Isaia 36

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E avvenne nel XIIII anno (del regno) dello re Ezechia, che Sennacherib, re delli Assiri, salìo sopra tutte le cittadi di Giuda armate, e pigliolle.	1 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria advanced on al the fortified townsof Judah and captured them.
2 E mandò lo re delli Assiri Rabsace di Lachis in Ierusalem allo re Ezechia con grave mano, e stette nel condotto dell' acqua della piscina di sopra, nella via del campo del tintore.	2 From Lachish the king of Assyria sent the cupbearer-in-chief with a large force to King Hezekiah inJerusalem. The cupbearer-in-chief took up position near the conduit of the upper pool on the road to the Ful er'sField.
3 E uscio fuori a lui Eliacim figliuolo di Elcia, lo quale era sopra la casa, e (uno altro che avea nome) Sobna il quale era scrivano, e (uno che aveva nome) Ioae figliuolo di Asaf ch' era cancelliero dello re.	3 The master of the palace, Eliakim son of Hilkiah, Shebna the secretary and the herald Joah son ofAsaph went out to him.
4 E disse loro Rabsace: dite a Ezechia: questo dice lo grande re delli Assiri: quale è questa fidanza, nella quale tu ti fidi?	4 The cupbearer-in-chief said to them, 'Say to Hezekiah, "The great king, the king of Assyria, says this:What makes you so confident?
5 O per che, o per quale consiglio, tu disponi d' essere ribello? sopra cui hai fidanza, però che tu ti partisti da me?	5 Do you think empty words are as good as strategy and military strength? Who are you relying on, todare to rebel against me?
6 Ecco, tu ti confidi nel bastone della canna il quale è spezzato, e questo è Egitto; al quale se l'uomo sarà sottoposto (ovvero ha peccato), entrerà nella sua mano, e foreralla; così Faraone re di Egitto ha fatto a tutti quelli li quali hanno fidanza (e speranza) in lui.	6 There you are, relying on that broken reed, Egypt, which pricks and pierces the hand of the person wholeans on it. That is what Pharaoh king of Egypt is like to al who rely on him.
7 E se tu risponderai a me: noi ci confidiamo nel nostro Signore Iddio; or non è quello, dello quale Ezechia tolse via li luoghi alti e li altari, e disse a Giuda e a Ierusalem: or adorarete voi dinanzi a questo altare?	7 You may say to me: We rely on Yahweh our God. But haven't his high places and altars beensuppressed by Hezekiah, who told Judah and Jerusalem: This is the altar before which you must worship?
8 Adunque dà te al mio signore re delli Assiri, e a te darò due milia cavalli, e tu da te medesimo non potrai fornire li cavalcatori.	8 Very wel , then, make a wager with my lord the king of Assyria: I wil give you two thousand horses ifyou can find horsemen to ride them.
9 E come sosterrai la faccia del giudicio di uno luogo de' servi minori del mio signore? E se tu ti confidi in Egitto, e nelli suoi carri, e nelli suoi cavalieri,	9 How could you repulse a single one of the least of my master's soldiers? And yet you have relied onEgypt for chariots and horsemen.
10 e ora credi che io senza il Signore sia salito a questa terra acciò ch' io la disperda? Il Signore mi disse: ascendi a questa terra, e disperdila.	10 And lastly, have I marched on this country to lay it waste without warrant from Yahweh? Yahwehhimself said to me: March on this country and lay it waste."
11 E disse Eliacim e Sobna e Ioae a Rabsace: parla alli tuoi servi colla lingua di Siria, però che noi intendiamo quella; non parlare a noi in lingua giudaica, però che il popolo che sta in su le mura ci de' intendere.	11 Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to the cupbearer-in-chief, 'Please speak to your servants in Aramaic,for we understand it; do not speak to us in the Judaean language within earshot of the people on the ramparts.'
12 E Rapsace disse a loro: or mandommi lo mio signore, ch' io dovessi parlare al tuo signore e a te tutte queste parole, e non più presto alli uomini i quali seggono nel muro, accio che loro manuchino lo loro sterco, e beano la (loro) orina delli loro piedi con voi?	12 But the cupbearer-in-chief said, 'Do you think my lord sent me here to say these things to your masteror to you? On the contrary, it was to the people sitting on the ramparts who, like you, are doomed to eat theirown dung and drink their own urine.'
13 E Rabsace stette fermo, e gridò con grande voce in lingua giudaica, e disse: udite le parole del grande re delii Assirii.	13 The cupbearer-in-chief then drew himself up and shouted loudly in the Judaean language, 'Listen tothe words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
14 Questo dice lo signore: non vi seduca Ezechia, però che non vi potrà scampare (nè deliberare).	14 The king says this, "Do not let Hezekiah delude you! He wil be powerless to save you.
15 E non vi dia Ezechia fidanza del regno dicendo: lo Signore deliberante liberarà noi, non sarà data questa città nelle mani dello re delli Assirii.	15 Do not let Hezekiah persuade you to rely on Yahweh by saying: Yahweh is sure to save us; this citywil not fal into the king of Assyria's clutches.
16 Non vogliate udire Ezechia; però che questo dice lo re delli Assirii: fate meco la benedizione, e uscite fuori a me, e ciascuno manuchi la sua vigna e li suoi fichi, e ciascuno beva l'acqua della sua cisterna,	16 Do not listen to Hezekiah, for the king of Assyria says this: Make peace with me,
17 infino a tanto ch' io vegna e tolga voi, e portivi alla terra la quale voi usarete come vostra, [terra] di grano e di vino, e terra di pani e di vigne,	17 surrender to me, and every one of you wil be free to eat the fruit of his own vine and of his own figtree and to drink the water of his own storage-wel until I come and take you away to a country like your own, aland of corn and good wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
18 acciò che Ezechia non vi conturbi, dicendo: lo Signore liberarà noi. Or liberarono li dii delle genti, ciascuno la terra loro, delle mani dello re re delli Assirii?	18 Do not let Hezekiah delude you by saying: Yahweh will save us. Has any god of any nation been ableto save his country from the king of Assyria's clutches?
19 Or dove è lo iddio di Emat e di Arfad? dove è lo iddio di Sefarvaim? or ebbono tanta potenza, che loro liberassono Samaria della mia mano?	19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Where are thenational gods of Samaria? Did they save Samaria from my clutches?
20 Quale è quello iddio che abbia liberata la sua terra della mia mano, acciò che il Signore liberi Ierusalem della mia mano?	20 Of al the national gods, which ones have saved their countries from my clutches, that Yahweh shouldbe able to save Jerusalem from my clutches?" '
21 E loro tacerono, e non gli rispuosono una parola; però che lo re aveva fatto uno comandamento, dicendo: non li rispondete.	21 They, however, kept quiet and said nothing in reply, since the king had given the order, 'You are not toanswer him.'
22 Ed Eliacim figliuolo di Elcia, il quale era maestro della casa, e Sobna scriba (cioè ch' era scrivano dello re) e Ioae figliuolo di Asaf, ch' era cancelliere, entrarono a Ezechia re colle vestimenta stracciate, e dissero le parole le quali avea detto Rabsace.	22 The master of the palace, Eliakim son of Hilkiah, Shebna the secretary and the herald Joah son ofAsaph, with their clothes torn, went to Hezekiah and reported what the cupbearer-in-chief had said.
