel Padre mio, e voi siete in me, e io in voi.	20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you.
21 E chiunque osserva li miei comandamenti, quello mi ama; e chi mi ama. sarà amato dal Padre mio; e io amarò lui, e a lui manifestarò me medesimo.	21 Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him."
22 Dissegli Iuda, non quello di Scariote: Signore, che cosa è questa, imperò che sei per manifestare te medesimo a noi, e non al mondo?	22 Judas, not the Iscariot, said to him, "Master, (then) what happened that you will reveal yourself to us and not to the world?"
23 Rispose Iesù, e dissegli: chi mi ama, osservarà la mia parola, e il Padre mio amarà lui, e a lui andaremo, e mansione a lui faremo.	23 Jesus answered and said to him, "Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.
24 Chi non mi ama, non osserva le mie parole. E la parola che udiste, non è mia, ma è del Padre che mi mandò.	24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; yet the word you hear is not mine but that of the Father who sent me.
25 Queste cose ho io detto a voi, stando ancora con voi.	25 "I have told you this while I am with you.
26 Ma lo Spirito Paraclito (consolatore) che vi mandarà il Padre nel nome mio, egli vi insegnerà ogni cosa, e dimostraravvi di tutte le cose che io ho detto a voi.	26 The Advocate, the holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name--he will teach you everything and remind you of all that (I) told you.
27 Io vi lascio [la pace], la mia pace vi do; e non ve la do, come ve la dà il mondo. Non si turbi il cuore vostro, nè non si spaventi.	27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
28 Voi avete udito che dissi: io vo, e verrò a voi. Se voi mi amaste, voi godereste, imperò ch' io vo al Padre; imperò che il Padre è maggiore di me.	28 You heard me tell you, 'I am going away and I will come back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.
29 Ora io il dico a voi, inanzi che sia fatto, sì che quando sia fatto, voi crediate.	29 And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe.
30 Io non vi parlerò oggi mai molte cose; imperò che venne il principe di questo mondo, e in me non ha cosa alcuna.	30 I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me,
31 Ma a ciò che il mondo conosca che io amo il Padre, e così come il Padre (mio) mi comandò, così faccio. Levatevi, e partemoci di qua.	31 but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me. Get up, let us go.
